T.F. Torrance espoused a theology called "Trinitarian Theology".

I am wondering if anyone here has ran across this, and if they can explain it to me succinctly.

"Trinitarian Theology" does not relate to proving the Trinity doctrine. The Trinity doctrine is assumed, and all real evangelicals believe in it.

My understanding is that Trinitarian Theology relates to how the doctrine of Trinity is extended to the other areas of Christianity, but I do not understand the essence of the teaching.

Any comments by someone who is familiar with Torrance's teachings would be appreciated.

Again, there is no question that the Trinity doctrine is biblical. This thread relates to the teachings of TF Torrance and some other theologians who have examined how the Trinity doctrine extends into the rest of theology.

Torrance's theology is Christ-centered theology. He taught that the disunifying of Christ from the Spirit makes for a defective Trinitarian theology and a flawed understanding of grace. Grace is personal, not impersonal or mechanical. When the Holy Spirit is seen as detached from the person and work of Jesus Christ, grace becomes just an impersonal spiritual power....instead of the divine dynamic function of God the Father, by the Son Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.

I can't see how his view would be different than the Reformed view on the Trinity. The three Persons of the Triune God share the same essence, so you can't separate the Holy Spirit from either the Father or the Son essentially. Therefore, the Holy Spirit dwelling in the believer is the same as the Father and Son dwelling in the individual.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I can't see any difference in your remarks and the simple assertion that the three Persons are co-essential, which should be believed by all who affirm the Trinity.

 Ummmmm, you didn't ask how his view differed from the reformed view, and that wasn't the question I was answering.

OK. I'm guessing all Christians who truly understand the Trinity doctrine would understand what Torrance believed on that topic then.
