It's figurative language - it was used in the prophecy against Edom:
Isa 34:4 And all the host of heaven will wear away, And the sky will be rolled up like a scroll; All their hosts will also wither away As a leaf withers from the vine, Or as one withers from the fig tree.
Isa 34:5 For My sword is satiated in heaven, Behold it shall descend for judgment upon Edom and upon the people whom I have devoted to destruction.

You opened the post by stating firmly what (you think) it means. Maybe next time, try something like, "I think it means that ..." and then invite discussion. A minor point perhaps, but if you truly want discussion, and not merely a forum to vent your viewpoint, your word choice does matter. 
As for the passage itself, I don't hold firmly to any particular view, but I'm inclined to think something in the multi-dimensional frame. Chuck Missler has done some good work on this.
