Job 34

35‘Job speaks without knowledge;
his words are without insight.’
36Would that Job were tried to the end,
because he answers like wicked men.
37For he adds rebellion to his sin;
he claps his hands among us
and multiplies his words against God.”

****

Did you know Job was a sinner too?

How does this change your understanding of the book of Job?

Do you see the lies and deceptions Job's friends repeated?

I see the book of Job reflected in modern day circles. Job's friends sound to me like many false prosperity gospel teachers.

Do you see the similarities?

Also the metaphoric language is hard to understand at times. I was wondering if folks had insight into it?

Does anyone have good sermons, books, articles, etc on the book of Job?

Of course Job and everyone born after Adam was a sinner... only Jesus wasn't a sinner.

Job is one of my favorite books of the Bible Behind Genesis,Mathew, and Romans . I have been preparing to do a study of the book in the coming weeks . What a blessing it is to see a thread about Job before I dig in . I look forward to reading the replies here . As for any insights I may have , I will have to get back with you on that . I have issues putting some concepts down in writing. The way I think and write are two different things in my case . ( If that makes sense) . Let's say if I was talking I could go on for hrs ha ha . Writing just is not my calling .

"All sin and fall short of the glory of God." The difference between people like Job, Daniel, and well Christians, is that thier sins are so few that they're hard to find. Spies were not able to catch Daniel sinning, but there is a verse that mentions his sin too. This is called being above reproach.

All human beings are sinners.. Why should the fact that Job like all other men who have ever lived on earth had sin change ones response to the Book of Job?

Yeah, be sure and notice God is the One that put the hedge of protection around Job and since the gifts and callings of God are without repentance... God did not just give satan permission to attack Job.

Job said what he feared came upon him so he was in fear, which is evident by the fact that he kept doing the same sacrifices over and over not having faith they were doing any good due to his fear... and that is why satan had the right to attack Job because thru fear, Job was the one that broke the hedge of protection the God had put around him.

But, because Job was pure in heart before the Lord and was not in fear out of rebellion God called him a righteous man and he was.

Lots of mis-information about Job as satan has tricked people into believing they are like Job so he can slap them around and tear up their lives... if that were true, after a short time they would double their assets while they come out victorious!

What I like about Job is the simple fact that his three oldest friends were certain that he had some secret sin he was being punished for.....I personally believe there is a bigger picture alluded to in Job...but most would not be mature enough to handle this particular view so I will remain silent on it.......

Unfortunately there will always be "Job's supposedly comforters" in every denomination of the body of Christ. It's the flesh acting up and not knowing about the true nature of God.

Here is a resource that has a few articles on the book of Job. At the bottom of the articles are where people have asked questions for clarification. I have found these useful as well.

Here also is a great video looking at it as well.

I once heard someone on CC who teaches sinless perfection make this statement:

"Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

If Job could be perfect under the old covenant, why can't we under the new with the help of the Spirit?"

Yet perfect here does not mean that Job was sinless, without fault of defect, flawless, absolutely perfect 100% of the time. *Job had admitted his human sinfulness (Job 7:21; 13:26).*

The word "perfect" which in Hebrew is "tam" does not necessarily imply sinless, 100% of the time, but signifies, rather, completeness, integrity, sincerity, but in a relative sense. The Hebrew term tam is equivalent to the Greek teleios, which is often translated perfect in the NT but which is better translated "full grown" or "mature."

be

I agree that Job was a sinner too because, if he was not, the book of Job would have no relevant meaning on how to conduct ourselves from the trials that we all must face.

I have heard told me about how righteous and good Job is but when I read it myself....I had to step back pray a lot.

The passages really spoke to me about the spiritual battle we engage in this world.

One of my favourite bible verses

Job 38:22
“Have you visited the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of hail?

From what I understand Job probably would not have seen snow or knew what it was.

Makes me humble.

Makes me realise that I actually know very little of God.

one day we will all see him and we will be absolutely amazed by his true greatness because we will see all of him.

Excellent! I will read back through Job too and do some research.

I feel that God wants me to learn something from this book. Maybe we can learn it together.

One of the funniest things I read in the book of Job was where "God Himself doesn't believe all that is written about Him in scripture."

God says in chapter 42 that what was written about God for the previous 30 some chapters was wrong - Job's so-called friends were not friends and what they said about God was incorrect.

I had someone "teach" the bad advice of Job's friend as if It was actually God's will.

That article was awful...will listen to the video when I have more time and after I check a few more things....the articles mentions Job's siblings and fair weather friends. He mixing them with the three friends who have bad advice and misses a lot of what is conveyed in Job just to say...God didn't allow Satan to bring trouble to Job.

The Bible clearly says God allowed Satan to touch Job.

Job fear did not remove the hedge around himself and allow Satan to attack him. God removed it for His purpose and will.

Job made sacrifices for his kids sins but he didn't rebuke his kids, nor did they repent themselves.

Job did fine until he was attacked by His "friends" then his sin was defending himself instead of defending God.

There are 5 articles in that link I sent.

That is your own interpretation of Job and you are entitled to it and I understand it because I was also taught this in my church teachings about Job. I don't believe that satan is God's sheepdog to attack us.
