Hi all,

I am told that scripture is the Living Word. But to be honest ,alot of the time it just feels like words on a page. What am I doing wrong?( BTW...it hasn't always been like this ....I have had some very supernatural experiences with the bible ...am I going through a dry phase?)

What is your definition of a supernatural experience? How do you read the Bible are you looking for something or do you let the Bible speak for itself, draw out what it means or do you have something in mind and look through the Bible to find something that would verify what you already believe? That can definitely cause a so-called dry spell.

There are audible narrations of the scriptures on youtube. Perhaps you can receive the word better by that method

No.I just read the bible for what it is.I wont go into the specifics of my experiences but they were real.I just find the bible so boring right now.

Anytime you start to feel the quenching of the Spirit ask God to fill you with Spirit and to light a fire within you to eagerly seek him.

And then what if i told you the Words in the Bible is God speaking directly to you!

His word in the bible is breathing and active, sharper than a double edged sword. Its always ready to tell you new things as God shows you new things.

This is when the bible became more than paper, once i grasped that im basically holding a conversation from God to me and he is always speaking to enlighten me in weak areas.

So amazing

Just read the bible when you want to read it, if you force yourself to read it you'll just end up hating it.

The danger with this thinking is that if I read the bible when I feel like it ....I may never read it because I will be giving myself over to my flesh.

It comes with the perseverance of faith and your ever growing eagerness to grow closer to Christ. I also have other motivations also that makes reading the Word more exciting. I love to talk about my faith and I am very hard on myself to teach others truth. So this makes me study hard. I also study and read to build my faith so I can be a good spiritual leader for my wife and kids after all my kid's souls are potentially on the line if I never showed them my love for Christ.

I also listen to Christian radio stations that have radio preachers that enlighten me on certain subjects that push me to search deeper. I also have accountability partners who help me stay motivated, challenge me, and help me. I meet with my preacher once a week for one on one bible study. Our church has small groups where I make friends who also motivate me. Worship on Sundays makes me excited to read and see what God wants to teach me and lead me to during the week.

I am currently being led to witness to our local jail which I am so nervous about but at the same time so excited about. The Spirit is leading me there but that doesn't make it easy to listen and the go and do.

Doing good and loving others as Christ loves you will set your soul into excitement and crazy energy.

Just the one.I am not familiar with any of his other work and I got this quote from a random Puritan website.

I have been saved over 35yrs and just recently have I begun to need the truth in the Bible to survive each day.
For years I could survive on the little devotional booklet our churches put out called "Our Daily Bread" along with other Bible reading plans along with opening my Bible and reading the planned out verses for the day. It was very nice and I felt like I did my part. I finished reading., said some prayers for the day and figured God was happy now.

I raised kids on that religious process and went to church on it and heard messages on the little bit I heard and enjoyed. I revered the leather Bible books in our home. One large leather bound Bible stayed on our kitchen table in the kitchen as a reminder to all who saw this was a Christian family.

As our kids got older they could see the drastic difference between the written word on the page and the written words on our hearts as parents. And so could we. I wondered what is wrong?? We are doing what we were taught and it's not working. We knew all the doctrines but we lacked the fruits of the Spirit. Anger and annoyance and confusion still were major parts of our lives.

As the kids got older the trials got harder. The Bible was always there yet our hearts were not changed by it because we didn't know how to change. We were doing the Christian life as best we could as humans. Now after the shambles we made of our lives and our children's lives I look back and see how the outside looked great. We didn't curse or swear. We went to church 3xs a week and twice on Sunday. We were members in good standing and we sent our children to Christian school. With Christians who were just like us being religious and following the religious formulas they believed would give proper leading.

The way my life changed and when the Bible became welcome food to a starving heart and started changing life was after being baptized in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit ministering truth without going through the human reasoning pathway is when life changed. He doesn't need us to reason out humanly how to live by faith. He will do it for us as we receive from Him.

That was the change that made all the difference. There is a steadfastness in faith in God now. It can't be moved because it is of Him. The unconditional love of God, His grace and truth manifest in our hearts when we accept that unconditional love. It will bypass human reason and bring us to the secret place of the Most High so we can truly dwell in the shelter of the Almighty. He becomes our refuge and our fortress. His love allows us to go to Him anytime anywhere any mood. He doesn't see our failures He sees Jesus. We have the righteousness of Christ that gives us a right to be graciously treated.

But many believers won't go there because they feel unworthy. They don't believe how much Jesus got for them and how much more salvation means than when we first believed. We have power and love and a sound mind but we will not experience them unless we learn to work them out by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is only words unless activated by the Holy Spirit. Leather bound Bibles on the kitchen table and in the living room and bedroom are lovely but won't hold us up without the Holy Spirit- the living water. John 7:38-39

[SUP]38 [/SUP]He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, [SUP][a][/SUP]from within him shall flow rivers of living water. [SUP]39 [/SUP]But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: [SUP][b][/SUP]for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Nah, nah, that's not how it works.

It's the spirit that reminds you of all truth, not reading the bible 24/7

When I read the Bible...it is God speaking to me.

When I pray...it is me speaking to God.

When I study the Bible...I am preparing myself to share with others and live out what God has said.

You can only consider yourself Spirit led when you are adhering to the Word.Being Spirit led is not some smooshy, wishy washy phenomenon that some charismatics would have you believe. The bible is central to being a christian ...no bible = no Christianity.
