Default the holy spirt (holy ghost)

I mentioned in a different thread that I wanted know more about the Holy Spirit and why the term Holy Ghost is hardly used anoymore (at least to my knowledge)

okay my only help in this topic is that Jesus once spoke there is none "good" but God....I would think the same about "holy"

but God spoke in the old testament..... Jesus was born and crucified in the new testament as He introduces the comforter...or Holy Spirit... (In Act talks about the intro to this topic...)

John 1:1 says In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the Word Was God
    (please explain this verse also)

I am Pentecostal...I totally believe that if I don't continually try to learn more about God's Word and about God and everything about my faith... I am weak...spiritually...and the devil will try to make me weaker

The word was "spirit", for some reason the translators chose to use the word ghost in places. Today it really seems strange since a ghost to us today is more like a demon.

For me, many long years ago when I first got saved, I did not understand the person of the Holy Spirit. However, I had studied the Bible back in Sunday School as a child, when the term Holy "Ghost" was used to describe the third person of the Trinity.

Someone explained that the old term had something I could think about. The Holy "Ghost" was sent to earth AFTER Jesus died. And you can't have a ghost, unless someone died. Except, of course, Jesus actually rose from the dead, and was no longer dead.

So that is when this teacher said, that really it is the "Spirit" of God, but he is like the wind, (ruach - Hebrews and pneuma - Greek) that blows everywhere and you cannot see it. But it is very powerful.

I do agree that Holy Ghost sounds kind of like dead bodies and seances, although if people want to use that term, I see nothing wrong with it. But the Holy Spirit means so much more to me today. Although, perhaps that is just because I have gotten to know him in my life, and seen him working in so many ways!

    Hi respectfully.
The Holy Spirit is the most mysterious Person of Godhead, but He isnt totally elusive by no means.
The term, "Holy Ghost" was used by the King James translators, the word ghost simply meaning spirit, and not a ghost as we think of today.

He is The One Who does the actual physical doing of things upon the earth, except for once in earths history...the incarnation... when The second Person of the Godhead came to earth as a Human and died on a cruel cross. Even then, Hebrews tells us that The Holy Spirt superintended, even telling Him when to give up the Ghost.

Hope this helped. The subject of The Holy Ghost is one of my favorite bible things to study and talk about.

    This.

If One doesn't hear the Words "Holy Ghost" at One's Church, then One may want to find a new place of worship.

In other Words, if One isn't learning from the KJV, then One is in danger of not learning at all.

***you should continue to learn and grow in the Lord as much as possible---don't take a negative stance that you are weak---focus on being strong and seeking God---people used the term Holy Ghost in King James English---people today usually say Holy Spirit---John 1:1--before Jesus became flesh and dwelt among us He was with the Father and was and is called The Word of God...

    OK everyone!

Now take out your NIV and read along with me...

    1 John 5:7
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one"

    Your NIV says that right?

Oh Base. Smh. Why did yu say such a thing? Have yu heard of bibliolatry?
It is the worship of a book itself...a particular translation. King James did not write the bible. He translated it into English. God wrote the scriptures.

KJV is definitely my favorite, and is second only to asv regarding word for word translation of the original manuscripts, and is surely the smoothest and most poetic flow of them all.

If you want to know more about the Holy spirit of the trinity,
    ask him.

The Holy Spirit is a person, teacher, comforter, encourage, councillor, revealer etc.

I ask him to teach me and show things when I read the bible.
    He is God and
    we are not.

Something I've been wondering about lately:

Is the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit a literal person? As in, does he have his own body just as Jesus has his own body?

This is simple modernization of the English language. There are a number of words used in the 1611 KJV that are simply not used in todays modern lexicon.
