Nothing: By rebelling we became a creature created from nothing, in love with it's self. quite fitting refereed as ego
Not to be misunderstood, we all have an ego, your name is borrowed from all of us, brother in Christ. "Despise no one," we would be despising ourselves, admitting our humor needs help.
Welcoming you Brother in Christ as the Holy Spirit is poured out on all flesh as well. We are slow learners and need to be patient with one another.

I do not want to be a smartbutt, but I will. You will not be very liked if you can answer a lot of questions, and will not get a whole lot of likes unless you dumb yourself down, because you know how people are with jealousy, and envy, and some will say,It would be nice if someone could explain the hard to understand book of Revelation, but if you do understand it they do not care, because they can't stand the fact that they do not understand it.

So have a good time, and remember dumb yourself down,do not act like you know a whole lot,and make mistakes in your spelling from time to time, and act like I did not know that, for a lot of people do not like a person that is that knowledgeable of the Bible, and will consider you a show off,but that is their flesh, unless you are showing off, which I refuse to dumb myself down, and do things contrary to my best,so I can be liked. For I will stand alone, all by my lonesome,if that is the way it is.

It is like a wife that has to dumb herself down, cannot do her best, and be all she can be,because the egotistical, arrogant, husband, will get jealous, and it will hurt his itty bitty ego.

Mat 13:53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
Mat 13:54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
Mat 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
Mat 13:56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
Mat 13:57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
Mat 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Luk 4:24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

A prophet is without honor in his own country, and his own house, and why is that,I'm glad you asked.

Because a nation, and a household, grow up with the same ideas, the same principles, the same religious ways, the same traditions, you get the picture, and when someone starts talking contrary to the standard procedure of what everybody goes by,they will say,are you crazy for where does this talk and beliefs come from,or who do you think you are for do you think you are better than us,more wise than us,smarter than us,for how can we not attain to these words you speak, and know them,so how do you being a person that grew up among us know things such as that,or you do not know what you are talking about, which was the case with Jesus who had a new thing going on,and they said, what, where cometh this knowledge, how do you speak such things, but it has not entered our mind.

Which that does not totally apply to what I said about dumb yourself down, but this is a web site, and everybody adheres to the Bible, and if you were to be able to answer everything about the Bible perfectly, thoroughly, plainly, and presentable,a lot of people would not like it,and also it would go against a lot of people's beliefs.

So have fun, dumb yourself down, act as if you do not know that much, and make spelling errors, and ask questions like you do not know, even if you do,and you will be liked, and talk more about food, and books, and fitness, and such, and you will be very liked, for you probably can get away with appearing as having some knowledge in those areas, but maybe not, unless you do not care if anybody likes you,and are going to do the best you can,and I say that is the wisest choice.

Like I said,sorry for being a smartbutt,but I know human nature.
You forgot to missppeell some words!!

I am a member of the Church or Christ and this rings true, for the most part.

We are taught that we are saved by baptism, but if you continue to listen you will realize that we do not really believe it. It's hard to say it clearly and adequately, but the teaching leans towards baptism-grace-works. Hear, believe, repent, confess, and be baptized - you are likely to hear this after attending for a short time, occasionally followed by "and live a Christian life. I don't really have a problem with "Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, and Be Baptized", but I am not comfortable with our "understanding" of baptism. I remember the "what ifs.." from my younger years. We would ask questions like "What if you died while you were on your way to be baptized?", as if God is not able to save because someone died while they were on their way to be baptized.

But, being a member of the CofC, I do not believe everything that I hear at the church building. So I try not to assume someone's beliefs because of the group they worship with (even though it tends to be a good indication:)).
I think you just described every church and every church goer.

and here's another, if that one is messy - Christ identified the bronze 'fiery' serpent as a type of Himself (John 3:14-15). from this perspective, what is the significance of the fact that the people were healed by looking toward an image of the very thing that afflicted them? that affliction being itself a righteous judgement from God?

When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel and took some of them captive. So Israel made a vow to the LORD and said,
“If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”
The LORD heard the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; then they utterly destroyed them and their cities. Thus the name of the place was called Hormah.

Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient because of the journey. The people spoke against God and Moses,
“Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food.”

The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. So the people came to Moses and said,
“We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us.”
And Moses interceded for the people.

Then the LORD said to Moses,
“Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.”
And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.

(Numbers 21:1-9)
Do you have the answer?
Been waiting for it many many years.

part of it.
the Son of Man must be lifted up in the same way ((John 3:14, you know, the thing that the "
for" in John 3:16 is "there for")) - and the rod that budded, which is also a symbol of Christ, which is in the ark of the covenant, which is also a symbol of Christ, and which rod also became a serpent and ate all the serpents that the sorcerers of Egypt's staffs became.

these things are all connected, and they all speak of Christ - the Seed of the Woman who crushes the head of the Serpent. Who became a curse for us, Who, knowing no sin, was made sin for our sake, so sin could be removed from us, and we from sin.

but if you mean "
has anyone here answered my post with an explanation?" well nope. not that i'm aware of, though i may have missed it; there's no way for me to read everything that gets posted and unless i get a "like" or a pm, i won't know if someone responds to me if i don't happen across it.

i genuinely want to know more about this, and understand it, freely admitting that i don't know enough or understand nearly enough to make sense of it: was hoping someone among all the brilliant theologians here could help :)

Hi Eqo; What do you suppose brought about the condition where most Christians believe that Jesus will return to gather the church before the tribulation while Jesus said that He would return to gather the church after the tribulation?

Yeah lol.......the Bride of Jesus Christ is put through HELL first before the wedding.....Does this mirror a Jewish Wedding????Let me think NO!....

Samuel, we have already had this discussion so I will not rehash it but thought the young EGO would like to KNOW!

You can get so ridiculous with that nonsense that you will even convince yourself the number of the loaves and fishes had to mean something... and the number of fish caught in the nets.... and the number of figs on a tree... and the kind of bird represented at Jesus' baptism.... and then it will even be the size of Jesus' sandals.

And all of that hocus-pocus comes from religious invention of men, in order to build some traditions.

What can I say Willie-T....your on a roll tonight!

I do appreciate the snide comments and arrogance, truly. Your internet boldness is truly a testament to your character. If you don't want to participate, feel free to move along and ignore. That's the beauty of freewill. Feel free to use yours! Like I said, this is to help me prepare a class structure AND to endeavor to study the Bible more both for personal enrichment and to be able to spread the Gospel.

@Sully haha, I didn't even catch that. My handle has nothing to do with a person's ego. I played paintball for several years when I was younger and the marker that I used was called an Ego. Just a good memory and I enjoy it for online handles.

@Desertsrose Hey! That is a good question. The Lord's Church refers to the one, and only one, church that Christ built on Earth while he was physically present on Earth. It is not a denomination. Denominations are a man made classification system and not a scriptural one. We in the Lord's Church are a New Testament church. We believe that we speak when the Bible speaks and are silent where the Bible is silent. We believe baptism for the remission of sins to be an essential part of the Gospel's plan of Salvation, we believe in the unity and oneness in God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we believe the Lord's Supper is observed on the first, and only first, day of the week, we don't believe in instrumental music in worship. Those would be the big ones, feel free to ask for clarification on anything else I didn't cover that you would like to know!
The CoC and they believe the New Jerusalem will relocate itself to some town in Missouri.
