I wanted to share a little this week on the Book of Romans Chapter 1--------maybe we can discuss it and look into it---it is suppose to be the top of the line for Paul's Writings... Romans 1:1-5 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: *********this Epistle was written about 52-56 A.D.**********Paul declares his apostleship and call*********Christ resurrection verifies his Divinity and His Power to Save---------more later...

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to *******the Jew first,****** and also to the Greek.

The claim that there are two gospels***** one for the Jews******** and one for the "Greek"**** is bogus....

****continuing on with the introduction of the Book if Romans---- do you realize you are a saint (Romans 1:17)--- this is our poisition in Christ and thus we should live as Saints by working out our Salvation with fear and trembling--- this does not mean living fearful lives but full of Respect and Gratitude for our Savior and not take our Salvation lightly---we are sanctified unto God and are being Sanctified in process as we yield to Him---- what does it mean to be sanctifed...?---- it means we are set apart unto God---- like the Holy Vessels used in the Old Testament Service---- a modern example of a sanctified vessel would be your wife's special salad bowl center piece she uses for guests---- well I will decide to use that bowl to wash the tires on my car ( mind you I will completely clean it like new when I am done) --- but no, the wife will say that bowl is sanctified (set apart) for a particular use--- and so thus are we set aside for God's Service ( not for worldly use)----- Paul urges us to live consecrated lives of service to God seeing we have received the Mercies of God (Romans 12:1)--- the main teaching of this book is God's Righteousness ( justification by faith) (Romans 1:17)--- In this Book of Romans Paul teaches the main points of Christianity---Martin Luther started the Reformation 500 years ago with half a verse ..."The just shall live by faith."

"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,"

"(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)"

"Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;"

This use of the word 'seed' and tying it to the flesh is interesting. I am used to seeing that the word 'seed' in the Bible often refers to Jesus, but emphasizing that it is a matter of the flesh prior to mentioning the resurrection puts me in the mind of the seed being sowed. Jesus did say that he was a grain of wheat (a seed) that had to fall to the ground and die to bear much fruit.

"And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:"

Interesting that the resurrection is how Jesus was declared to be the Son of God (with power, meaning I guess with the spirit).

"By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:"

The word 'apostle' simply means sent. Aren't all true believers, in a real way, sent from God once they are born again? Do you think all true believers could be called apostles in a certain sense? When Paul says 'we' here does he mean all true believers, or just a few? I notice a few verses later he mentions that all saints have received grace. Have all saints also received apostleship, being sent?

Another interesting thing about this verse is the use of the phrase 'all nations'. In contemporary English, all nations would mean everybody on planet earth pretty much. However, by saying that he has received grace and apostleship for the reason of obedience to the faith among all nations, it seems to me that he is calling 'all nations' only those who are obedient to the faith. To say that we are 'among' means to be a part of a group of distinct persons. I think this has implications in other parts of the Bible, where the term nations looks to the surface reader like it means everyone on the planet but is really meaning all the believers.

"Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:"

"To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ."

???

How does that Scriptures justify two Gospels?

It just says that Salvation was preached to the Jew FIRST, then the Gentiles...........BUT it was the SAME GOSPEL PREACHED.

****all believers are "sent" with the Gospel--- but Apostles are Ministry Gifts --- He gave some apostles ( Ephesians 4:11)--- same as we are all pastors in the sense of discipling one another, but not all hold the Office of Pastor...

**** Paul was an Apostle to all nations meant his sphere of authority ( for believers) mainly those Churches he established----he also had Apostolic authority among the unsaved in the sense he could demonstrate the Gospel with Power---this is also the key today among heathen and Muslim nations to demonstrate the Gospel---- when you heal the sick they usually listen more intently and get saved...

Continuing on in Romans-----------------Chapter 1:6-10 "Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you."-------------------will get back to talking about this part of Romans later---just one comment in verse 8 ..."I thank my God, through Jesus Christ for you all," ---this is proof Paul was a Texan through and through (you all)...

***Paul's desire for the Church at Rome was fruit----he wanted to impart Spiritual Gifts so they could be established (Romans 1:11) so today we need Spiritual Gifts so we can progress---yes, we have the Word of God and it is our foundation and all things are tested by it, but we need giftings as tools to express the Love of God----preaching in a Muslim country like Pakistan-- it help to have giftings to do Miracles, Healings, ect. these are all to bring glory to God and salvation to souls----how about in America---we also need giftings to reach people as tools----when you have supernatural knowledge you can witness more effectively---you will even know people needs before you talk to them---they really listen to you then----you can heal sick people that are sinners and they will also listen to the Gospel---dismissing Spiritual Gifts today is foolish---if they are misused it it foolish---if they are used correctly they are expressing the Heart of God...Paul in the beginning of Romans describes himself as a love slave of Jesus Christ (doulous) (Romans 1:1)---that is something that is missing in the Church today that people are true servants (doulous--love slaves)---yes, many love the Lord and are saved of course but Paul's heart was for fruitfulness as was Christ's (John 15)---this does not come about by slackful living---You will also see that Paul's prayers were towards them greatly and he desired to see them many times but was hindered (Romans 1:13) and this shows when you serve God you will be opposed by the devil at times to stop you and discourage you----some of you are desiring a closer walk with the Lord and the devil resists you----this is like the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-8)---the devil seeks to steal the Word that will bring you a great blessing and a great blessing to others----keep fighting the good fight of faith...

ROMANS 1:11-15 "For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that often times I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. After he has established his apostleship, he adds the Church in verses 6-7 "including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, to all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints" He establishes election as he begins this letter the Rome and all the saints Jew and Greek (gentile), many say he does talk about election until the 9th chapter, when he starts the epistle with election as he does all of his epistles.

This epistle is the creme de la creme of his writings, for Christian theology. Here's an outline of the book, it's not the end all be all, but it'll help us as an outline for the book. I love this book, I remember teaching this book in the prison and the men loved it. Me view was different at that time on salvation and I had to workout some verses. Which I had a hard time doing, I said what I was taught, but when I stubbled on the words, I knew I needed to teach the Bible as it was written and not how I was taught. Here's an outline.

2. Case of David (4:6-8)

4. Promise of Abraham, apart from the Law (4:13-15)
5. Abraham's faith the standard for every believer (4:16-25)
D. Benefit of Justification (5:1-11)

2. Additional ministries of the Spirit (8:12-27)
3. The security and permanence of the life of the redeemed (8:28-39)

This outline is from the Expositor's Bible Commentary. General Editor, Frank E. Gaebelein by Everett F. Harrison, Zondervan.

Hope this helps. i love the way Paul lies this book out, he establishes the weight of sin, which leaves us enemies of God with no desire to seek Him or service Him. Then he reveals God's love for His people.

The claim that there are two gospels***** one for the Jews******** and one for the "Greek"**** is bogus....

Yes one bride made up of all the nations of the world.God as Abraham is the father of many nations not just one.He is not a bigamist or a respecter of nations or people.
