So in here, in forum, two men fight and what if someone comes in who has a seed in them, and by their fighting they cause life not to come to completion and the person leaves, saying I don't want to have anything to do with those christians - they are awful to each other. So I wondered if this could be the spirit of the matter - that two men fighting could cause a life to be aborted before the seed took a good hold...

Jesus was speaking of a town which received lukewarm water to drink. He was therefore saying you should be either hot, and useful for washing, or cold and useful for drinking. But to be lukewarm just made everyone sick.

Hmm...I can try.
We know that the word is Spirit because God is Spirit.
And we know that it is the Spirit that avails us. The letter kills.
And we know that we are to search out the Spirit of the word.
For instance, to see the letter of the word of thou shall not murder creates a presumptuousness that we have always obeyed that command because we have obeyed it in letter.

But Jesus explained it in spirit, and so we see that keeping it in letter, outwardly, does not avail us. The most it does is avail societies of men. Meanwhile, we continue to murder in spirit by our anger. All the while thinking we have never committed the sin of murder. But God demands truth in the inward parts - keeping the outside of the cup clean is putting a bandaid on a festering and mortal wound. Clean the inside of the cup and the outside will be clean as well because it is what comes from inside us that defiles us. So by the outside and by the letter, we can look clean to men but all the while be putrid inside, a whitewashed tomb. And we not only deceive others that we don't murder but are even deceived ourselves. The letter allows us to go on deceived but the Spirit and the spirit of the law brings life and healing. Does that help?

It's like...you know how the sacraments of the church are pictures of the spirit of the matter? The water baptism is a picture of our Baptism in Spirit. Marriage is a picture of our being made one with Christ. Communion is a picture of that awesome I-don't-know-what that is experienced when He comes and eats a meal with us and we experience His Presence.

So the sacraments are pictures of the spirit of the matter.

And all of scripture is like this. It speaks of Him! God was always speaking of Him! Hidden, but so amazing when we see a picture of Him in the OT.
