What Bible's?

Hello, I've been trying to look into the most appropriate Bible for both accuracy and meaning. But find the KJV is laid out the best but not as accurate. I like it's number layout etc. The NIV is too lengthy and cheap in layout for me. The ESV is a nice size and nice content explanation etc, but awful in number layout. It's paragraph layout so verse remembering is near impossible.

Without having to buy every Bible on the market, does anyone know the most accurate, best laid out, decent meaning Bible that is translated properly. As none of my Bibles have the word slave for Jesus, they have servant. That's not accurate apparently.
I just want a decent, truthful Bible. Is it too much to ask? Is there one?

Why not download all the versions you like through eSword.net? Whenever I'm not sure of the wording in one version, a simple click takes me to another (and another and another.)

Added bonus: You can also download Bible aids to see if that info on you have with Jesus being a slave or servant. (I'm thinking salve and servant were interchangeable back then, since The Law given to Moses had slaves, and yet, to what we know, it was closer to an indentured servant. You can't quit your job, but at least you were free within 7 years or less, so it's kind of both. Then again, been a while since I studied that concept, so I'm foggy on the details. A Bible aid can get you the details.) All for free! (Although, I think it is good we donate something to eSword just for giving that much away.)

Since each version comes in different layouts, sizes, colors, covers, page thickness, notes, etc giving an answer off of that is pointless. I've seen the NIV in all sorts of variations. Same with KJV and all the others.

As far as your next question prepare for war. Everyone has a different opinion. There is no way to get definitive answers on this, perhaps just a narrowing down.
But this 'decent, truthful' statement seems excessive. Many of them are quite good.
And if you're really That worries then you should begin learning the languages the bible was written in.

The most decent truthful Bible is the Bible in Greek... every translation will have something bad...

Dont you want to try electronic bibles in some kind of e-book reader? It will be probably easier than to buy a full library of printed translations... And if you will not like it, you can just push "delete"

I think that the word you are talking about can be translated both as "servant" and "slave", so it is not a translation error, its just about our view/theology...

Its true that it is quite difficult to memorize verses while using many translations...

Just had a look a Matthews gospel. Uhh yep. Too many copyrighted altered versions or whatever. No information on accuracy or Bible layout. Unless I study each Bible. I thought the blue letter Bible was online only though?

You can change the background to less-bright in most apps.

And if I click on verse 7, then click on tab after tab, it will show me verse 7 in each tab. It will also tell me what Gill, Clarke, Matthew Henry, and JFB says about verse 7, if I click on the connected commentaries.

(Honestly? Hubby was the book guy before computers came into our life, but he was surrounded by 2 feet by 4 feet of books all over his sofa and coffee table to get all that info. You should see the size of Strong's Concordance! You could bust a foot if it fell onto it. Those books are big, bulky, and never ending. Even he eSwords now. lol)

There's only two choices:

1. KJV
2. All other versions

Stick with the KJV...check out the chart below that helps explain what line of manuscripts they come from.

Dai3234, find a Bible version which works for you and which you will read. If you prefer "slave" for "doulos", great. However, since you already know that "slave" is the correct translation, why worry about it? There is no guarantee that a translation which gets that right gets everything else right.

If you don't want "copyrighted altered versions" then you are free to do what the scholars did to get their versions -- find the earliest MSS and do the translating yourself.

Dai3234, find a Bible version which works for you and which you will read. If you prefer "slave" for "doulos", great. However, since you already know that "slave" is the correct translation, why worry about it? There is no guarantee that a translation which gets that right gets everything else right.

It's more to do with the message not being softened intentionally as nearly all Bibles are. It's disappointing there isn't a Goodspeed​ updated full bible and not just a NT. So I'll just try a Thompson NKJV Greek ultraslim. Think it's about the same size as the ESV I have. But with new text translation. Hopefully its the same layout. My last Bible I think, until new scrolls are found, he. Saw a Bible for £120, mmm no.

Kjv, I mean NASB, I mean NIV, or maybe ESV; how about NLT or NKJV ....etc

This is the million dollar question that no one can really answer. The one I never open is the KJV because I don't speak that outdated language or dialect. I kinda swap from NKJV and NASB and every now and then read from the NLT. I even think I have a MEV that I stare at on the bookshelf sometimes.

I am also old fashion where I don't like digital versions. I do have programs but just use those when I need a quick reference.

This has probably already been posted because I haven't read all the posts but why don't you go to Biblegateway.com and you can look up all the options of bible translations and paraphrases. Of course you are asking for an accurate bible so you may want to stay clear of the paraphrased one's then. I use New International Version , New king James, King James, New American Standard Bible, and I also read the voice as a paraphrased version for highlight points. You have already eliminated NIV, and I believe the KJV kind of, I would suggest the NASB then.

Went to the bookstore, they had a pink zipped esv mini, KJV standard, esv standard, that I have, good news Bible, catholic Bible I think, n that's it except new testament and Psalms etc KJV. So layout, you can't choose unless you know what the layout is called. What is the KJV layout called? Number, column, channel notes, number, column etc? Don't know what the difference is between catholisized and anglicised either?

I don't think there are terms describing the layout, but certainly the versions have nothing to do with layout.
and there is no such thing as a "KJV" layout. The versions are about the text content, the layout is about what the fonts, chapters etc looks like and have nothing to do with each other. (ie, I may quote a verse from the king James version using several different layouts)

Im not KJVonly but in my opinion its the best bible out there in english, I like it the most and its the only bible I own in english language.

Its easy to read, you can see what words were added cause they are in italics, you can see the thee thy ye etc, which helps to make out if its singular or many people, since in regular english you could be multiple people or just one person.

So those among other reasons is why I think King James Bible is the king of english bible translations.

Probably the biggest objection to the KJV is that it's not easy to read.

Your "easy to read" comment, then, isn't a good way to gain credibility.
