Does everyone here know there are many words in the Torah that are not truly known as t6o their definitions?

I know that God is good and totally able, o the Word as it is preserved is good enough to relate to all what is truly important. Christ crucified and for what is all we need know who believe. The rest is good to know but not so important to salvation.


When the Holy Spirit firste entered into my hear and soul and mind, all the message was that came with It was simple and to the point, 2Everything is going to be fine." Believe that or do not, I do beliee it. Since, for my own sake, I have read teh Word in Hebrew understanding almost as little as I did before I began.

Having read the Wor continuously for a half century, it seems I do not know as much as so many do in this thread, but my study consisests of prayer,meditation waiting on th eLord and acceptingmy ignorance on the great portion that is yet not understood by yours truly.

Some assert and suggest that a meaning closer to “rest” is opposed to “Shabbat” as a formal time of the week. However, even if this is granted, the root for “rest” is “Shabbat (SHBT). This should bring us back to “Shabbat" as a “seventh” interval or (possibly) in the sense of an annual occasion, such as the 3 feasts, counts as “Shabbat” irrespective of the day of the week it falls on. Either way we are still talking about continual sacred occasions, patterns derived from the writings to the Hebrew people. So if it is mentioned as “keeping the Sabbath,” or “keep the rest,” it still brings us back to the fact that “rest” is a verb (motivation) of working to enter His rest, “rest” being eternal. Keep in mind that during the millennial reign of Christ the “Feast of Tabernacles” will be observed. This feast has 2 Sabbath days observed on an annual basis. (Zechariah 14:16)

“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord. Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath. (Leviticus 23:34 and 39)

Please keep in mind that the Hebrew spelling of Sabbath is mostly close to the spelling of "rest." "Week," "seven" or "seventh" are spelled totally in a different way. With that said, my thought is that you are looking at this subject through the filtering lens of your own perspectives that you have been taught by others in the past.


The same can be said for you, you know.


When I dropped all tradition, and looked at Biblical principles in light of what the original writer's cultural view was, I began to see scripture as totally cohesive to itself rather than seemingly contradictory truths that were impossible to be true according to my viewpoint.

Remembering to keep the "Sabbath day holy" would truthfully be said as to keep our "rest" as "set apart" from our normal work obligations.

Remember that manna from heaven is still our spiritual food, and this manna commemorates the instigation of the truthful "rest" for all of God's children, Jew and Gentile alike. I will quote scripture if necessary to complement my thoughts.

View the "spirit of the law" instead of the physical of the law, because, as Paul said, "the law is spiritual." Blessings toward you.
Thing is, you are not addressing the point for why Jesus referred 2 incidents in the O.T. where the saints DID PROFANED the sabbath day for why & HOW His disciples were guiltless too, and not for the excuse that the O.T. saints were in the Temple when obviously His disciples were not in the Temple and so they had One greater than the Temple there with His disciples that justified His disciples that sabbath day.

Until you see Him justifying His disciples for profaning the sabbath day; you will not understand why He is Lord of the sabbath.

Thank you for this. When I think of the Sabbath of the Lord my mind often winds up thinking of the great thousand years of peace with our King.

Many times I think I have some kind of grip on it, bu then I think abuot what I already know of the Word in general and i REALIZE THERE IS A LOT I will be learning and seeing. It is an awesome anticipation. The Book (among others) that right now pops to mind and keep me totally confused is Ezekiel. Lik all things in theWord I do not undersand, I believe it and wait for it to be revealed. The vast but very vast portion of the Word to be revealed will come on the Lord's day I beliee. It is so wonderful to consider taking the breath away.

I would offer another perspective.

In the end of the matter the Sabbath represents the true fast, the of kind of fast that the disciples did not use to cast out lying spirits. The focus is on the fast not the rest from our serville work needed to maitain our bodies. But the work we perform to bring the gospel. Which im Mathew 12 is represented by corn.

Like many words the word Sabbath has lost its ability to convey a spiritual principle used in parables called rest (sabbaton) . The word Sabbath is rest with no other meaning attached. It is not a time sensitive words.

It would seem the parphrasers did not know what to do with certain portions of scripture most likely they were holding to some sort of works righteousness when they changed the meaning of rest a non time sensitive word to a word that is restrained by time. Like the word week a non Greek word at that time. They did not use the word week in their vocabulary but would use the word day or days. Like fore instance 7 days ago I went to visit some friends
Mat 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and “to eat”.

Mat 12:5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

We cannot judge one another in respect to a ceremonial laws used as a shadow in various parables.

Picking corn (corn symbolizes the gospel, the word of God in the same way as manna) It represents the work of bring the gospel into the world. The work that was set aside from the servile work required to daily feed these bodies of death .The true fast spoken of that the disciples could not cast out. The kind of fast that can be heard on high.

Many exapmples how the word corn is used in various parables

Gen 41:5 And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.

