I said this to a friend the other day ill repost it.

Why does in revelations God says he can blot out names from the book of life if as OSAS says they are saved forever.

Revelation 3New International Version (NIV)

To the Church in Sardis
3 “To the angel[a] of the church in Sardis write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Stren; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5 The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels. 6 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Revelation 3:5New King James Version (NKJV)

5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
He that overcometh.—The promise is repeated to all who overcome; all, not who have never fallen, or failed, but who conquer, shall be clothed in glistening white raiment.

MacLaren's Expositions

But notice that the main thing about it is that this lustrous purity of a perfected character is declared to be the direct outcome of the character, that was made by effort and struggle carried on in faith here upon earth.

you can think that God is blind. I do not. He remembers their sin no more, He does not forget them.

He sees the righteousness of Christ, but He is fully aware of what lies before,
Brother...you must be dense....to remember something no more is to forget it forever....

Yes, and He also pointed out that in John 15:2 ... Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away

Jesus said "In ME" so He is definitely speaking about those that have been translated from darkness into the Kingdom of God's Dear Son speaking of those that are In Christ (see Colossians 1:13)

John 15 is about fruit bearing - not for eternal destination. We are sealed in Christ by the Holy Spirit.

The Greek word in John 15:2 for "takes away" means to "lift up" or "take up".

Here is Jesus using the same Greek word.

Matthew 16:24 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

Matthew 9:6 (KJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

What happens to unfruitful branches? Jesus said the branches that don’t bear fruit are “lifted up” (Jn 15:2). They are not cut off – that is a bad translation that would’ve made no sense to a Mediterranean listener! A viticulturalist would never throw away a branch for that would be like amputating part of the vine.

Unfruitful branches are lifted out of the dirt and re-dressed so they can be nourished by the sun. Sticking with that metaphor, the reason why some Christians are barren is that they’re facedown in the dirt and not looking at the Son.

They’re busy, distracted, stressed, and have wandered from their protos agape, their primary love. When believers lose sight of Christ’s love they tend to become religious, just like the Ephesians. The next thing you know, they’re thinking that they have do stuff like obey His commandments to prove their love or earn His.

What is the remedy for unfruitful branches? God is. He is the Gardener who does the lifting up. He is not there to slash and burn but to prune and lift. As you begin to bear fruit it will be for His glory, not yours. If you’ve been distracted doing the dead works of religion, just stop and come back to your first love which is His love.

And we also have repentance of our deliberate sins that put us back into that promise.

Repentance is important for everyday oneness in God. Do yall believe we should no longer acknowledge our sins and ask Jesus to help us defeat them?

How do we overcome? John gives us the answer:

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1 Jn 4:4)

Overcoming is not about jumping through hoops and satisfying the expectations of men. It’s about depending on The Overcomer who lives in you.

“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 Jn 5:4-5)

Are you born of God? Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God? If yes, then the Overcomer lives in you and you can’t help but be an overcomer.

That’s why Jesus told the disciples to be encouraged during times of tribulation; because he – not they – had overcome the world and because they would carry his overcoming Spirit within them.

We are called to fight the good fight of faith! Believe in what Christ has done and His life will be manifested in every circumstance of our life while on this earth.

As far as the letter to Sardis goes - here is a link below to a grace-based article that looks at this through the finished work of Christ for those interested in Rev. 3:1-5

Those being blotted out of the book of life are those that refuse to receive Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Their unbelief is the only sin that is left because Jesus took away the sin of the world.

"Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world."

Remember all scripture must be viewed through what Christ has accomplished on the cross and resurrection or we end up creating a works based religion that nullifies the grace of God from operating in our lives.

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Matt 7:22-23

Many will say to me "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, your name, your name"

They thought they knew the Lord because of the authority they exercised. They called Jesus
their Lord.

They are rejected for being evil doers, or doers of evil, ie sinners not the righteous.

Lie one - Jesus is not rejecting christians. He certainly is. They called Jesus Lord.
Lie two - Those who are obedient to Christ are those rejected - these are the accepted.
Lie three - evil doers are not rejected - these are the ones ignored

Now if someone can lie this obviously about simple warning of Jesus, how deeper will
the lies go. And if your heart follows this lie like it is the truth, how more lost are you.
Those who have ears need to hear.

