Pastor John Piper adresses the point many people ask where evil comes from, I like his answer that the abscence of God is what causes evil, thoughts? Please whatch it if you can before commenting, I'd like to keep discussion based on what is said on the video, especially the Isaiah text.

The bible does not tell us when Satan first had a desire for evil, so any human thought in that direction would be human speculation. We are told by the bible what the sin of Satan was(he manipulated and changed the word of God), yet we are not really told WHY. There are those who believe Isaiah and Ezekiel tell us why Satan did what He did, however that to is speculation.

I was thinking about our perception of Light and darkness.

Darkness and shadow are caused by something blocking the light from reaching us.

If there is something or someone blocking us from having a personal relationship with God, that would be evil.

It makes me ask: why would God be absent?

I dont think God is ever truly absent, but I know as a parent we give our kids the illusion of absence to foster independence.

Maybe God does the same to us? He steps back and sees if we can walk without clinging to His hand.

Also we have the parable about the vineyard keepers and the owner leaving to a far country and how those corrupt owners killed his servants and eventually the heir. One wonders why the owner left?

I don't know, but It is definitely something to ponder.

didnt watch the video

but based on my understanding

power can cause vanity

i think thats why we are to be meek reguardless of how "mighty" we are

he was given a seal of perfection
made beautiful
made powerful
given some form of authority

i think rather than serve he wanted to rule

didnt accept his role

(just random thoughts)

There is a contradiction it appears in the universe.
God is the source of all reference points and it is He who defines that which is good and
that which is evil.

There is a doubt that can come into this discussion. What if God is wrong and there is
another way?

Some ideas can then take hold, and lead to rebellion, though they are founded just in
delusion.

So the serpent said to eve, will you die, because you will become like God knowing
good and evil. So extra information was suggested that might resolve the issue of
death, so questioning the honesty of God.

God in His nature desires to bring about love in beings, that they might know what it
is to rise above, to be appropriate, to overcome because in overcoming one turns the
mortal into the eternal.

So in satans world domination and manipulation for selfish ends is King, because through
this it is hoped power can be established. But inevitably such kingdoms are destroyed
by their warring parts and resolution or balance is never established only partial truce
awaiting the next conflict or attempt to overthrow.

How in all creation does the Lord separate out that which chooses this way from the
opposite and follow the Lords heart? By allowing it to exist and grow, and to cause a
divide, so the consequences can be clearly seen.

As one can see in human existance, the desire to self justify is so strong, even total
contradictions of belief can be held even when they destroy the very foundational beliefs
the group holds to, because it is established to reassure them and maintain where they are
not bring about reality or truth.

So I can see how lucifer fell, because the trap is so enticing, he believed it made sense, though
it was always doomed. Once he had fallen there was no way back, other than to represent for
God the alternative reality within Gods creation and weed out the goats from the sheep.

Jesus said that Satan did not STAY in the truth, so that tells us that Satan was once in the truth of God. The bible itself does not tell us that Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 are descriptions of Satan the Devil, so I leave them alone. I have always been amazed at the total lack of respect and lack of fear of God that Satan demonstrates in Genesis 3. Why would Satan not be afraid to speak and act in the way that he did? It makes no sense that one of God's created Beings would not be afraid to do what he did. Also, he got a swift pronouncement of Judgment against himself for doing it. Also, the powers that Satan has are something to consider, he DREW a third of the angels and did CAST them to the earth, what Satan did with the angels is like a man who set out a net and caught the fish and drew them to shore. It looks like those angels were more captured by Satan rather then volunteered to go with him. Satan is a great mystery, the bible explains some things about him, however the bible does not explain him.
