He steals, kills, and destroys... especially concerning those that he thinks God is using in a big way.

Does it really matter what nutjob wants to do???

Its only left to speculation. This is the only book and verse to mention this.

So in context what can we understand from this passage? Thats what we need to look at.

makes me think of the dead body of Elijah bringing life back to the dead. if there was power like that in Elijah it only makes sense this same power was in the body of Moses. maybe Satan wanted to use this power for evil.

I believe to possess it so as to lead the children of Israel astray....same way he possesses the beast that takes the deadly head wound at the end of the age.....

We also know that God killed and had an angel hide the body of Moses seemingly for this exact reason..Deut 34:5

Satan opposes God. The fact that God buried Moses in an unmarked grave confirms He didn't want the body found. Likely the reason was to prevent the grave from becoming a shrine, since the Israelites struggled with idolatry.

So if we base it only on these facts that we know, the motives of satan can be seen.

Some say satan (the accuser) was protesting a future resurrection of Moses.

But I think the lesson to be learnt is actually in how Michael dealt with satan....

Jude 5-9: "But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

I have always thought it was for his reason too. Look at John the Baptist. He still has followers today. People still go to his, supposedly, tomb and worship him. I believe this may have happened also with Moses, but on a greater scale. However, let me end this with, it's all speculation. =)

Seriously though, does it really matter why? I mean, it's Satan. He's the enemy. We don't have to know why. However, God did want us to know about it, or He wouldn't have put it in His book. So the question is, what can we learn from this verse?

Here's one leason... We don't have to argue with Satan. Just rebuke him. We see Jesus in the desert quote scripture, He didn't argue. When Satan spoke thru Peter, Jesus didn't argue with him. He just said, "get thee behind me, Satan!" Here we see the angel not arguing, but just rebuking.

im not aware of any scriprture of Israel worshiping tombs. had they done that you would think ththey would have made big elaborate tombs suitable for worship, where are they today? why was it ok to have a tomb for Elijah?

I believe the devil wanted the body of Moses so that they could make a shrine out of it. Imagine the people that would go to his grave site because of the law of Moses. The devil uses the law of Moses to condemn people and to try to live by the law of Moses instead of the life of Christ in us.

He would use the body of Moses to perpetuate living from works-righteousness which nullifies the grace of God in Christ from operating in our lives like it was meant to do.

Thank God Michael stopped it.

Where does it say that God killed Moses? It looks like that God knew that he would die because he wasn't going into the promised land because of his unbelief. I don't see where God killed him.

Deuteronomy 34:5 (NASB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

To continue to promote the flesh without the spirit.Walking by sight rather than by faith, the unseen Holy Spirit.

Perhaps the body of Moses is figuratively spoken of in Jude1:9 as meaning the Law of Moses.

John 5:45
Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

Matthew 22:24
Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

1 Corinthians 10:2

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

i agree. :)

and perhaps if the children of Israel had had Moses' body, they would have taken it with them into the promised land.

which the Lord had decreed Moses would not enter?

Deuteronomy 34:5 (NASB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP]So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

I see that as shown in a parable below. The reason he did not enter the Promised Land by faith is because he was walking according to the letter of the law.(walking by sight)

Signs are for those who rebel. The spiritual meaning as that not seen was hid from them as it is in every parable. Striking, smoting the Rock which represents Christtwice would be double jeapordy like those in Hebrews 6 as if one sacrifice was not sufficent and Christ had to be crucified again and again

And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. Num 20:11

It’s a picture of the father striking or bruising the Son in mutual submission to one another

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

I believe the Holy Spirit used that parable to help emphasize the spiritual not seen, the faith principle. Moses represented the law of God it was not in respect to him. Striking the rock which represent Christ twice means he took the matter into his own hand. As the scriptures informs us... Because Moses believed Christ not, to sanctify him in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Striking the rock which represented Christ in which the water flowed from is the picture of the water of the gospel or the water of the word as the doctrines of God that do fall like rain from heaven.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Christ fulfilled that law as to the letter of it .That law will not be apart of the new heaven and earth but rather the law of faith as that not seen will be. It is why Moses who typifies the law of God did not enter the promised land .

In the end we compare the spiritual not seen to the spiritual not seen, or faith to faith

Maybe because Moses will be brought back to life as one of the two witnesses along with Elijah during the Tribulation. Elijah is yet to die but was caught up.

there were 400 years between malichi and matthew, during those times the jewish people kept a written record of the things that happened. the mcabees have alot of insight into some things we arent given in scripture. while i dont look at it as biblical, the jewish records are trustworthy as well in my own opinion, some of those writings shed light on subjects like this.
