Please this is an attempt to find common ground. Take the poll and explain clearly what the gospel of Christ is.

1. How does someone gain salvation?
2. How does God want to live our lives?

Two simple questions that can show the foundation we build our faith upon.

I believe the gospel is about repentance, confession and walking righteously, but HOW God makes this happen in the lives of believers is important.

Repentance is God working in our hearts before being born again.

Confession is when we accept the gospel that Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

Walking righteously can only happen after we have been born again and are lead by the Holy Spirit. (we no longer have to repent of the son of unbelief but we must learn self control to stop willful sin and wisdom to learn how to live godly lives)

All are part of the gospel of salvation.

The answer is not all that hard. If people just open their minds and their hearts.

Ther Jews thought salvation was walking righteously according to the law/ Jesus spent much time discounting that thought. Paul spent most of his epistles trying to destroy these false addictions too the gospel of Grace. In fact. It is clear by Gal 3 that no one can walk rtibghteously according to the law/ It was given to show us our need of a savior.

so why would we think today would be any different.

It has difficulties for a few reasons..

1. Who is the guide we use to determine what is walking rioghteoiusly enough to keep saved,. Or gets saved? If the law was to harsh,. And no one could live up to it. Is the new guideline lower than the law (a watered down version)

2. Whatever law we use. What determines who is above and who is below (in danger of falling away?)

3. Would this not put the emphasis of salvation on the person. Not God. And we are thus forced to save ourselves by our ACTIONS. In which case. Why did Jesu suffer the cross. If he did not have to?

This is legalism at its most dangerous part. It sounds good. And if it sounds good. Satan can use it to fool people into thinking it is ok.

Here are the facts.

Saying we ,use walk righteously to GET SAVERD, or STAY SAVED is saving ones self. Or law. Or legalism. And in reality is rejecting Grace

We walk righteousne4ly BECAUSE WE ARE SAVED> Not to get or maintain salvation.

Walking is a by product of faith, out of the fact we have been saved, Not to keep or maintain salvation.

The Gospel is about Believing God and believing the Word of God who is Jesus who is God manifested in the flesh.. The Gosepl is about trusting 100% in the Way God has made for us to be saved through the Atonement secured by the LORD Jesus Christ...

I agree with posts #2, 3 and 4.

Repentance is something granted to us from God - not a work we create ourselves.

We are told by Jesus to "repent - and believe the gospel." Mark 1:15

Repent means to change the way we think concerning something. We change our belief that we can do things ourselves by our own self-effort and human will-power but instead follow the way that God has set up which is by believing in Christ's finished work on the cross. This brings fruits of repentance - such as relying now completely on the grace of God through faith for life and living instead of our own ways - including living by our own righteousness and goodness for salvation.

Yes, this includes how we view sinning from living immoral sexual lives to being filled with malice and slandering others in the body of Christ.

Confession means to "say the same thing". We confess that we have sin and that His blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness. We say the same thing of what our Father says about us in Christ - that He alone is our righteousness, sanctification, wisdom and redemption. That in Him we have redemption and eternal life.

Because we are righteous in Christ - His life in and through us bears His fruit of love which reflects outwardly in our behavior what we are now in the new creation in Christ - the inner man that is the new heart - created in righteousness and holiness.

As we behold the glory/goodness of the Lord as in a mirror - we are transformed by the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of grace. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds to the realities that Christ has already done by His work on the cross and resurrection.

We participate in this with the Holy Spirit for it is God who is at work in us - both to will and to do His good pleasure. This is how we work out the salvation that is already in us in the new creation in Christ.

The true Christian life is not "mimicking Christ" per se but it is His life living in and through us so that others can see His love and grace for them.

As we have received Christ our Lord - so we walk in Him and it is all by grace through faith in Christ's work alone. Col. 2:6

So in summary it's more about motives than outward actions because what we see as "good works" can be done by two different people for totally different reasons?

So if we don't repent, we can use the excuse that God just didn't give us the ability to repent?

(i don't believe that is what you are saying but want you to clarify your beliefs if you will humor me)

Romans 5
6For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath [of God] through Him. 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

That's a good question.

We do know that God is the one that grants repentance ( Act 5:31 ; Acts 11:18 ; 2 Tim. 2:15 ) and He uses the preaching of the gospel of what Christ has already done to do this.

This is why the accurate preaching of Christ's finished work on the cross and resurrection is of paramount importance so that people can build on a solid foundation which is Christ Himself.

