Yes I saw those stipulations as well. It was harsh in those respects but it does state that our judicial has the same principals except the part about setting someone free Now I don't agree with all of it but some of it is,pretty interesting like the city of refuge

an eye for an eye and death sentences for many trangressions against the law does not agree with that sentiment

which is why I always say a person really needs to familiarize themselves with the Old Testament to truly appreciate all that God has done for us in the sacrifice of His Son

people also had to make restitution for their crimes

city of refuge was for someone who accidentally killed someone

I know we are under a new covenant but I found this
article interesting. There was no prison for criminals who committed a crime there was slave system and on the seventh year they could go free hm
Mosaic Legal system, no jails or prisons vs. slavery comparison
There was the getting stoned system too. You killed, you were killed, you raped someone you were killed, you dishonored your parents you were killed. So there was not much need for a prison system, when most crimes carried a death penalty.

In other words no repeat offends or doing life on the installment
plan, they had grave yards not prison yards. The slavery was nothing like what was in this country, it was more of an live in employee plan, with severance pay.

That's really sad but what is the downfall of our judicial system today we are basically paying to house prisoners out of our tax money I case manage prison/ jail placement felons do you know when some of them get out they are given clothes gift cards and for six months a place to stay rent free.

City of refuse was for manslaughter or accidental death, if you straight murdered someone the city was not for you. I really need to go through the Pentateuch again, it's been awhile. Shirt is all through out it. As I was answering a post and I post the context of Hebrews 6:1-3 it reminded me of all the washings of the offerings, the laying on of hand, like the scapegoat. Then how all that is considered died works, how the Law brings judgement that leads us to repentance or int should.

A study of Hebrews with Leviticus is supposed to be an eye opener. The moral laws I have studied not long ago, but the ceremonial laws it's been awhile. It seems like you are going through the pentateuch your other thread got me thinking as well, it's nice to see what others a studying, it can motivate one to do the same.

I have to agree with other posters here - no need to prison and jails - criminals and the like were usually executed not long after 'trial'.

For further punishments, etc., see the Code of Hammurabi - it spells the crimes and respective punishments out pretty good.
A few excepts:

6. If any one steal the property of a temple or of the court, he shall be put to death, and also the one who receives the stolen thing from him shall be put to death.

7. If any one buy from the son or the slave of another man, without witnesses or a contract, silver or gold, a male or female
slave, an ox or a sheep, an ass or anything, or if he take it in charge, he is considered a thief and shall be put to death.

8. If any one steal cattle or sheep, or an ass, or a pig or a goat, if it belong to a god or to the court, the thief shall pay thirtyfold therefor; if they belonged to a freed man of the king he shall pay tenfold; if the thief has nothing with which to pay he shall be
put to death.

209. If a man strike a free-born woman so that she lose her unborn child, he shall pay ten shekels for her loss.

210. If the woman die, his daughter shall be put to death.

Nope, no need for a jails/prisons in Babylon ;)

What is sad is I did not get saved until I was 28 and I've still been saved for more years, that makes me older than I'd like to be. What is interesting is I became born again on October 31st 1984, this year it will be 33 years and 500 years for the reformation. Which is supposed to end this year according to the rome catholic church because they signed some papers with the lutheran church, like that's going to stop the protest of justification by works.
