[SUP]26 [/SUP]And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
[SUP]28 [/SUP]For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ. Acts 18:26-28

And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. Acts 18:12

Ariel82, in response to your thread title, Prisca and Aquila taught Apollos in Acts. Many people argue that Prisca was 'subservient' to Aquila, but Paul puts her name first in more than one place. I'm away from my references at the moment but can post them later if you need them.

No it's cool, I was trying to figure the scripture tie in?

My husband has a degree in Mathematics and we are secure financially...only debt is our house and my car.

He isn't worry and I can get a job and pay for it if needed. Not worried about money. God always provided. Got scholarship, etc to pay for much of my college and we live simply. Grew up poor so my mom taught me how to budget, which i thank God for his many blessings.

Time wise, I would just be on this site less. I spend hours here everyday when I wrestle with scriptures, praying with folks, etc.

Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: Acts 16:3
And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow. Acts 18:18

the second that comes to mind for me, is Sarah, she certainly showed her husband
that she, with him, through God, could perform a miracle that would change
the whole world from that time on...

I will keep you in prayer sister. But if I may have you counted the cost? Not money wise but emotionally? Spiritually.
I know you have the kids and a loving hubby but the calling can bring you into a lot of decision you would have to make regarding family time, self time.

Potters!!!!! I have missed you. How have you been?

I have and that is another reason why I hesitate to jump in feet first, so I am taking baby steps.

Maybe I will finish all my classes in 7-10 years?

If I only take a couple classes a semester it shouldn't be that bad. Like when I got my teaching licensure. Plus the kids are in school so I can study then.

I believe God is already teaching me, but would like to study the Bible in Greek and Hebrew and more comprehensively.

I've been fine sis thanks for asking. Please don't get me wrong for what I'm about to say.
If the Lord calls you to ministry he will equip you. Remembering Isaiah, moses all of the brothers and sisters and of course the words of our Lord when he said give no heed to what you should wear, take eat, it will be provided.
Not knowing what land he will lead you into but just be faithful to follow.
You may not need any of the tools you seek in seminary then again let him open that door.
I'm so excited for you but caution you on these things remembering that he has given us the holy spirit as our helper.

Yes, many men who became great men of God were first taught about God from their mothers and grandmothers, I think Timothy was raised by a godly mother and grandmother. I first learned about God from my grandmother. Women have been very prolific in teaching men about God without even having to stand in a pulpit.

What makes the pulpit so special?

What exactly aren't women allowed to do?

Could they preach to a group of women outside in a park and men wander by and listen? Or is that just evangelism?

Are they allowed to minister to the sick, elderly, widows and orphans? I know that is the duty of some pastors.

Or is it just the preaching in the pulpit that is forbidden?

Where do people draw that line?

Your grandmother sounds like a true blessing in your life. Hope you hugged her today.

I wonder how often we do that IRL. Last January I was going to my brother's house and knew I was just south of Utah's hometown, so I waved at the north. lol

My grandmother has been gone for some time now, she was certainly a blessing to me. I have never preached from a pulpit even though I probably know the bible better then most who do. I don't really have any desire to do so unless the situation demanded it. I just never had any desire to be in authority over anyone else. I do like to share what I know from the bible and from personal experiences with God.

I believe that question is the root of whether women should or shouldn't be allowed to be pastors.

It's been on my mind because I believe God has called me to some type of ministry.

I am not sure what role it is but I know He has blessed me and expects me to bless others .

I know he will show me how to help others and where to go.

However, I also believe in using the Bible to test my feelings and innermost thoughts to see if they really are from God.

Right now I feel a call to ministry and have applied to become a Stephen minister.

.I believe going to Stephen ministry training is a good step....that's when you do one on one counseling with people who need prayer and someone to listen to them..men with men and women with women, so folks don't need to freak out about the word minister.

My question goes down to what duties within the church can a woman hold according to the Bible?

I know many people will throw man made traditions and history on both sides of the debate, but from the Bible what are we told?

I will pull what I wrote in another thread and ask your thoughts upon it.
Hi Ariel,

There were a few woman who were prophetesses in the Old Testament.

But the priests that ministered on a daily basis were all men.

Here are some of the duties of the priests that seems to be more like what the leaders of the church would do.

~ Teach the people. (Leviticus 10:8-11)
~ Serve as judges to resolve controversy. (Deut. 21:5)
~ Offer sacrifices. (Exodus 29:38-42)
~ Assess impurity. (Leviticus 13-15)
~ Burn incense. (Exodus 30:7-8)
~ Bless the people. (Numbers 6:22-27)
~ Bless God (Deuteronomy 10:8)
~ Keep the tabernacle. (Numbers 3:38; 4;16)
~ Take care of the altar (Leviticus 6:8-13), the lamps, and the

~ Prepare the holy things for each days journey. (Num. 4:5-15)
~ Continue the sacred fire. (Leviticus 6;12-13)
~ Blow the trumpets. (Numbers 10:1-10)

Old Hermit has a study in Titus going on where he's covering the question of women in the pulpit. You can find it here if interested. http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/151541-titus-study.html

Hmm, makes me think of King Lemuel's mother for some reason, and yet verse 3 is ironic.

Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
[SUP]30 [/SUP]Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
[SUP]31 [/SUP]Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
