When the Bible speaks of 'for a helmet the hope of salvation' it is telling us that one way in which we defend ourselves against the attacks of the enemy is by keeping before us the confident and certain hope of our ultimate salvation in glory. Whom He justified them He also glorified (Rom 8.29-30).

We are saved from the penalty of sin when we are justified (counted as righteous by God), We are saved from the presence of sin when we are glorified. In between we are being saved from the power and grip of sin (sanctification). Our justification ensures both our sanctification and our final glorification.

So, if I were to keep living in sin... I'd go to Heaven anyway, right?

If that were true, I could go out and get drunker than Cooter Brown tonight and the Lord would still be well pleased with me and I wouldn't need to confess and forsake my sin and it's all good!

No, because one who is truly justified by the righteousness of Christ has also died to sin in Him. (Rom 3.21-6.21)

If that were true, I could go out and get drunker than Cooter Brown tonight and the Lord would still be well pleased with me and I wouldn't need to confess and forsake my sin and it's all good!
If and when you come to know Jesus Christ and receive His righteousness on your account, you will no longer have pleasure in sinning or the will to do so.

They have died to sin, but their flesh is not convinced. Read Rom 3.21-6.23.

Romans 6:21 has the answer to that flawed logic --- what fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed?

Here's a funny joke ---

Mr. Smith climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God.

Looking up, he asks the Lord.

"God, what does a million years mean to you?"

The Lord replies, "A minute."

Smith asks, "And what does a million dollars mean to you?"

The Lord replies, "A penny."

Smith asks, "Can I have a penny?"

The Lord replies, "In a minute."

I'm not in favor of willingly and knowingly committing sin of any kind... I'm waiting on the guy to say we are perfect after getting saved and never sin and those that do sin were never saved in the fist place.

You know, the false grace garbage that's deceived millions.

I don't think anyone is in favor of "willingly and knowingly committing sin". But the fact of the matter is that over the course of our lifetime, we do have a tendency to stumble in our walk with the Lord. Do you think it is a surprise to God when we sin after we have been born again? Scripture tells us no one is perfect.

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts:and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness;that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins,and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God;and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence;and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;

Commit sin......we are sinners from the get go.

Mine just says "the helmet of salvation"

Ephesians 6:10-18New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Good point ....Paul not only says saved by Grace...He also says we are saved by the hope you are talking about the hope yet seen that spurs us forward in Christ

romans 8:24 ".For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?"

There's a reference to the helmet of the hope of salvation in 1 Thess 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Kind of like the sinless perfectionism spewed by Pharisees
