Every description I've heard holds God to be all powerful and all good. And then I look around and I see a tsunami that killed a quarter million people in Indonesia. An earthquake that killed a quarter million people in Haiti. And I see earthquakes and tornadoes and disease, childhood Leukemia. And I see all of this and I say I do not see evidence of both of those being true simultaneously. If there is a God, the God is either not all powerful, or not all good. It can't be both
Oh, God is all powerful alright... but when He created man He gave man authority over the earth and man fell in to sin which made satan the god of this world and now... man sows to the flesh and bad things happen frequently.

It's not possible for God to lie so the gifts and callings of God arwe without repentance so He cannot just take the authority He gave Adam back before the allotted time otherwise God would be a liar.

So, we have to accept God by faith thru Jesus knowing that in the end all darkness will be thrown in the lake of fire and bad things will no longer happen... along with those that reject God thru Jesus will no longer be around either having been thrown in to that lake of fire.

In the end, those that truly accept the Lord and want to be with Him will be the ones that live throughout eternity with the Lord.

Implicit in the Scientist's dilemma is that a perfect system is evidence of God.

The scientist sees things in terms of systems that work flawlessly.

So really we are back to the matter of intelligent design. He is effectively acknowledging that complex systems do not arrive by happenstance, and that they need to be engineered.

What is fascinating about God's Design is that everything has a perfect default blueprint. This is a huge subject, and there is lots of study on it. But the core idea is that however dishevelled and scrambled the system gets, it can be restored to perfection, and that blueprint is encoded in creation.

The best answer from His Word when you open the Bible and read the next few verses KJV2Peter2:4-9 4. For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to reserved unto judgment; 5.And spared not the old World, but saved Noah the eight person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6.And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensamle unto those that after should live ungodly; 7.And delivered just Lot vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked; 8.(For the righteous man dwelling among them, in seein and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds) 9.The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished;

When you say fall, you mean the fall of the son of God who was created not by flesh or blood, nor the will of man but of God right?
Dead wrong. How do you get that out of what I wrote?

And a growing number of these guys are now claiming aliens made man and are coming back to save man.

An atheist scientist made this statement. Could you give an answer to this atheist as though you are talking to him (not a fellow christian) being persuasive in your belief and not argumentative...
Here is the statement:
"Every description I've heard holds God to be all powerful and all good. It can't be both."
I would suggest to offer to him we are still living in bodies of death called corrupted, as that which ages in a decaying process leading to death and destruction of these bodies . We therefore are not what we will be when we receive our new incorruptible bodies ans and dwell in the new heavens and earth. They are ahead not seen. He gives us the faith to see that which is unseen the spiritual .Christ is the Way.

They have no way by there limited faith that goes to the end of our nose called the imagination of the heart and therefore have no way to see what he has prepared for those who love him by desiring to do what he commands us because he had mercy and grace on us the new creation. Believe as seeing.

We simply do not know Christ as Eternal Spirit after the rudiments of this world we do know Him after his law of faith and not the philosophies of this world after the oral traditions men they will never find God by looking through a microscope or telescope. He is our vision

You could add a couple of verses that they could chew on. After all a little salt (judgment) can season if they mix faith with it.it could prick them as a torn as with Paul when he was being converted from unbelief (no faith) to belief (faith)

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Colossians 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

He is.

God rules .

When the AC IS REVEALED,the church is raptured, and in revelation it says power is given unto him to overcome the saints.

THEN,it can be said "Satan rules"
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

That couldn't be true unless God is in charge.

Its too bad that there aren't more that love God.

Would that stop earthquakes and tsunamis and hail and all that? No, probably not. But it would cause those who love God to see His Work even when bad things happen.
Contrary to what some will tell you, God is not in charge here. He never wanted to be; He wanted us to be in charge. That’s why He put Adam, the first man, in charge over creation. But that first guy - you know, there's always one guy messing up the works - gave that in-charge position away. God, in His sovereign power, could have stepped in at that time and taken charge, but then He'd be in charge, which isn't what He wanted. So in order to restore things back to what God intended, one of us had to step up and take charge. But who among us could? Only God could. That’s why God had to come as a man to take charge, so that man would be in charge like God originally intended.

satan is the ruler of this world. For now.

"And you know what good is?"
This post has hit the nail on the head!

Any non-theist worldview cannot have a standard by which good and evil can be compared.
Ultimately, in an atheistic worldview, good and evil, at best, is just a matter of individual opinion.

In other words the question of what is good and what is evil does not have an answer in their worldview.
At best, as I said, it is a matter of opinion, at worst it is an outworking of selfish genes.

Even Richard Dawkins has been defeated on this question of how to even explain good and evil from an atheistic viewpoint and has written so in his books.

If morality is not absolute then it is a slippery slide to "might-is-right".
The one who is strongest is the one who sets the moral agenda.
The 20th Century is replete with appalling examples of how that went (Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler...
(Hitler goes at the end of my list because as bad as he was the others were worse.)

One cannot even begin to debate the role of God in morality until a workable definition of morality exists.
A workable definition needs something more than mere individual opinions on right and wrong.

Funnily enough atheists who hold to these strange views all react fairly similarly to immoral actions directed at them.
Suddenly they know exactly what is right and wrong and what is immoral or moral.
They demand justice - like everyone else - despite the fact that in the atheistic philosophical framework, justice, again, devolves down to individual opinion.