Jesus delivers us from sin to walk in righteousness, for real empowered through His love.
The apostles saw this first hand, they testified to it in their lives and in the lives of the
converts. The power is in the testimony and His word, believe His word and walk in faith
and it will become true for you.

Those who wish to change simple words to mean something else will always deceive those
who are not called. Only for the elect will the words come true for.

Reckon Jesus is talking about actual trees???

If so, we're all way behind and need to buy some chain saws and get to work out in the country side taking care of trees that aren't bearing fruit

Matthew 7:17-20

Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Luke 3:9
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.

I bet the tree huggers are seriously upset with brutha Jesus!

Galatians 6:7,8
For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.

Hebrews 2:2,3
For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?

1 Cor 15:50
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

Romans 2:7
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:

But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
For there is no respect of persons with God.

John 14:20-24
At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
He that hath my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loved me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

There are biblical examples of people "doing these works" in Matt. 7 that were not Christians - they were not in Christ.

Everyone will call Jesus Lord when they see Him and it is very clear that Jesus said these were false prophets - not true Christians. Matt. 7:19

There were Jews that cast out devils and prophesied even though they weren't Christians.

Remember when we all see Jesus we will be calling Him Lord whether we are Christians or not and Jesus was talking to "Jews" in Matt. 7.

Jesus told the Pharisees that their "sons cast out demons".

Matthew 12:27-28 (NASB)
[SUP]27 [/SUP] "If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges.

[SUP]28 [/SUP] "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Caiaphas the High Priest "prophesied" that someone should die.

John 11:49-51 (KJV)
[SUP]49 [/SUP] And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

[SUP]50 [/SUP] Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

[SUP]51 [/SUP] And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation

IMO, He will remember our sins no more according to how he looks at us.

But Christ is forever going to carry those scars for our sins.

He will never look at you and I based upon our sins. But He will look upon His Son and see the scars and price He paid for our sins.....forever.

Did Jesus not control what went in to the Book of James?

Lots of scriptures tell us that ultimately our responsibility is to actually turn away from darkness and walk with the Lord, as His grace empowers us to be in an actual relationship with Him... those that don't will be shocked to find Jesus was serious in what He said here:

Matthew 7:21

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I've heard some popular preaches claim this is not talking about Christians... even though sinners out in the world don't call Jesus Lord.
Thanks for looking out for me, friend, but I'm good. I walk with Jesus every day. But my walk with Him is one of thankfulness and praise while a few others on CC place the praise upon themselves. That was the essence of my post to which you responded.

And what is a seal? A seal is a mark. The seal is the Spirit. Are we saved by the Spirit or by grace through faith. I am confident the believers who are warned in the bible to repent also had the Spirit. But as the bible says there consciousness became seared like a hot iron.

The seal is the mark seperating us forever. Now we are more accountable to our decision to believe.

When the word seal was used in other txts in the bible they where seals of a mark. Like the seal on the tomb or seal on a scroll. Which by no means these are impossible to open

If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown aside like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Fire is a description of eternal judgment.

Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.
1 Tim 5:3-4

Why is God giving recognition to the widows?
Because they are caring for their own family and repaying their family, this is pleasing
to God.

PLEASING TO GOD

Good behaviour, that is right is pleasing to God.

Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan.

The biggest folly of the modern church is to fall for satan's slick trick of deceiving Christians in to believing the teachings of Jesus are not for us today... making Jesus out to be a liar in Luke 16:16

The belief was foretold in God's Word and is a warning to all sincere Christians who desire to be in a close personal relationship with the Lord....

