(short version)

... church?

... on here?

... in every day life?

(long version)
Recently, someone got into "I don't see the gospel preached." I get that. That's the heart of an evangelist.

I'm not an evangelist. (I know, because I usually can't get a sentence said to a nonbeliever without being shot down. I wish I could evangelize, but rarely am I able.) I'm also not a teacher.

I am here for purpose though, even when I lose sight of that purpose. And when I went to church I had purpose in that church too. My purpose wasn't 24/7, but I contributed and received, just like we're all supposed to do. At work? When I worked, it was all about helping the customer and the bosses. At home, it is roughly the same thing I do everywhere else.

This is where my heart is in asking today. I really am curious why people come here. And I'm curious because sometimes (often) I forget my purpose, so I'm checking to see if that's true for everyone. Or, more accurately, what percentage of time does it show?

What do you do for CC and for God when you come here? What do you do for your church and God when you go there? And what do you do in real life for God, people, employer/employees, family, and friends?

What is your purpose?

My purpose overall?

Is to have a personal relationship with God.
...because l want to, not because l feel as though l have to.

I believe that's the purpose of life for everyone.

Everything else comes along day to day. An opportunity to chat about God, moments to help others.
For me, being at peace comes from giving up control and not stressing out from what l believe were missed opportunities in all areas of my life.

I'm just a regular guy finding his way through life.
I don't know much, but l do know that l feel unproductive sitting around thinking about how I'm not being productive enough.
I get up and start moving...He usually leads from there.

When I 1st came here I was in a different place in my walk with Christ. The place was not good. I wasn't really an inspiration to anybody, and was too judgemental, battling anxieties, and arguing doctrines in an unloving way.

The patience shown by not a few of you, and helping me grow in my faith in so many ways is truly humbling.

I don't comment as often as I used to. 2 subjects usually catch my eye. Grace vs. works and predestination vs. free will. One of them I am totally at peace with. The other not so much.

I also want to help others, as I was helped, in various struggles and attacks they encounter.

For today, my purpose is to encourage Robin!

Hey Robin, remember that brothers and sisters sometimes don't get along, but I'm sure you know we/they love you! Have a blessed day!

Same for me. Pretty horrified by how I was when I first got here.

As for the OP, not sure I really add much of anything in all areas mentioned -_-

Interesting question, a short answer would be, like finding a treasure then burying it.

I have a desire to confront much of the traditional misconceptions I was raised with, and have had to unlearn as Jesus has begun to open my eyes.

Some time ago, I was impressed with being told to "Feed my Lambs." Not sheep, LAMBS.

My heart is more for teens and young adults than it is for older people. I have a very strong (almost passionate) desire that no young person ever get bogged-down and mired in the muck of Religion so many of us were inculcated with.

When I contest or confront certain "teachings", it is my hope that everyone listens, but I know many older people aren't going to. I accept that. But, if even one young person is inspired to think about the Bible for themselves because of my obstinate refusal to simply believe what I was once told to accept, then I feel God smiles upon my efforts.

I agree....sometimes it is the unlearning of some of our religious teachings and traditions that takes time to root them out of the strongholds in our mind.

When someone holds the knife to the throat of one of our sacred cows of our church or denominational teachings - the "gnashing of teeth" can be seen and the "fur" can fly as malice gets activated in our flesh..

Other way around. Not "purpose over all." Purpose for being with others, and I listed which others -- here, church and IRL.

Other way around. Not what you get. What do you give? What's your purpose? (Here, in church, in regular life.)

Is there something in the air then? I was much more belligerent when I first came here. (And for anyone who thinks I'm belligerent now, make no mistake, I still am at times, so imagine how bad "much more" looked.) It's not age changing my ways.

But what is your purpose? What do you give? (You're kind of quiet -- okay maybe only next to me -- so I really don't know.)

And I really can't say for anyone but Ed. And Ed? His purpose seems to be the calming factor, albeit, I don't know if he thinks that's his purpose.

Would it be ok for people to just not mention it even if they know it.

Would be nice if our purpose could always be Gods purpose, after hanging out with God for a while our purpose becomes his purpose more and more. Getting in the habit in the morning when waking of asking God what we can do for Him instead of what is He going to do for us.
My purpose means dung, Its Gods purpose that is real. God sent Jesus to show us His purpose.

Thank you! Now I get what you're trying to do.

And I also get why we butt heads so often. Similar goals, but different expectations of outcome.

That won't change either of us, but at least I see why we butt heads now. And you do Willie well!

Sure. Part of what I'm getting out of this is to see the differences. But I'm also fine with someone not publicly saying it. I really am also suggesting we think about our purpose.

One of the things that traps me sometimes is thinking I have to have everyone else's purpose too. Very frustrating when I get on a thread that's outside my purpose. Not only for me, but everyone else, because I keep thinking "everything is my purpose." :(

That's the idea. If we are his children, he purposed us for all aspects of life. But he purposed each for different things, so we don't have to think we're doing it all. We're doing our part.

(And then there is the problem of trying to do it all, or trying to get others to do our part, simply because it's OUR part. lol)