The key to countering atheists is to hone in on their logical inconsistencies.
They are unable to even frame a question challenging theistic belief without incorporating a theistic worldview in building their case.

One of the biggest fallacies many Christians hold to is that the atheists hold the high ground of logic and science...
This is COMPLETELY untrue.
Science and logic is the way to completely unmask an atheist!

He doesn't rule anything but the pits of hell.

Wanna see what happens when the ruler of this world the great God Jehovah steps aside?

Rev 6; 3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

God TOOK CHARGE of satan in the garden. He cursed him. Likened him and cursed him unto a crawling snake.

The flying locusts in rev can only harm those without the mark. Only those sealed by God escape the misery.

When satan attacked Job,he got permission from the RULER OF THIS WORLD.

you got it backwards. The bible says even wicked rulers are put in power by God.

If satan ruled this world there could never be a demon cast out.

What you are possibly alluding to is that satan is the god of this world. Which is limited to those sold out to him. Those serving satan as their god.

Time and chance happen unto all said Solomon....Just because God is good and all powerful does not mean that he is required to stop every tragic event that happens on this planet....and even within the ranks of catastrophic events the goodness of God can be seen....in the decent men and women who step up to help, in the fact that the children who die in said events while under the age of accountability make the kingdom of God etc.....

At the end of the day, one who claims to be an atheist will always look for an excuse to dismiss God by placing themselves on the higher moral ground.....

Would an atheist step into a mob of radical Islamic men gang raping a woman or beheading a Christian in an attempt to save that person?

Would an atheist run into a burning building to certain death to try and attempt to save a baby?

God was clear....A fool has said in his heart there is no GOD and like a horse...one can be led tot he water, but not forced to drink....

My view....don't waste time on a fool, but rather go to those who are receptive!

Tell them to read the Book of Job. All of these things above pretty much happened to Job and his direct family.

Maybe from this quote

The issue that the person has overlooked is the Fall, which was brought about when Adam sinned by eating the forbidden fruit.
When you say fall, you mean the fall of the son of God, Adam.
Luke 3:38
38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth,
which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

Adam was born not by flesh or blood, nor the will of man but of the Word and the Spirit (LORD God)

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: Genesis 3:8

Man has fallen, we gave Satan our birthright, Jesus bought it back BUT we have to accept him as our Savior. Satan is the god of this world as Peter plainly stated and as Satan plainly stated in Luke 4 when he was tempting Jesus he stated, for if you will just bow down and worship me ALL THESE Kingdoms will I give unto you, for IT IS GIVEN UNTO ME to do as I will with.

We gave Satan our birthright. This world HATED JESUS how much more will it hate us. Satan is the author of death, disease etc. etc. And man chose Satan over God. When we turn around and chose God, he has the birthright to us again, but NOT THIS WORLD.....There b few that find the way.

Blame Satan, the god of this world whom WE gave the power over us, not God who created us PERFECT.

Man with such limitation in sight, intellect and longevity has no business judging the Almighty. If I told my three year old to go to bed because it's bedtime I have my reasons. Is that child to question my authority in ignorance, and challenge my intellect and love because he doesn't understand. People who question God are too stupid to question man. Fear of God and accepting that we see the universe through a pinhole, is the beginning of wisdom. God loves the inquisitive mind and shares knowledge and wisdom readily if you ask Him, unaccusingly. If I draw a picture and decide to erase part or all of it, it's my picture and I have the authority to do so. It's not because I lack love but because in order to reveal my final masterpiece every pencil mark may not make it to the completed sketch. Man deceives himself by assuming he is grander than he is. We are all just pencil lines in a big sketch. It is up to the Almighty to increase you or erase you. That is the beauty of God. Even though we all deserve to be thrown in the trash and for Him to start over, instead He works our flaws into something beautiful.

Interesting I'd ask the atheist scienctist why does He need to eat plants or animals or whatever to sustain his life?

Would which god is worshipped in the nation have anything to do with these kinds of tragic happenings? Especially in the government offices...if we are calling on YHWH through His Son Yeshua, He will hear us.

This argument is called "the problem of evil", and it's so well-worn and common that it even goes by the theological name of "theodicy."

There are probably hundreds of books and youtube videos covering this topic perfectly well.

If your atheist scientist wanted an answer, he could go read a dozen books by top christian academics and philosophers... but he doesn't want an answer... he just wants to yank your chain.

It's simple. God is not in charge here.
actually God is in charge, sure we hear of death every day,but also life as well,in fact it's funny someone simply questioning God's power by way of natural disasters, yet the person couldn't see that they themself were alive despite millions dieing, how??? God simple as that, instead of counting all who died the person should look at all who were spared instead,For there displays God protecting all powerfully those who he deemed fit,for read of lot,God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, yet he kept lot and his wife and children from harm, though his wife looked back as God forewarned her not to,and then Sodom and Gomorrah was utterly destroyed,God is always in control, what lacks is not his power but our faith, and to answer both questions God is powerful and good, for is anything too hard for God? Read of Job,God allowed the devil to do terrible things to Job but he wouldn't allow him to take his life, for he was his loyal servant, sure the devil got rid of some of Job's children and livestock through disasters such as the ones mentioned by this atheist scientist, but God restored what was lost to Job along with further blessings, now that is "true" power, using power for well what do you know"GOOD" not evil!!!
