Can God Use Me?

(Eph 2:10 [KJV])
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

I was just listening to a radio show, and got both a blessing and a punch in the head all at the same time. If we are created for good works, then the obvious answer is 'yes'. The thing is, I already know the answer to the question posed in the title. I have also walked the road long enough to be aware of some of the spiritual abilities that the Lord has given me. For me, the question is "Have I been doing what I know I can do, or have I busied myself in too many other things?"

(Luke 10:41,42 [KJV])
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

The pastor said "Yes, I know that you go to Church, but you can go to Church and not do anything." Some of us go to work and do things for money, but do we do anything more than what we did before we were saved?

I realize that if you are a young person or a new Christian, you may not know what your gifts are or how to use them, but this is not the case for me. I have just been a lazy procrastinator latey and needed some cold water splashed in my face. We all need that sometimes, don't we? :)

Thanks Oyster. We all need that splash of cold water at times. I've been going through this as well. How can God use me in my situation? And I realized it doesn't matter what's going on in our life. God can use us all.

We aren't all called to go. Many are called to stay and bring the gospel to family friends and strangers we come in contact with.

I believe the challenges are or can be:
~ to our personal time and effort.
~ our desires.
~ either fear of others/wanting to be liked.
~ or in todays world it could be fear of persecution.
~ or maybe we just don't care? (frightening)
~ or we need ideas in how we can serve.

1 Timothy 6:6
But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Hebrews 13:20-21
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Philippians 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

I really want to see people saved and Christians learn what is actually in the scriptures, however there has to be the opportunity to speak to someone about the Lord or speak to a Christian about what is actually in scripture. Throughout much of my life I have found most lost people become quite angry if you do anything to get in the way of their descent into hell. Also most Christians are so loyal to persons or denominations that they will not hear you no matter how truthful your words...sad, sigh!

Yes, Yahweh can use you. He may be already using you and you are not really aware of it.

Sometimes the most effective "use" of a believer, is how they live their daily lives. By living Christ-like, and having the love of God shine through their lives, believers are being used by God to reveal Himself to the world. NEVER underestimate the power of the witness a believer living Christ-like is to the world.

God bless

That's right. With God any ole bush will do. He doesn't need our abilities, only our availability.

Amen....if we let the grace of God that is in us do it's work as we keep our eyes on Jesus and all that He has done - then we will labor more but it will be the life of Christ in us doing it and not us doing things in our own flesh and getting burned out.

The answer to the question of "can God use me?" is obviously...yes.

The answer to the question of "is God using me?" is also ...yes

We must be very careful in these questions as to not get discouraged. Many times we do not physically see God using us. If we are looking for great signs of God using us we will very often be discouraged. We must allow God to work thru each of us in the way that is correct for each of us. For some it is leading a huge congregation. In others it is in just words or actions coming from us.

God uses each and every Christian but He uses each of us in different ways. Dont try to "force" something big but allow God to produce something big. Our spiritual gifts are to lift up God not to lift ourselves up. As long as we are glorifying God in all that we do He is using us for His glory.

This is true. It reminds me of the old prophets. God told them they would not be listened to, but that they should keep-on just the same.

Yes. When the Spirit puts the want-to in our soul, it can even become a joy to serve and be used by Jesus.

Amen. We should not have or need our names to be in the limelight. Also, It is good to not even see great signs and wonders;

(John 20:27-29 [KJV])
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.

This world programs us to DO things for the Lord. And has defined Good works as overtly working. 99% of us are not going to do anything spectacular or noticeable in the world. We go to work,go to church, raise our family. help out here and there every once and a while.

It is our motives and how we think that are the majority of good works. Unseen and invisible to men.

Not complaining about things that used to make us complain. Not worrying about things we used to worry about. handling situations with Gods problem solving devices when we used to use our own problem solving ideas. Loving/respecting our spouse even when we think that they don't deserve it and we use to hold it against them. Raising children as unto the Lord when we used to raise them our own way.

As we grow in Christ, our motives change in all the mundane areas in our lives. And they go unnoticed in this world. But they are His Good works in us.

most of us are going to be invisible hero's if we learn His mind. Not visible hero's.

Usually, and there are exceptions, it comes down to "just how willing are you to keep plowing?". A line from a song comes to mind here: "When the things of earth, become strangely dim". To be able to "operate/negotiate" this life in flesh, whilst simultaneously, at the same time, become introduced, and familiarized into developing a "working/warring relationship" with this "government", that is on the shoulders of Jesus Christ, shall indeed provide "the candidate" more then many opportunities in the reevaluating and re-accessing one's priorities, as far as this "rat race", in this country, or any country, is concerned! "Eye of the needle", "dieing to self", "a living sacrifice". Comes to mind. All these terms, that are oft times used in one's trying to convert another to Christ, are also used in one's "Pressing ON", further growing. Meaning, that, although, convincing people to convert, is held in high regard, the "deepening/strengthing" of ROOTS, should not be jettisoned!

Good post and I agree we all need a splash every now and then, I like this post on bible-org.

Sometimes do you ever wonder why God called you to do something for Him? There are many reasons why God shouldn't have called you, or me, or anyone else for that matter, but God doesn't wait until we are perfect to call us. Think of all those God used. You're in good company if you think you aren't ready for God to use.

Abraham lied.
Sarah laughed at God's promises.
Moses stuttered.
David's armor didn't fit.
John Mark was rejected by Paul.
Timothy had ulcers.
Hosea's wife was a prostitute.
Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning.
Jacob was a liar.
David had an affair.
Solomon was too rich.
Abraham was to old.
David was too young.
Peter was afraid of death.
Lazarus was dead.
John was self-righteous.
Naomi was a widow.
Paul was a murderer.
So was Moses.
Jonah ran from God.
Miriam was a gossip.
Gideon and Thomas both doubted.
Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal.
Elijah was burned out.
John the Baptist was a loudmouth.
Martha was a worry-wort.
Mary may have been lazy.
Samson had long hair.
Noah got drunk.
Did I mention Moses had a short fuse?
So did Peter, Paul and lots of folks.

But God doesn't hire and fire like most bosses because He's more like our Dad than a boss. He doesn't look at financial gain or loss. He's not prejudiced or partial, nor sassy and brassy, nor deaf to our cry. He's not blind to our faults. His gifts to us are free. We could do wonderful things for others and still not be wonderful ourselves. Satan says, "You're not worthy!" Jesus says, "So what? I AM." Satan looks back and sees our mistakes. God looks back and sees the Cross.

Excellent point and example. (Just a bit of humor with my first response.)
