What do you think it means to abide in Jesus? How do we abide in Jesus?

john 15:7- 11" 7If ye abide in me, and MY WORDS ABIDE IN YOU, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10If ye KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, YE SHALL ABIDE in my love; even AS I HAVE KEPT my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."

I believe that abiding in Jesus, is to abide in His teachings, as it was before He came...only now we have the holy spirit to give us freedom to do so willingly and without seeing it as oppression like " man i have to do what God says now?" but rather "This is who I am, Jesus made it so. let me learn from Jesus that i may honor His ransom"

Abide means to dwell in His presence through filling our minds with His Word, trusting Him, and letting Him transform our hearts to be more like His. It's a continual act of surrendering ourselves to Him on a daily basis.

Yes, a good post ChristCenteredGirl ! "Abide in Me." (John 15:4).

Think of the things that take you out of abiding in Christ - "Yes, Lord, just a minute, I have this to do; Yes, I will abide when once this is finished; when this week is over, it will be alright, I'll abide then." "Oh, Lord you knew I had that planned but work has this thing going on and I have to be there for it, but I'll make it up really!"

Satan will have another work expectation, or another car part break down, or family outing, or tax audit, etc etc. satan will keep God's Children so busy we might get a 10 minute quiet time in per week with God, if that. And that satan can live with.

We need to abide now! And let the Tyranny of the Urgent take a route around that premise we place as our first fruit. In the initial stages it is a continual effort until it becomes so much the law of life that you abide in Him unconsciously. Determined to abide in Jesus wherever you are placed. You begin to realize there is no condition to life in which we cannot abide in Jesus - period. And we find ourselves slowing down intentionally. Not lazing out, but being confident in what it is we expect, and understanding what we need to let go of, and say no to.

If we live by our emotion, we will do God's will only when we feel happy. If we live by faith, we see that we obey the Lord in all matters. "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him!" (Job 13:15). This is the abiding where we don't make a distinction of it being labeled "abiding' over simply living my life. It happens only after a deepening work of the cross in our lives that makes possible our absolute surrender to God in every little thing in life; TV time, movies we watch, places we frequent, eating habits, monies, happiness, etc etc including our love of His will over our satisfaction that comes from His Joy and blessings even.

That is abiding where nothing can sidetrack it. That is abiding when God knows whom you love. This trust becomes unspoken even, a tiny nudging of the spirit lights you up immediately, and in turn you obey Him immediately regardless of His encouraging presence being felt...God just looks at ya and says quietly, "I got this," and you turn to Him and say, "I know, I'm coming."

That age 24, does that mean how many year you've been a theologian?

The Greek word for "abide" is "meno" which means to remain, tarry, not to depart, continue to be present.

1 John 4:13 says abide in Him. In context, we see that if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us (vs. 12). Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God (vs. 15). God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in Him (vs. 16).

Abiding in Christ has 2 aspects to it in my opinion.

The first one is that all of us Christians are "in Christ" now when we received Christ - He has come into us to stay forever. John 14:16.

The other aspect to "abiding in Christ" is keeping our minds ( the thoughts we think ) on the things of the spirit. Our spirit where we are a new creation joined as one spirit with the Lord is always "in Christ" and always "abiding with Him". Now we need to renew our minds to this truth.

When we are trusting in what Christ has already done - this goes with resting in the Lord - we are abiding/remaining/staying in the truths of what is true no matter what the circumstances are saying.

Here is a short 4 minute talk on this truth that may be of benefit to you. It will come - line upon line. We see things darkly now but the Lord gives us more light as we look to Him.

Age of Enlightenment greatly differs from person to person. 1 Samuel 3, Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. David as a boy did great things with reliance on the Lord. Timothy as a young man evangelized on missionary trips with the apostle Paul and became a leader of the church in Ephesus. Joseph was a young man when sold into slavery. Daniel was a young boy when forced into captivity.

While on the other hand, many of Gods servants were well on in age by the time their acts of faith took place in the Bible. Noah, Moses, the first 11 apostles, Paul, just to name a few off the top of my head.

God can use every age, shape, and size to do his will.

John 15New International Version (NIV)

The Vine and the Branches
15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

To abide or remain in Christ first we must know he is the true vine or one and only way to salvation. The father cuts off every branch in him that doesn't bear fruit. So 2nd a believer must continue in obedience into spiritual maturity. Remain in the vine until his work is completed. Either until death or the return.

