... church?

... on here?

... in every day life?

(long version)
Recently, someone got into "I don't see the gospel preached." I get that. That's the heart of an evangelist.

I'm not an evangelist. (I know, because I usually can't get a sentence said to a nonbeliever without being shot down. I wish I could evangelize, but rarely am I able.) I'm also not a teacher.

I am here for purpose though, even when I lose sight of that purpose. And when I went to church I had purpose in that church too. My purpose wasn't 24/7, but I contributed and received, just like we're all supposed to do. At work? When I worked, it was all about helping the customer and the bosses. At home, it is roughly the same thing I do everywhere else.

This is where my heart is in asking today. I really am curious why people come here. And I'm curious because sometimes (often) I forget my purpose, so I'm checking to see if that's true for everyone. Or, more accurately, what percentage of time does it show?

What do you do for CC and for God when you come here? What do you do for your church and God when you go there? And what do you do in real life for God, people, employer/employees, family, and friends?

What is your purpose?
I can honestly say is I don't know anymore. When I first joined I was going through so much emotionally and came here for encouragement to remember all of God's promises. I gained a lot of friendships through one of the threads and somehow I got mixed up with one particular thread without my knowledge and was extremely hurt as a result so I deleted my previous account. The holy spirit spoke to me and said I wasn't done here and not exactly sure why so I came back. Since that time my life has progressed so much that I barely have time to do much of anything let alone come on here. But I will say I wouldn't be where God wants me if it wasn't for CC because it has helped me grow in him

Wow ..that's a good question(s). "Why I come here?" Primarily, I suppose its because I'm lonely lol. I'm in a situation where the company of good people really helps me to get by with what I'm doing. "Percentage of time " ? You mean here? I'd say a good 3 hrs. off and on in a day."What do I do for CC and God when I'm here"? In the week I've been here, I'm truly not sure what I've done FOR CC, other than being a part of it. "What do I do for God by being here" ? I try to be compassionate to those struggling, and try to remind them of the Good News ...that Christ died for ALL our sins and to remember that whatever happens bad to them Jesus sees and understands because It Happened To Him First. "What do I do for God when I go to church "? For God I offer up all praise through prayer and songs of worship, and work food bank on Tuesdays. And in real time for God? I write here at home and study Bible through Dr. Creasy on Logos and here on Christian Chat I learn a lot too because there seems to be many here who are learned by ways of the Bible and are good teachers. I don't work anymore but I'm here taking care of my husband who is fragile now. My earthly duty is to keep him comfortable during illness. Hope that covers questions well enough.

If you don't attend a modern church, do you attend an old church? lol

If your working that much your purposed for someone. Who do you work for -- your boss, the customer, or both?
hahaha i think i threw modern in there cause my idea of current churches stink of feel good preachers who would rather have a happy clueless crown than 7 believers with hard hitting questions

as for workin so much... i kinda just agreed to be used how ever much im needed if i can listen to my head phones (audio bible on youtube)

maybe the hours at work make it easier to keep my mind off bad stuff... less destraction while i can still try to see what God wants to show me amy given day

Jesus is always showing/teaching us what we have to 'get-over'../
irritation, resentment, self-pity, etc...

isn't He great to give us this opportunity/reality check, in order to become
more valuable to Him and others, and to show US, WHO we really ARE?!?!

we have 'loved' the HONESTY shown here, it has humbled us...TY...

I think the purpose for many of us has diminished because we keep debating the same old things over and over.
In the past, I've tried different type of threads that would edify the body of Christ.
And very few people would respond.
But talk about politics, and the arguments go on for days on end.
So where is the Christianity?
When the gun lobby gets on and talk about killing as a God given right and then start talking about all their guns and it becomes a gun club and if you speak out against them, they gang up on you and then want you thrown off the forum.

So I could go on but I guess what I'm saying is that negativity is dominant and prevalent in all Christian forums because nobody wants to talk about being good boys and girls all the time.
So we debate doctrine that couldn't possibly save us and talk politics like we have all the answers.
Because we don't know what else to do.
And I don't know what else to say about it.

You do it even though you don't want to. There is honor in that that not too many people have. And of course grouchy goes with that, but do you take it out on him or a nearby inanimate object? (We have containers hung up for onions, garlic and sweet potatoes. On one of my foul moods, that thing when flying -- 3-4 times. I still did what I had to do, but the negative did show up.)
At times, I get a little snippy in my remarks, but that's generally as bad as I let it get around my Dad. For the most part, I just stew in my frustration until I can have some time to myself and work through it by working outside, or being whisked away to someplace else in a book, or like I did last night where I played a war simulation video game for 4 solid hours.

I haven't talked to you yet, (only because I'm usually agreeing with you, or your questions aren't something I can respond to -- like how is my church), I've noticed you, and see you do know what you do here.

This is it:
"What do I do for God by being here" ? I try to be compassionate to those struggling, and try to remind them of the Good News ...that Christ died for ALL our sins and to remember that whatever happens bad to them Jesus sees and understands because It Happened To Him First.

Yup, you already do something here, and you're good at it, (I trust through God working in you, of course.)

