This is something I see Christians do all the time and I really do not understand it. It is like, God said through His word, that all men must wear a black suit during church on Sunday. Well, I don't have a black suit, and it would cost me a lot to get one, so I attack the word of God until I have convinced myself and many others that God really meant that I could wear a gray suit. So now I wear my gray suit to church on Sunday and viciously attack anyone who suggests that God said to wear a black suit. So, I have won, right, I got what I wanted. Yes but only in this life, one day I will have to stand before God and explain why I rejected His clear command. I wonder, where is the fear of God? If a person REALLY believes that the bible is the word of God they would not even have the desire to try to change it. This seems to be a huge ego problem, some folks actually think they can out smart God, they are going to make God, by virtue of their great intellect, conform to their wishes.

christians dont challenge the Word

Jesus was the Word made flesh
we follow him

if someone challenges the Word
they arent christians

just false believers
and they need help
be careful not to attack them and drive em away

just show them the wide path they are on
doesnt lead to Jesus Christ

James 2:3

“And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:”

James 2:4

“Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?”

God says your black suit doesnt matter

It's called "seeker sensitive" where it's about them and not about God.

In other words, they refuse to die to self and let Jesus live in them so they be trying to live fo self and still claim to be Christian.

How would you know?
Romans 1 When they knew God they did not like God so they changed God into creeping things and four footed beasts because they liked them better.

Mostly from what I have seen it's not the word of God they are challenging it's what others say the word of God says they are challenging, I do see how people will cherry pick or attempt to make it say something it really doesn't for their own convenience but I think challenge is the wrong word to use as they are merely attempting to twist it into what they want it to say.
I have even caught myself doing this from time to time

This is a subject folks do not want to talk about because it is acceptable to some degree with a lot of people. It is a very dangerous thing to do but it is so popular no one wants to hear that. Changing the word of God in order to fit a personal agenda is exactly what Satan did in the garden of Eden. Everyone may enjoy their self doing this sort of thing, however it will not look pretty at the judgment.

Thank God the Bereans had the good sense to do just that... challenge what they were told they were supposed to believe. It's a shame more people have not learned we are supposed to be doing that all the time.

samuel23:

You have posed a theoretical question with a hypothetical example.
It is actually meaningless.

If you have an ACTUAL point to make, then make it...otherwise the wise approach is to close the thread.

Hey Grace, I made a very definite point. My point was to bring to the attention of Christians a practice that a lot of folks know that they are doing(you may be one of them), but they like to swim in the river of denial. Since this is the most destructive practice in the body of Christ today, I think it was very wise to expose it.

Using a hypothetical example of what colour suit a man wears to church??!?
You got to be kidding...

To me you are just blasting away at a bush with a shotgun hoping something falls out....

Exactly. Do we sit in our church and receive the word with all readiness of mind without searching the Scriptures to see whether those things we are taught are so?

Challenging what someone is saying about the word is good(Bereans did that), actually challenging the word itself because you do not like what it is saying...is very bad.

what challenging are you talking about? your OP was not a very good illustration because I don't believe God has told us what color suit we should wear when we go to church. All God wants from us is a heart open to Him.

Hi Renew; My opening remark was about people who change the word of God because they do not like what it says. I made up the story about the suit so as to make the point more clear.

Hi Samuel; I know people change the word of God because they do not like what it says. And it is up to us to point out if/when this happens. The example you used is not really illustrative because God never told us what color suit we should wear when we go to church. Could you give a specific example of a person who has changed the Word of God?