Dont be a branch thats cut off and thrown into the fire. The fathers glory is for by showing ourselves to be diciples of Jesus. How does our discipleship show? By remaining in Jesus which produces fruit.

3rd we remain in his love by surrender and living in obedience to his commands. Do everything in love.

We remain in Christ for "fruit bearing" by believing in what Christ has already done and then Christ is in us.

The truth is all people are "in Christ" because of His work on the cross. He is called the last Adam. God has reconciled all things to Himself by Christ's work. All people are included in Christ's work but we need to believe and chose His work for all the world.

To remain in Christ - people need to believe and receive Christ's finished work on the cross and resurrection and receive the gift of righteousness. Rom. 5:17. This is why Jesus said that at the end of the ages the angels will remove the "unrighteous" from out of His kingdom.

Col. 1:20 Romans 5 speaks of this as well.

2 Corinthians 5:19-20 (NASB)
[SUP]19 [/SUP] namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

[SUP]20 [/SUP] Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

There is a difference between being "in Christ" and "Christ being in us". We need to believe and receive the forgiveness of sins in order to be a partaker of the divine life that is in Christ.

Acts 10:43 (NASB)
[SUP]43 [/SUP] "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."

this is part of the "context regarding Love just a few verses Later, just to add to your thought there

1 john 5: 2-3 "BY THIS WE KNOW THAT WE LOVE the children of God, when we love God, and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. 3For THIS IS THE LOVE OF GOD, that WE KEEP his commandments: and his commandments are NOT GRIEVOUS."

its imposible to seperate Love from the word of God, "love" doesnt supplant the commandments it keeps them without grievance in doing so, its what Love is and why Jesus taught us how to treat one another.

Yes, by this we know that we love the children of God, (demonstrative evidence) when we love God, and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments and His commandments are not grevious.

*BTY the Greek word for "keep" is "tereo" which means means to guard, observe, watch over, properly maintain, keep intact. The reason that I brought this up is because there are those in the sinless perfection camp who seem to believe that "keep" His commandments means sinless, perfect obedience to all of Christ's commandments 100% of the time, but that is not the case.

John, using descriptive language, gives us a description of those who keep His commandments and those who do not keep His commandments. John clearly explains in 1 John 2:3 - By this we know that we have come to know Him, (demonstrative evidence) if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

What does "abode in him" mean? The deep personal relations with Father and his Son with those who believe and love with them KJVJohn14:23 23. Jesus answered and said unto him,If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him., A striking example Abraham (see Genesis18;17-19 How relations with them effect of our lives? (see KJVPsalms ch.91)

The word abide comes from a Greek word and means to be consistent or steadfast and this word is applied in John 8 and is indicative of bearing fruit..........If I remain in you and you in me you will bear much fruit......it deal in particular with discipleship and fruit bearing....and before the workers for jump on the wagon....it has no bearing on salvation....one is saved by faith and by remaining in the truth and the truth in you like fertilizer will cause one to bear fruit and produce works of gold, silver and precious stones....those who do not remain consistent in Jesus will be stunted in their spiritual growth, will not produce much fruit and their works will be of wood, hay and stubble......

Only A Branch
by Freda Hanbury

Tis only a little Branch,
A thing so fragile and weak,
But that little Branch hath a message true
To give, could it only speak.

"I'm only a little Branch,
I live by a life not mine,
For the sap that flows through my tendrils small
Is the life-blood of the Vine.

"No power indeed have I
The fruit of myself to bear,
But since I'm part of the living Vine,
Its fruitfulness I share.

"Dost thou ask how I abide?
How this life I can maintain?--
I am bound to the Vine by life's strong band,
And I only need remain.

"Where first my life was given,
In the spot where I am set,
Upborne and upheld as the days go by,
By the stem which bears me yet.

"I fear not the days to come,
I dwell not upon the past,
As moment by moment I draw a life,
Which for evermore shall last.

"I bask in the sun's bright beams,
Which with sweetness fills my fruit,
Yet I own not the clusters hanging there,
For they all come from the root."

A life which is not my own,
But another's life in me:
This, this is the message the Branch would speak,
A message to thee and me.

Oh, struggle not to "abide,"
Nor labor to "bring forth fruit,"
But let Jesus unite thee to Himself,
As the Vine Branch to the root.

So simple, so deep, so strong
That union with Him shall be:
His life shall forever replace thine own,
And His love shall flow through thee.

For His Spirit's fruit is love,
And love shall thy life become,
And for evermore on His heart of love
Thy spirit shall have her home.