Sometimes what we hear as the gospel is not really the gospel so that will have a factor on people repenting because God uses the truth of Christ to show us our need of a Savior.

Faith always comes with the message of Christ - we can choose not to believe and go our own way even after we hear the true accurate message of the grace of God in Christ's work.

The accurate portrayal of the gospel of the grace of God in Christ and the true nature of the Father needs to be proclaimed. Watering down the gospel is never the answer because it is the power of God that He uses for salvation to "everyone that believes."

I believe the scripture below shows this out.

Romans 10:13-17 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

[SUP]14 [/SUP] How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?

[SUP]15 [/SUP] How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"

[SUP]16 [/SUP] However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?"

[SUP]17 [/SUP] So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

just that it's a foundational truth - it holds the gospel message pure and unadulterated.

Again, It is quite simple.

If your being good to get saved or maintain salvation. You are really no different than a pharisee, or any other works based religion which is the basis for most if not all religions on earth (apart from true christianity)

If you teach we walk because we are saved, But we rely on Gods grace no matter what, We are walking by faith not sight..

Again, do we walk to get saved, or because we are saved.. There is no in between.

Doesn't really clarify anything.....does God give everyone the ability to recognize good and evil and repent or do sinners have an excuse of being "ignorant"?

I believe scripture says God has given His laws to all of humanity. Everyone is born with a moral compass, but we do not always listen and follow God.

I believe the first step of preaching the gospel message is for people to realize that they Need a savior.

2 Cor 7.10:
[SUP]10 [/SUP]For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Repentance is not verbal confession....repentance is a heart condition as evidenced from the above verse. Repentance does not end with initial conversion.....Repentance is a gift from God..Repentance is the fruit of Godly sorrow and God's goodness...repentance is inseparable from saving faith....Repentance is a COMMAND from GOD [Acts 17.30] repentance is a change of mind and behavior...

I guess it comes down to how would you talk to someone who believes in another religion for their salvation?

You used to,believe in works salvation.

How was the gospel preached to you? How did you come to realize the difference between doing good works for the love of God versus doing it out of fear?

It saddens me that more than half the people think this is a true statement.

The gospel is the good news of Jesus, It states God came to save mankind, It is about redemption, Justification, New birth, Restoring mankind to a relationship with God. It has nothing to do with walking righteously.

The RESULTS of the gospel. or growing on to maturity, Or leaving the elementary principles behind are about walking in righteousness.. Not the gospel itself.

People try to mix the gospel, or justification with sanctification, That's why there is no power in the church, thats why their is no healing or rest in christ.. Legalism will never cause anyone to walk righteously, It will only at best get people to THINK they walk righteously..

I'm glad you asked 2 different questions. Because they have 2 different answers.

The 1st one, how are we saved from the penalty of our sin, eternal death, I believe is the Gospel unto Salvation. Which is believing that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. Born of a woman, conceived by the Holy Spirit. suffered, was crucified, died, and rose to life on the 3rd day according to the Scriptures. If you confess with your mouth Jesus IS Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you WILL be saved.

This faith, given to you by God, is then followed by the Holy Spirit sealing you with His Presence.

NOW we can talk about how we are suppose to respond to Jesus saving us, and how we should live and conduct ourselves.

The gospel is about SALVATION which is both justification and sanctification.

If you only want to talk about justification, you only get half the gospel.

Same goes for sanctification.

Both should be preached in the gospel message.

It is not legalism to teach the FULL gospel message.

it is blindness to not see what people say and superimpose past prejudices upon others.

I guess it comes down to how would you talk to someone who believes in another religion for their salvation?

How did Jesus talk to them? How did paul talk to them? Did they sugarcoat the gospel so as not to offend them? or did they tall them straight out (especially the religious jews trying to add works to the grace of Christ?)

You used to believe in works salvation.
How was the gospel preached to you?
People got in my face, told me what an arrogant person I was. Told me to stop judging people and excusing my own sin, Told me to stop trying to defend myself and actually listen to what people are saying, Told me to sit down and actually study the word, And stop listening to men, And finally, I believe God worked on my heart.

did you come to realize the difference between doing good works for the love of God versus doing it out of fear?

I came to realize people who talk about works (including myself) were self focused and not worried about others. That if we seek after the things of the spirit (serving and loving others) works stop being an issue.. That people whgo are real may not be perfect. But they have a power of God. That people who proclaim works, are usually the ones with hidden sins, Judgmental, and lack the power of God.
