Music has a real effect on people in how they live, things they learn, and how they go about things. So is it the artists job to give a positive message or is it the parents job to protect their kids from certain kinds of music?

hi I think it is the parents job not just so much to controll what the kids listen to but to instill a maturaty about the messages they so redaly recieve. look at it this way dosnt everything in your day to day life minister to you in one way or another not all music can be deemed spiritual but all music is in one way or another emotional and most music has a message it wants to convey through words also.
every were you go there are things that minister to people not just music. it can be friends, TV, even the cool wind in your hair haha
so I believe in instilling people with sound knowledge and understanding is a great start, and everyone in society recieves that to some degree
the bible also teaches about knowledge and its benafits,

No, I was just listening to music and it just popped into my head. I agree with pagie too, but I think as artists, they have a certain responsibility also. Like the kids from Columbine...they listened to music that inspired and encouraged the kids to go out and kill and stuff like that. Yes its the parents job to protect the kid, but really, its hard to protect kids from everything, especially music. All music has to have is a nice beat and the person could go for the song. And while the person is listening to the song, the lyrics could be bad. So I think that the artists should be held to a certain degree, but some artists dont, so thats where I think the parenting comes in. Influence your kids as much as you can, and show them the right way as much as you can, because in the end, they will grow up to be what you taught them to be.

outlaw music! lol jk
IMO it's the parent's job to teach a child what type of music is right or wrong... so when that child grows up and is able to choose which music they want to listen to... or in an artist's case, play... then they will better know how to make the right decisions :)

i didn't really read what everyone posted... but my mom never put limits on what i was/wasn't allowed to watch or listen to... and just by knowing God, i can decipher the right from the wrong. sometimes i stumble and make wrong decisions (i mean... i LOVE shaggy and he's not exactly a christian artist lol) but... for the most part i'm capable of stickin to the good and filtering out all the rotten stuff :p

Music, Types Genres, there is no Good type of music, only spirits, yea, lyrics are the most important thing when it comes to music, and the spirit upon it. People hate on genres when in all reality, its irrelevant what the genre might be, especially if that artist is honoring God's name through there music. Things like Good Godly values, and things that God would have us meditate on, those are the things we should be looking for in our daily lives. Music is a way for God to keep in touch with you, its actually devine, God created music, for worship. So even though we are effected by many things. Music is a door to the spirit. So anything that you are listening too is soaking up in your spirit. So whether or not its the artist responsibility or the parents Lol, I mean artist do what they want, but em. Parents being parents need to show whats Gods wanting their heart to dwell on, not based on the genre they like Lol, but the lyrics God loves. I hate it when people Put God in a box, and say no! he doesn't like Rock...or Rap, or regae, or country...or this and that Genre...he only likes gospel music. And when I listen to Rock and regae, or country which don't get me wrong I don't listen to country...but if I listened to anything, I want to make sure its not dishonoring God. Because we got no idea on what genre God likes to be worshipped, he wants worship in spirit and in truth not...in hymns and in fasting Lol. Music ain't a event, its a heart thing. If your treat fasting like an event its no longer a heart thing...so whats music any different, if your doing by tradition and not with your heart?People will put Jesus in a box and say no!, God doesn't like that music, even though that music is honoring God, "it can't be God's music cause those beats are demonic because they came from africa"!, Man shut up people with traditionalism, the heart of God is to worshiped, to be loved by us. The genre is irrelevant, you can argue it all day, but not biblically but opinionly...anyways yea Lyrics are numero uno! and parents duh! tell em what jesus likes...its easy, he loves you!, so anything you listen to, not only do you have to hold yourself accountable for the fact that your letting things into his temple, but is it gratifying God. And with that, your children should be able to make the right decisions. Yea we try to blame it on artists...but I mean its a free country they got the right to broadcast whatever they want...So just give children a heads up.

I personally feel no wrong in listening to some of th emopre Modern music. I am young. I feel aslong as none of the lyrics are agaisnt God or any of the Laws he has put down for us, Then it is okay.
Like the I Kissed A Girl, by Katy Perry, i would never listen to it, as I feel it is an abomination to be homosexual. - or Robbie Williams - Bodies
However I have no consence about listening to things like Evacuate the Damcefloor or Chi Mai or any such like ahrmless tunefull songs

Certainly it’s the artists’ job to provide music that is acceptable in the eyes of the Lord, but how many do? Therefore the parents have to supervise the kids’ use of music, right?

it is the parents job, art should not be censored for the better of the children. Parents need to set rules for their kids, and tell them why it's bad in the first place, that way they can make good choices when they are older.

to think that art should be shunned, because some parents don't want their 5 year olds learning about sex just yet (when most times, the art is clearly not for them) I sort of think it's a poor excuse to avoid
actual parenting.

(blame game=bad game)
