I think just about everybody here would say that Jesus is "the answer." Does that mean we need to do what he told us to do? Why WOULDN'T we want to do what he told us to do? Is it all that difficult? If we find ourselves struggling to obey those commandments, should we give up?

I think it depends upon whether we are looking for commands to follow, or rather to be in His will.

As Christ said in John 14:15 - "If you love me, keep my commands.God is fully aware we are not perfect and may fall at times. However as long as we try our best for him that's all that matters. As the lord stated you will go through trials and tribulations but whoever endures to the end shall be saved. Christ being perfect gave his life for imperfect people.

Obedience is a way of life for people who have strong faith. Struggling to obey is a sign of weakening faith and spiritual dryness but we should never give up for power is perfected in weakness.

We will struggle at times and at times we will stumble but we persevere.

PrynceMY posts John 14:15. I think we need to look at the next few verses as well.

John 14:15-18
Jesus Promises Another Helper
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

I think he knows how weak we are, that's why he says he will pray to the Father and he will give us another helper, the Holy Spirit.

He he is the one who help us, remind us, teach us, encourage us.

Well, let's look at adultery. The Lord told us not to indulge in that activity. Why would we disobey?

I don't always find it easy to obey. Sometimes I fail. But the Lord always leads me to repentance.

I think because we allow the flesh to dictate/overtake us rather than the Holy Spirit.

Hi resurrection,

Yes, that's a true test for those who say they believe. When we're born from above, our desires become His desires because He's given us a brand new heart. It's a heart of flesh, before it was a heart of stone.

We've been made new and our desires change from going our own way of loving ourselves and pleasing ourselves to a new way of ......loving Him and doing what pleases Him. He said if you love me you will obey my commands.

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him.

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:1-4

Jesus is Lord so we would obey what Jesus said, which is to love one another as He loved us,and to abstain from sins of the flesh.

1Sa 15:20 And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
1Sa 15:21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.
1Sa 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

To obey is better than sacrifice, and if a person does not obey what Jesus taught, then how does His sacrifice apply in their life, for to obey is better than sacrifice.

We obeyed God when we repented of our sins, and confessed Christ,so why would we stop there.

Do you have some particular insight into adultery, beyond what the Lord mentions in the Bible?
Adultery isn't just the activity. One doesn't have to engage physically in adultery in order to be an adulterer.

Matthew 5:27
Adultery in the Heart
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

If we submit to the Spirit will we be of the Spirit, if we submit to the flesh, we will be slaves to the flesh.

Ever wonder why Jesus' ministry was only 3 years or so instead of 40 ? Quality is more important than quantity. We can go to church 20 times a week then go about our way and lust after worldly things, or we can go to church once a week and and sere God 24/7 be being obedient in all our ways.

Luke 4, Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit, was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil in all things, every time he was tempted he said, it is written, it is written etc. He obeyed God in all things and denied the flesh. Then Satan left him for a season and it says something very key that many people miss. Jesus came out of the wilderness in the POWER OF THE SPIRIT and a fame went out of him throughout the land.

God/Jesus taught us an amazing thing here, if we listen !! Only through obedience will God entrust us with the power of the Holy Spirit, or the Gifts of God. If you are double minded, God will not give you the gifts of the spirit.

Remember, God would rather have obedience than sacrifice. Even Jesus had to obey to gain the gifts of the Spirit.
