More to do with wilfully sinning, maybe reviling the holy spirit, blaspheming. Unpardonable if continued? Says Pastor Scott Velain on willful sin. Showing direct connections, people don't like to know because they want to believe the nice and fluffy version of the gospel and ignore the hell part.
Oh..,sorry, didn't realize we had a Hebrew roots disciple trying to win converts.

Sorry, I don't trust this guy to teach the Bible accurately. Especially if he is preaching that those who don't stop smoking are going to hell....which seems to be what your posts imply.

Might be wrong, but not interested in finding out tonight.

Sorry for posting in your thread before reading to the last page.

I admit, I was just stalking Lynn.

Love you, Lynn. You and your hubby have been in my prayers. Catch you in another thread,

I get a little confused. Is willful sin continuing to smoke when your body tells you to or mind wants to, even though you don't really want to. You just feel you do. I feel bad smoking but i also have a feeling that drags me to it. But smoking or drinking is always a choice? Right. Am i willing, by choosing to satisfy the want or what? Am i damned already because i had a cigarette willingly? You see people's issue? Some say you cannot lose salvation as it is done. Others say obedience, make the body a sacrifice and don't sin. Then your ok. I feel guilty for smoking etc, knowing i shouldn't.
I would say, rather than being so conscious of sin,be conscious of your right standing before GOD,keep looking at the spiritual mirror
(the bible) renew your mind to look like CHRIST,for we are GOD's workmanship created In CHRIST unto good works.

I think willful sin maybe ignoring the holy spirit when being convicted. Just because you want to E,g, get your leg over etc. Or think yeah it's bad smoking, but I'm going to die anyway, so ignore and continue etc.
Brother, you seem to have the heart to change but can't because of temptation(emotions, cravings). You feel condemned and think that you're in a futile struggle to be free but, please, stop panicking/struggling/worrying for a moment and ask yourself why are you really worried? The battle is not in what you can and can't do. The battle is in your head. Every emotion and feeling are direct results of your thoughts.

Just as some have already pointed out, the battle for your addiction is already over. Jesus your savior has won it for you already. You just have to keep anchoring your faith on that truth and all those emotions will fade away.

You may think to yourself, "it's easier said than done" or "it's not as simple as that" but it is. For example, a guy gets really angry in a restaurant after getting a really bad service or whatever. It gets to the point that he starts asking for the people in charge of the restaurant, then suddenly the owner comes out and he recognizes that this owner is the same guy who saved his life a year ago. What do you think happened to all his emotions and rage? Gone. In an instant.

In the same way, stop struggling thinking about quitting smoking and worrying about how you are not winning, start by the truth (Jesus). Read verses that are life, love, and peace and avoid verses that are about good and evil, the law, and condemnation because all those Jesus overcame for you already.

Keep it simple brother. The more you worry about tomorrow, your smoking, and your addictions, the more you'll likely lose that day. By struggling to focus on doing good, you lose the peace and the joy of living a stress-free life.

If you're still unsure of your salvation, go back to the bible and read the verses that really talk about salvation. Don't get side-tracked on things you have doubts because that's where you'll likely be attacked.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17

Read that verse until that truth sinks in and let it continually renew your mind daily. The more you focus on Jesus, what He did for you, and all the things you have now because of His work, the more things that are lesser will fade away. And before you know it, you are producing good works, at peace, joyful, healthy, and winning.

God bless you and may God's grace fill you with peace and security every single day of your life.

Honestly, I wouldn't ask this of many people on this thread, (nor do I want everyone else's answers when I'm asking here), but you seem to have the kind of heart that can answer honestly, but humbly, so I will.

What do you do when there is willingness to change but no ability?
Why wouldnt there be an ability to change?

After thinking about this, I think I kinda understand what you mean. Theres never a lacking in the ability to do whats right, but at the same time its untrue to say that we will do perfectly from now on until our last day in this life.

So, I guess my answer would be, its not about succeeding, as in complete and utter victory over the flesh and all temptation. Jesus didnt give His life for the victorious. But I strongly believe that there has to be something in the heart, a willingness to fight and say no, and an attempt.

And no, I do believe the "attempt" saved you. But I dont believe a person can both repent of what theyve done, and carry on with no will or desire to change, or no acceptance that theyve done wrong.

Hope that answers your question.

And before someone quotes the good ole if we say we have no sin verse, take a deep breath, im not talkign about being 100% sinless, im talking about willfull sin, willful disobedience.
There is certainly a difference between "practice" sin (continuous action, no repentance, just bring it on) and commit an act of sin but continuing to pursue repentance. To "sin willfully" in the Greek carries the idea of deliberate intention that is habitual, which stems from rejecting Christ deliberately. This is CONTINUOUS ACTION - A MATTER OF PRACTICE. Now we don't walk along our daily life and accidently fall into a pit called sin. We exercise our will but, the use of the participle clearly shows a CONTINUOUS ACTION. The unrighteous practice sin - (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21); not the righteous, who are born of God - (1 Corinthians 6:11; 1 John 3:9).

My thought is to stop listening to internet preachers of any sort. Especially judgmental SDA ones (I do believe they are saved, but then trap themselves in legalism!). Instead, read the Bible daily! Pray and read it. Study it! Read 3 chapters of the OT and one of the NT and you get through the Bible in a year. See what God says to you.
But, but, but... he's listening to John MacArthur too.

I don't know! But, if I had that ability, I would no longer be a smoker. The willing is here. The ability isn't. And yes, I cried out to God (literally and not.)

It didn't, but that's okay. You tried. I don't get it either, so I do get "don't get it." :)

1COR. 16:12.
As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren:
but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.

it's slavery to one or the other, fortunately, being a servant of Jesus is freedom.

Who told you smoking a cigarette was a sin?
1 Corinthains 3
16Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

so, can a willful sin be forgiven?
what about murder? can it be forgiven?
