No repentance means no salvation. The Greek word for "repent" is "metanoia" (noun) and "matanoeo" (verb) you see as defined in the Strongs #3340, 3341: to think differently or afterwards, reconsider. After thought, change of mind. Repentance basically means a "change of mind" and the context must determine what is involved in this change of mind. Where salvation is in view, repentance actually precedes saving faith in Christ and is not a totally separate act from faith. It is actually the same coin with two sides. Repentance is on one side, what you change your mind about and faith in Christ is on the positive side, the new direction of this change of mind. *Repentance and faith are two sides of the same experience of being brought to Christ.

In the context of Luke 13:3, Jesus challenged the people's notion that they were morally superior to those who suffered in such catastrophes. He called all to repent or perish. For some people though, prior to coming to the end result of repentance in receiving salvation (faith in Christ), they must change their minds about other specific things in order to get there. Repentance, metanoia, focuses on changing one's mind about his previous concept of God (as in Acts 17:30) and disbelief in God or false beliefs (polytheism and idolatry) about God (see 1 Thessalonians 1:9). On the other hand, this change of mind, focuses on the new direction that change about God must ultimately take, namely, trusting in Jesus Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation.

Certain people misunderstand the term "repentance" to simply mean "turning from sin" or "completely stop sinning." That is not the Biblical definition of repentance. In the Bible, the word "repent" means to "change your mind." The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions. Acts 26:20 declares, "I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds." This is the fruit of repentance (Matthew 3:8), not the essence of repentance (change of mind). Certain people confuse the "fruit of repentance" with the "essence of repentance" (and also do the same thing with faith) and end up teaching salvation by works.

I have heard certain people say, "If you want to be saved, repent of your sins, turn from your sins." If turning from your sins means to stop sinning, then people can only be saved if they stop sinning. And in that case, it is unlikely that anyone will be saved, since we don't know anyone who has ever "completely stopped sinning."

Repentance is to turn from sins and back to God. its defined in the ot, God began offering after the people had provoked Him to anger by disregarding His word in the ot repentance was only granted to isreal , through Christ repentance has been granted to anyone who believes. gentile, jew no matter because of Faith. the first mention of repentance is cain the final example is found in revelation. we should be praying for repentance, and actively turning from our sin because of all the warnings. the change is to the mind because our mind leads to our actions

its a basic principle according to hebrews and The first statement when Jesus began His ministry " repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is near."

God is the one who works in our lives and helps us to feel sorrow into repentance unto salvation.

It is a work: God's work in us

If one does not repent of sin, feel sorry for the evil one has done and commit to walk
righteously, why is there any hope you will walk with Jesus.

Jesus is all about righteous walking in love. Walking in sin is rebellion against this walk
and makes fun of it.

A behaviour of a believer I found strange. They claimed because someone was weak and
vulnerable they had to take advantage of them and hurt them. It was so odd because they
claimed to know Jesus and minister His word and Spirit to other people.

To me you cannot be more deluded to believe you know Christ and behave like this, they
are polar opposites of each other.

But this individual I think never accepted they had to repent of their sins or feel sorrow
about the evil they had done.

We know for sure that we must repent when we first come to Christ, which means we are sorry for our sins, and ask God to forgive us of all we done wrong, and want to abstain from sins from thereon, and have a Christlike lifestyle.

We have to allow the Spirit to lead us,and want to abstain from sin,and hate sin,and represent goodness, which if we do sin then we must give it up,and not hold unto it,and allow the Spirit to lead us.

It is not sin that causes us not to be right with God,in the sense that we can get rid of it,and continue in the Spirit,it is holding unto sin that puts us in the wrong position, for some might hold unto it,but they know it is wrong, and will get rid of it,but some hold unto sin thinking it does not affect their relationship with Christ, which they are not approaching the danger zone, but the are in it.

There are some that go through their walk with Christ, and want to represent goodness, and if they sin,get rid of it,and continue in His goodness, for they know it is wrong to hold unto sin,and then there are people that hold unto sin thinking they are alright, and they are the ones that cannot inherit eternal life if they do not correct that type of belief, and must realize they have to abstain from sin,and know it is wrong and they are not right with God.

But do we repent after the initial repenting, and is there scriptures that say we do.

The Churches that Jesus addressed in Revelation, and this is what He said concerning them.

Church in Ephesus.

Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

They have fallen, and Jesus said repent, and addresses their works.

Church in Pergamum.

Rev 2:13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Jesus said repent, and addresses their works.

Church in Thyatira.

Rev 2:19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
Rev 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Rev 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
Rev 2:22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
Rev 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Repent,works.

Church in Sardis.

Rev 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Rev 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Rev 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Repent, works not found right before God.If works are not important why does Jesus stress to do them, and Jesus addresses all the Churches according to their works.

Church in Laodecia.

Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Repent,works not right.

And mind you these are people that God is working with to cause them to see the truth, for Jesus said repent, and they will be right with God.

When Jesus addressed the Churches, and their works were not right,He said repent, and do the right works, and they will be alright.

Jesus is addressing people that God is working with to cause to see the truth, for Jesus says repent,do right, and they will be right with God,but those who do not repent, then they are not right with God,for Jesus said, except you repent, and turn from your wrongdoing, you are not in a position for salvation.

Or does it not count if Jesus said it,for it must come from Paul.I should have posted what Paul said, for they might not believe what Jesus said.

It amazes me how many people continue to have no idea what "repent" means, and simply equate it with Catholic Mass confession time...... tell the priest you're sorry, and do some penances.

Amen
It actually minimizes sin and what Jesus did to overcome it by just saying a simple apology will take care of sin then move a long til next time.

[SUP]23 [/SUP]And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
[SUP]24 [/SUP]But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
[SUP]26 [/SUP]And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
[SUP]27 [/SUP]And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Matthew 12:23-28

Repent from what? To what?

Turn from what? to what?

Its not an apology. Its not an attempt to be good.

Its turning from your own work and your own ways and turning to Christ and His Power.

Matthew 11:28 is Repentance. Salvation is Repentance. You can't do it. So you quit. And you turn to God and ask Him to do it. And He does more than you can think or imagine.

Ephesians 3:20-21
[FONT=&quot]20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.[/FONT]
