1 John 2:15-16 21st Century New King James Version
"15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world -- the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life -- is not of the Father, but is of the world."

How easily we fall into addictions! No matter the form, whether it be our working (to have more stuff), or drugs (to ease our minds from the realities of the world), or something simple as television (where we spend countless hours ignoring God and His Word.)

What's the core issue here? What is the origin of all addiction? The answer is pride. As described in I John 2:16, pride will manifest itself in one of three ways - "...lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.."

Why should a Christian be keenly aware of these three things? Because the enemy will seduce you with one of these three things causing you to turn your eyes away from the Lover of your soul. Be careful of these three things. Remember, that if you are walking closely with Jesus, you will be constantly under attack from the enemy.

Read the quote below and determine if it can be applied to you. Become aware, deny the world, follow God. It is the only pathway to peace.

"The TV is my shepherd, my spiritual life shall want,
It makes me to sit down and do nothing for the cause of Christ.
It demandeth my spare time.
It restoreth my desire for the things of the world.
It keepeth me from studying the truth of God’s Word.
It leadeth me in the path of failure to attend God’s house.
Yea, though I live to be a hundred, I will fear no rental;
My “Telly” is with me, its sound and vision comfort me.
It prepareth a program for me, even in the presence of visitors.
Its volume shall be full.
Surely comedy and commercials shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in spiritual poverty forever."
Author unknown

We sometimes get wrapped up in things that are not important. If we are honest with ourselves, we could probably fit the above quote to some part of our lives.

In Christ,
John

in the garden eve saw that the apple looked good, felt nice to touch, even tasted good, yet it was poison to her soul, death(spiritually)

still today we see things that look good, feel nice to touch, and taste just as good, sin hadnt even entered the world when eve ate it,not til adam did , how much more the attraction is now, alot of "apples" hanging on that tree since adam and eve, man has been cultivating and keeping it flourishing since in many forms
all feel goods, look goods, taste goods all lead to the same spiritual death, seperation from God
day will come when not just the tree but the root will be cast into fire
hallelujah jesus

Not only are we to not love the world, we are to separate ourselves from the world. In fact the word for Holy means to be set apart. In my most recent blog on Jesus and the rich young ruler, I quoted something I heard Ron Blue say the other day:

"I never knew what I NEEDED until I got to the mall."

Do you take your take your cues for success and hapiness from the world or have you learned to "discipline your desires'?

Beside the TV we can put the computer on top of the cross and kneel down.
