I think John 5:24 means that anyone who believes in Him has the life.
But I also believe and take care that my heart doesn't become evil and unbelieving and hardened as with Israel in the desert. Who was God displeased with and swore that they would not enter His rest? Wasn't it those He saved? They believed in Him for saving or they would never have stepped out between those walls of water. But then they became evil and unbelieving about food and water (provision). They believed Him for a very big thing - their saving, but then they refused over and over to believe Him or obey about smaller things like food and water. So we see that He saved them but their subsequent unbelief displeased Him. This is not remaining in the trust that saved you. So it was because of unbelief that they failed to enter His rest.

And I believe that branches that don't remain in trust are in danger of being cut off. But I also see that He is very patient. He gave them 40 years before He swore they would not enter His rest for unbelief. So He is kind and merciful and patient.

So the verses in tension to the verse you give have to be taken into account too. Because if He severed a branch that did not continue in trust so that I could be grafted in, won't He sever me if I don't continue in trust? He will not treat me different will He?

I'll tell you honestly the verse I get caught up on is "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than you consider yourselves.

Here is how how I interpret that verse....listen to someone else, all the ugliness and brokenness....just listen to it. Don't try to fix it with empty anecdotes and trite sayings that you heard from grandpa Earl. Just listen to it....hear the the heart behind it..make someone feel "heard" for maybe the first time in their lives. You're not gonna save people until you stop trying to "save" them. Youll save someone when you "love" them. And that is what grace is. It is a choice. Just like the kinda love that God loves us with is a choice. We are after all pretty difficult to love.

What a wonderful post sick. There is wisdom there.
God loves us even tho we don't deserve it. The least we could do is love another person who actually deserves ours..... if for no other reason on account of our gratitude to be receiving love that we don't deserve.....from God...thru Jesus.....the unblemished lamb....who was probably foreshadowed by God in the garden when he killed what was probably a lamb for clothes for Adam and Eve. That to me...right there....paints a picture of a God who meets us where we are....each of us....wherever we are on our journey with Him....he "clothes" us with Jesus...and corrects us along the way.

I never thought about what animal may have been used to clothe Adam and Eve in its skins... once someone tried to tell me that an animal had not died for this purpose, and I asked them, how do you skin an animal without killing it?

It had to be a lamb....God doesn't contradict Himself.

That does make sense... like Abraham's ram caught in the thicket :) Another prefigurement of Christ :D

Someone smarterer than me should do a study on Passover and how it relates to communion, and the lamb. It is all telling a story.

The symbology is quite rich... I love the Passover story and all that lead up to it, the supreme power of God smiting all the false idols of Egypt :)

It's so funny how we are considered to be sheep....and anyone that knows anything about sheep know that they are dumb and are desperately in need of someone helping them stay alive. LOL!

If you try to type sick it changes it to sick...
see - it did it again.
sirk. There. You have to manually go back and change it and then it accepts your way instead of its own.
Spellcheck is not christian because love never seeks its own. :D

Sheep need a shepherd, because they are dumb, directionless, and defenseless.

"They hear my voice"....in the sheep world they actually do recognize their shepherds voice. Would the sheep run toward the shepherd if the shepherd abused his sheep?

Ironically, in our culture the majority of people do just that.

I grew up not knowing what love was, not knowing Jesus even though I was raised in a rather strict religious home, and then running after and embracing what the culture at the time served up as love. I think it is the same for many who are lost. Nothing compares to the love of God.

We are supposed to be helping people find Christ. The people who say you must be sinless paint a picture in my mind of people harping at someone behind Jesus as He tries to love someone....and Jesus is saying.....SHUT UP. Lol

If you can't hear a persons "ugly" without causing them to feel judged.... you're doing it wrong.

Amen, there is an epidemic of abandonment whether it be via religion or just straight up turning away. Only the Holy Spirit can heal these soul wounds but i've found it takes a lot of time in most cases. It shouldn't be sought after like a drive thru. Many miles to go yet...