Welcome to CC. Glad to have you. (Could be because we have similar purpose, so I noticed. And don't count on me for always being good at what God has me do. I sometimes forget God in what I do.
)

The reason I chuckled over "modern church" is because I'm sure my image of a modern church is OLD to you. (And, I'm talking buildings now -- churches built in the 1960s and 70s -- not the body. lol)

"Give what you want to get." That's an old adage that has helped me critique other writer's WIP. (Works in Progress.) It also works for just about anything else in life, including on here. After all, aren't we all WIP?

Don't like what's going on? Then don't encourage it. Want to contribute? Then be the you that God wants you to be.

This is very much about that -- not just for CC but for life in all ways. And, yup, you've probably noticed, I'm not good at it.

Want to know what I'd like to get out of here? Someone to remind me when I'm not being the me God wants me to be. That's why I give what I want to get. I'd love honesty. I get a lot of false judgement.

I'm a writer. I've never claimed to be a good writer. I'm just a writer. The only way I ever get to be a good writer is if people would tell me when I write something that's not good, and what is it about what I write that's not good. (Preferably even up to a better way to write the same thing.) Why am I talking about writing? Because my goals for writing are the same goals I have for following God -- get better with the help and guidance of others who are trying to get better. And, a funny thing happens when critiquing someone else's writing -- we start seeing how to improve ourselves too. (Again same with following God.)

"Give what you want to get."

If more of us are willing to go there/do that, then maybe there is less time to watch threads on politics turned into a religion and other assorted whatever-that-is. And yes, that starts inward, not pushing it onto other people, unless they ask. And, even if people don't ask for what I just asked for, then giving is still giving and "give what you want to get" is a good start on changing the direction on our attitudes.

Make sense?
 (Now that you understand I'm not a good writer, so have to ask. lol)

I see working outside as a place for you to see what is good in life. I love reading for the same reason you do -- it takes me away. And video games? Do we even need a reason? They're just fun! lol

But, one thing I've been learning is another place that regenerates my mind so the world doesn't close in on me. God's word. I know that seems like such a Christian cliche, but I challenge you to read Psalms. You'll enjoy it because David does a great job at slice-in-dice sometimes. (Slice-in-dice -- when you cut someone to shreds in words in ways that would leave you a bloody pulp if you ever said those words to a giant of a man. But it really does seem to feel better after giving great detail on what you'd like to happen to that person.) David let his angst out to God that way and it worked.

Better yet, it also reminded him how much he needed God so by the time he was done, it usually ended up praising God. Other times, it was all about God. (Psalm 24, for the most well-known Psalm all about God.) And it helps to know most of the Psalms were about God. (Something hubby just taught me. Peachy keen. I'm getting close to finishing Psalms now, so too late to see what he's talking about. lol)

Life can royally suck. But even in that, if we remember God's working on us, then it feels more like going outside to work. A good day! And a good way of not just shoving all the frustrations down further and further until they come out as poop at the other end. ;) (Language cleaned up on purpose there.)

AllenW, could you post a link of a thread you consider edifying that you started?

I tried to find where you talk about how to live a godly life, rejoice in God's love, fruit of the spirit, etc.... Because I love reading them.

However all I found was an Antichrist thread and one supporting Joel Osteen...

Psalms is certainly a good book to read when a person is frustrated with others to see how David pleaded his case and cause to God for justice. Another book I have found a great comfort recently is "The Confessions of Saint Augustine". Now...that was a man with some issues! He found God though, and through his letters to God, was able to put his life and all the torment of it into perspective.

What do you do for CC and for God when you come here? What do you do for your church and God when you go there? And what do you do in real life for God, people, employer/employees, family, and friends?

What is your purpose?

My purpose, eh?

In CC here, specifically in BDF, Unlike, WillieT, who likes to get to the "kids", before they "get religion"; mine is more geared to those "older people", in trying to show these misconceptions. Ya know what that's like? It be like handing an older person, who's been drinking tea, their whole religious lives, a glass of bourbon whiskey! Looks the very same as the tea does, in every way! Until, they drink it!

Perhaps, "strained carrots", as opposed to "prime rib", may reflect this more as being really, a necessity, as far as achieving salvation is concerned. But, trading in the tea, for the bourbon? THAT, is a choice! And not one I can DO, for someone else! I CAN show, there is stronger stuff out here, but, I can't and WON'T force ya to take that 2nd pull from the glass. And?....Neither will God!

I reckon another purpose, for me being here, is giving credit where credit is due! Although, Jesus is the beginning of one's eyes becoming open; the credit, and praise actually belongs to the Lord of the Harvest! Ya see?...LOOKS, the same as tea...Only stronger!

You might like Charles Surgeon too. The man had chronic depression, but he'd find gems in mere portions of scripture for devotionals. (Warning though. He did NOT like "Papists"/Catholics.)

Ah. I've got a volume of the "Researchers Guide to Ancient Literature" that has some selected sermons of Spurgeon in it. No problem for him not liking Catholics. I don't take that personally. I'm okay with being known as a "Catholic sympathizer" around here, since I realize that there are probably less than a dozen people on Earth who truly HATE Catholics, and the rest just hate what they "think" Catholicism is...which isn't what they rant about. Dirt off the shoulder.

Funny you should say that. Had turkey bolognese tonight. The base is garlic, onions, celery, mushrooms and carrots pureed. So I can't say I'm against them.
