Its been on my mind a lot.

With the bickering that constantly happens in CC.

What did Jesus mean by loving our enemies?

Is it possible when we don't even love our brethren in Christ?

I don't know. I just feel discouraged and in need of prayer.

Prayers for you Ariel, that God would strengthen your heart, which is already quite strong, and shows much fruit of the Spirit in gentleness, kindness, and self control. I think we all know and understand how discouraging it can be, not only just to be witness to the attacks one to another, but also to be the target of such unwarranted attacks ourselves. Only the full armor and counsel of God can help us lean more fully on Him. May He be a steady Light as you walk your path, guiding your steps with the faultless inner voice of Love. May your patience endure, and add to the wisdom you willingly share. Trust your clarity in Him. His love never fails, while ours often does.

All laws and commands are kept by the Holy Spirit through "The Law Of The Spirit Of Life In Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:2).

Paul also makes it very clear in Romans 8:10 that the physical body, mind / intellect, and the heart (which is evil - Jeremiah 17:9) has been rendered helpless because of the original sin; consequently, the Believer trying to overcome by willpower presents a fruitless task. Only the Holy Spirit can mortify the deeds of the flesh and make us what we ought to be (Romans 8:13). This means we cannot do it ourselves. Once again, He performs all that He does within the confines of the Finished Work of Christ (Romans 8:2).

If a Christian will and their efforts to live for God is in anything except Christ and the Cross, i.e., Finished Work, The Blood of Jesus (Romans 8:2), Satan can override your will and force you to do things you don't want to do and trying not to do (Ephesians 6:12). Jesus said deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow me (Luke 9:23).

Remember our bodies are dead and useless to God. The heart is prone to wander away from God's love and eat from "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil." The reason why the body is dead is because of the effects of the fall has made us totally incapable of yielding spiritual obedience on a regular basis (Jeremiah 13:23). So there must be a source outside of myself that helps me to enter into sanctification which is the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:13).

If I'm honest, I struggle with this. The way I am is that, I would be willing to give anyone the last of what I had, whether I like them or not. All they'd have to do is ask. BUT, when it comes to my feelings for them as human beings, I struggle not to think negatively of them. I struggle to treat them with respect. My mouth will often runaway with me against them. At the same time, the very same people I do this with, if they needed me for ANYTHING, and it was within my power, it would be theirs.

So I end up torn internally about them. It sickens me to see how I act toward people at times, and as much as I would love to say I love them perfectly, I can't. So for me, the answer really isn't as black and white as the poll would suggest it should be. I try with all my might to treat people how they should be treated, even if they are proponents of false teachings. I think they should be combated, but not hated.

I love Satan. Which means I have no enemies. He has been there for me before. It was God who made me to love him.

I haven't the slightest idea how to read 2nicee's post, but I cannot agree with 4th's post. Sure, I can say that I would give MY last (whatever) to an enemy.......... BUT, would I give my CHILD's last.... of anything. No, I cannot say that I would.

If the choice is between my child starving, or an enemy starving, that enemy is just out of luck.

I. Waiver between option 2 and 3 a lot.

I don't love them but pray that God help,me learn to love them.

I believe option 3 is where God wants us to be,but some days I am not there.

I actually agree with you here. I meant materialistically and it was within my power, unless is jeopardized my child. But at the same time, I would recon this as a lack of faith in God as a perfect provider and would feel guilt.

nicee,
Is this some sort of test or are you serious?

Do you want us to pray for you?

Not sure what you mean by test? Could definitely use prayers though. Always in need of that. I was just trying to express myself honestly. Sorry if it came off any other way.

I believe its hard for any person to fully love a enemy. But its also how are you defining a enemy?

Like a brother in Christ who interprets scripture differently than me or

A muslim that wants kill me for being an infidel.

I would say i have a lot more love to someone who believes differently compared to one who wants to kill me.

And is the love your enemy like love your children type love or just treat your enemy with respect like Jesus treated the salesmen in the temple court or the Pharisees when they kept being deceitful.

We are to love our enemies in that we do not want any harm to come to them, regardless of how they act towards us,or act in general. We only want good for them, and let God handle them. The Bible says feed and clothe your enemies, and in so doing you will heap coals of fire on their head.

The Bible says follow peace with all people, and holiness, without which no person shall see the Lord, and follow peace with all people,as much as lies in you.

Our levels of love will be different towards people, but we have to love them, and follow peace with them,as much as lies in us.

Some people we can say hello to them, but we do not want to shake their hand,or hug them, but we are still following peace with them.

Some people we can shake their hand, but do not want to hug them.

Some people we can hug them.

We love people no matter how they act, wanting no harm to come to anybody, but only want good for them, and we let God handle them, for they are His property.

Pro 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
Pro 25:22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

Rom 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

With the debating, and people at odds with each other,do they hate the person that they are odds with.Do they want the best for them, and want no ill for them.

I don't give a person enough thought to consider them an enemy. They'd have to earn that title, and the majority of folks just don't pass muster.

Yeah, we wouldn't worry what people thought of us if we only knew how seldom they do.

Absolutely that is the ideal and definitely we should struggle for that ideal...at this point though
the human condition is less than perfect but should not dwell in that but rather trust God that Hi
will lead us there one day.