1 Timothy 4:1,2
Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron

("depart from the faith" is not referring to sinners in the world who never came to faith in the first place)

2 Timothy 4:3,4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine (teaching); but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Peter 2:1-3
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying (contradicting) the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Jude 1:4
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness (no self control, living after the flesh), and denying (contradicting, opposing Jesus’ teachings) the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (referring to false teachers and false brethren - see Matthew 13:24-30)

(Deny = Strong's G0720… to contradict, disavow, reject, abnegate, deny, refuse - and Strong's G4483… the idea of pouring forth, to utter, speak of or say, command)

Jude 1:17-21
Remember the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
These are those who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

("those who separate themselves" is not referring to sinners in the world who were never joined unto the Lord in the first place)

Acts 20:27-30
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-3
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
That you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

Matthew 24:3-13
What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ (saying I am anointed); and shall deceive many.
And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation (ethnic group vs ethnic group), and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in many different places.
All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (See 1 John 5:3 AND 2 John 1:6)
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved..

The bible also says in Exodus 32;33 this:

Exodus 32:33 (NASB)
[SUP]33 [/SUP] The LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.

It looks like we are all blotted out of God's book because we have all sinned.

All scripture needs to be filtered through what Christ has done at the cross and resurrection or we end up creating a works-based religion that uses the name of God, Jesus, Word..etc - but in effect we are denying the very work of Christ on our behalf.

Paul talks about our works being burned by fire and yet we are saved.

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
[SUP]13 [/SUP] each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.

[SUP]14 [/SUP] If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.

[SUP]15 [/SUP] If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

I am hoping that you get a revelation of the great work that Christ has done and start actually preaching Christ to people so that they can grow in grace and be strong in Him.

Yes, there are warnings for living after the flesh. Take up shooting heroin in your arms and the reality of that destruction will come quickly. But we are safe in Christ. Jesus said the Holy Spirit will be in and with us forever John 14:16 - is Jesus now lying to us? What else has He lied to us about?

Start preaching the gospel man so that believers reading can have the nutrients to walk in His grace and love for them.

It's not pleasing to God if an unbeliever does it. And an unbeliever can make it their mission in life to care for widows, and it won't please God.

If a believer, who follows the will of God and Is walking in the Spirit and cares for a widow in TRUE faith..........that is pleasing to God.

Our motivation in our walk is what matters. Not what we DO. Because unbelievers can DO a lot of "good" stuff.

The blood of Christ.

When God looks down on the mercy seat, He will not see the stone tablets, The rod that budded, or the manna (sybolising all the things God has against me, and condemn me) he will see the blood sprinkled on the mercy seat. that blood of redemption that set me free, and allows Gods justice to be satisfied completely (justification)

for you, Yeah, I guess you will have your works, Good luck with that..
There is a real emptiness here. The sacrifice is about making the believer pure
washing them clean, purifying them so they are acceptable to God, and sin no longer
is counted against them. But real repentance and sorrow is required along with confession.
God requires a repentant heart more than sacrifices, confession more than religious festivals.

So if one has not made ones peace with God before judgement, the blood does not apply,
because it has not been claimed. It is like not putting the blood on the door posts when
the angel came over, but just having it in the pot. It means nothing you have to apply it,
and know what it means. At what point is eternity going to enter your heart or reality
remake your soul?

Faith without works is dead... see what the Lord said thru His half brutha, James.

Why is the church full of "unbelieving believers?" They are denying the Lord by refusing to believe the gospel message of Christ's finished work on the cross.

True biblical belief is of the heart - not in the head or mind. God looks on the heart - man look on the outward appearance.

Getting "saved" is simple.

Romans 10:9-10 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

[SUP]10 [/SUP] for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

The process is simple too.

1) we hear the message of Christ - the gospel of our salvation in Him

2) we believe the message from our hearts

3) we were sealed with the Holy Spirit ( Jesus said in John 14:16 that the Holy Spirit will be with us and in us forever - now was Jesus lying or is he like a "bait and switch" car salesman that has "fine print" which He doesn't talk about )

Ephesians 1:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, = 1) the gospel of your salvationhaving also believed, = 2) you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, = 3)

you were sealed =
aorist indicative tense / passive voice = a one time event in the past that remains

passive voice = the sealing was not done by us but by an outside force - the Holy Spirit Himself.

( you know the same One who Jesus said would be with us and in us forever? John 14:16 - unless we want to call Jesus a liar. - me? I'm a believer in what Jesus said - let every man be persuaded in his own heart )
