Hey guys!

I am in Nashville,TN and am launching an internet station called LiFE615. It will focus on music with the sound of Country, Pop and other kinds of music that are all lyrically based on the uncompromising message of Jesus Christ.
The station will go on air on June 1, but I would love your feedback (good and bad) along with your prayers and support for God's Divine Direction.

Check out a video mix of the kinds of artists on the station here .

I really do appreciate your thoughts, support and prayers. I am nervous, but faithful!
Blessings to you!

I have long felt that there are basically two kinds of Christian music: worship and concert/performance.

In other words, some music is easily sung by a congregation while other is better left to a soloist or group of professionals. And this applies to music from all ages. Having a congregation sing Albert Hay Malotte's "The Lord's Prayer" is simply inappropriate because it's just too difficult for untrained singers. And then there are works like Handel's "Messiah" which certainly cannot be sung by a congregation in worship. That doesn't make the work any less worshipful (certainly a concert-goer can be worshipping while listening to great music!), but it does make it inappropriate for corporate worship.

I think this principle can be applied to today's music as well. There are some pieces that are simply best done by a soloist and/or band. Stuart Townend's piece "There Is A Hope" would be a good example of that. It's a beautiful song, and I know some congregations try to sing it, but the range is very large, and no matter what key you put it in, it's a stretch for most untrained singers. I would also say that a lot of Christian "rock" music, which is designed to be performed at very high decibels, inhibits congregational singing, so I think that is inappropriate as well.

Let me also state that these concert/performance works aren't necessarily inappropriate for worship (most services have some type of solo/special music time), but most of our music in worship should be sung corporately. That leaves a lot of contemporary Christian music out of the running, in my opinion.

Good luck with your music station. I think it's a great idea! Hopefully, it won't sound like every other contemporary Christian station and play a really terrific mix of high quality music.

I know this isn't music you kids will appreciate, but we used to do the same thing decades ago.

Walter J. Santos from New York used to do a lot of this.

Skip forward to about 20:00 for Santos.

Be careful, a pig dressed in a silk gown is still a pig. Be careful that you do not promote worldly music that has Christian words.

This is one of the dumbest statements that continues to be spouted by the "religious" who actually think Jesus sang the types of hymns we swear were written by the Saints, themselves. Those old guys wouldn't even recognize what you guys call "HOLY AND SACRED" MUSIC.

What exactly is Christian music anyways?

A very good point. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people who think they can truly declare what is, and what isn't, by things like the tempo, specific instruments used, garb of the singers, and a host of other traditionally accepted "reverent" identifiers.

No doubt, in my view the most profound thing of music is the message,

I could only listen to about half the sample video. It is definitely
not my flavor, and I love modern praise and worship music.

Plus, isn't this advertising, and advertising against the rues?

Question: What do you look for in a good worship song? Biblical doctrinal truth or a good beat with emotional words?

Mostly.... did it leave me considering something about how Jesus wants me to relate to Him and also those around me?

This song actually moved me very deeply to think a lot about God because I saw in it, a very unChristlike portrail of the typical understanding of God and us.

It doesn't have to be something "sacred-sounding" for me to think about Jesus because of the song.

Totally agree Willie-T. Take away the beats and sounds of a song and what are you left with? Strong spiritual words? Empty emotional blah? I believe many Christian songs today are popular for the beat only.