That parable informs of the perfect word of God using 7 to indicate the completeness of it as spiritual food

Lev 2:16 And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

In that parable it represents the pleasing odor of the prayers of the saints

Psa 78:24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

Again representing the word of God coming down from heaven

Isa 36:17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
In that parable corn is used to represent the new heavenly Jerusalem as a city prepared as bride of Christ the church

Any time we hear the corn or mana of the word of God and harden not our hearts we have already entered his rest. Remember without parables Christ spoke not.

Here are my two cents as an Adventist. When people claim that if we want to keep the Sabbath, we have to do so in a certain way other than what was expressed in the 10 commandments. The 10 Commandments say that during the Sabbath we are not to work and Isa 58:13 tells us more of what should not be done during the Sabbath, but it also says that Sabbath should be a delight: [FONT=&quot]If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the [/FONT][FONT=&quot]Lord[/FONT][FONT=&quot], honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:[/FONT] Sabbath is a day of rest from the things we do during the week, like buying selling, working for money, or other secular persuits. The Sabbath is a day that we can spend time with God and his people without worrying about things that would stress us during the week. We can definitely seek God all week, that is not what we Adventists say, we just say that God does have a holy day and that he sanctified it from the foundation of the Earth according to Genesis 2:1-3. Sunday or any other day is not the holy day of God and to believe so is error. Worshiping on Sunday is a tradition, not a biblical mandate. Jesus condemned the Pharisees for trepassing the commandment of God by their tradition. Jesus also say that those who keeps man's commandments are worshiping him in vain in Matt. 15:9 and Mark 7:7. If you are convinced that you do not need to keep the Sabbath, then ok, but I will do the safe thing and follow Jesus and keep the Sabbath.

I truly believe the above.. a verse for myself seems to mean something to another.. yet the Bible is of no private interpretation ... a mystery or not.

The Sabbath is for us, for the purpose of observing (meditating) the spiritual aspects of the real truth, NOT man's traditions such as the self-righteous Pharisees. They were of the Devil (as per the words of Jesus). This time was made by God for us. We were not made for the Sabbath.

Concerning the things profaned, our question should be was it profaning traditions, or was it actually righteous concerning the spiritual aspects thereof.

"From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?" (James 4:1)

The self-righteous Pharisees were envious of Christ, always wanting to entrap Him with their self-righteous thoughts. We should be careful not to follow suit with them, "For we (both) know that the law is spiritual But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (Romans 7:14 and 1 Corinthians 2:14). Paul was right on!

Excellent points you make! Many times barley or wheat is translated as "corn." It takes some time to understand things, but doesn't that mean that we should continue to strive to clearly understand His Word, and not become complacent or apathetic due to the doctrines of humans?

You are correct IMO. When I was reading your post, I was thinking about the first day of the ":Feast of Tabernacles." That was a Sabbath day, and God commanded them to work in the woods and gather trees and foliage to make dwellings to live in for the next 7 days. That was work that would physically produce "sweat and blood." It was the work of God, NOT man. AMEN!!

A revealed mystery hid in parables, concealing the spiritual understanding from the lost. Revealing it to a kingdom of Priest (christians) who are given the understanding (privilege )needed to search out the mysteries.


Pro 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

You are correct IMO. When I was reading your post, I was thinking about the first day of the ":Feast of Tabernacles." That was a Sabbath day, and God commanded them to work in the woods and gather trees and foliage to make dwellings to live in for the next 7 days. That was work that would physically produce "sweat and blood." It was the work of God, NOT man. AMEN!!

It is something I have been looking into. Tabernacles are used to represent dwelling places of the believers, representing the invisible presence of God. I am not sure where the scriptures use the word gathering wood in respect to the tabernacle on a Sabbath?


The focus I believe more is the feast of the tabernacles in respect to the true ceremonial fast. It’s the kind of feast or food the disciples knew not of not having the spiritual understanding hid in parables

The kind of fast the disciples knew not of and therefore could not cast out the lying spirits .Praying and fasting a request that God apply the gospel. The gospel casts out the lying spirits

Mar 9:29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Firewood was needed the day before to bake the manna. No baking on the day of the Sabbath. One person was reported as gathering fire wood to bake the manna which had become non eatable. He was killed as an example of those who go above that which written .

Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. Num 15:31-33

The Sabbath was reserved for working to bring the gospel into the word represented by corn. The kind of fast that can be heard on high as the Holy Spirit applies the corn or manna the spiritual bread to the hearts of others in a hope they will become new born again creatures according to His great mercy and grace.

Doing the safe thing is like you saying you do not believe because of Jesus Christ in you, that you are guiltless for profaning the sabbath day.... and so you are laboring in unbelief by keeping the sabbath day and have come short of that rest because of unbelief.

You either place all your hope on Him or you divide that singular hope by playing it safe and look to yourself to keeping the sabbath day, thus voiding your hope in Him to make you stand in Heaven apart from the law.

let our buying and selling be always in the service of God, not mammon.

11(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13So she caught him, and kissed him, andwith an impudent face said unto him,
14I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
