So a while ago my dad brought this up. He said Christianity is the only true religion. When i asked him "how so?" he answered with "it just is". That answer wasnt sufficient enough, so i want to ask you all these questions to get different input. why is Christianity the "right" religion compared to the others? Is there even a "right" religion or should we accept them all? If Christianity is equally accepted as other religions, then what is the point of maintaining our faith in God? Why should we not just convert to another religion? Im not asking these out of being a denier or for mockery, i am just genuinely curious as to how to answer these and would love to see every body's different input :)

Faith in Christ was not called a religion in the NT, it was simply called the way to God, I think it was usually just called THE WAY. Faith in Christ is certainly the best way to God because it is the only one created by God so therefore it works.

Our King humbled himself, born to a virgin, lived a sinless life, showed the way to the Father, went to die on a cross for you, was raised on the third day in victory over death, hell and the grave - was seen by many eye witnesses, and now sits next to the Father in Heaven, making intercession on your behalf with the Father. ------ because He loves you. Personally.

***no other religion has a Savior that shed His blood, died, and arose again***Salvation is in the Blood of Christ, for it is the price for man's sin***if man could be saved without Christ death on the Cross, then God would not have sent His precious Son***(John 14:6) "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." ***we either accept Christ as the true Savior or He was a liar***He is the Son of God sent to bring salvation to the World (John 3:16)***if you believe on Him you will be saved (John 3:18)***if you reject Christ then you are, and will be condemned (John 3:18)...

If you are sincerely seeking to know the answer to this question, and are ready to humble yourself - then ask God to reveal Himself to you. Speak to Jesus. I know He will respond. Wait on Him. You can know for sure.

Then come back here and share your testimony.

im not super educated on all religions

but ive read the Bible
and i study it pretty much every single day

i can tell you its true from experience
having prayers answered, miracles and its perfect from cover to cover

if you go to the testimony forum
you can look at my testimony and see why i believe

i didnt for most of my life
its not like i was raised by people who followed Jesus in any kind of honest sense

how someone like me could tell you that any God other than the God of the bible is false

is because the bible says so more so than my education on the false "religions"

also
the bible is how someone like me can see error in the catholic church

or understand if someone who is claiming to be christian really isnt

Samuel23 is on the right track.
Religion is a loaded term in contemporary culture because in the eyes of most the current definition of religion is all about rules and ceremony.
Christianity is primarily about a personal relationship with God - nothing more and nothing less!

As for the bigger question about why Christianity is true and the only true way to God you need to investigate Christian apologetics.
Possible avenues for investigation include:

The historical reality of Christianity - the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the best documented of ANY historical character in distant history. If you accept that Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great existed then so much the more Jesus Christ. The history of the Church can be traced directly to the events of the life of Jesus Christ.
Contrast this with the "history" of the genesis of Islam - Muhammad was apparently given revelation form God in secret which he wrote down to eventually give the Quran - thats it, nothing more!

Scientific evidence.
The evidence that the universe had a beginning in time and space and is NOT eternal is now incontrovertible. This means that the universe had to be created. It is not possible for something to come from nothing. This does not precisely prove the Christian view of God but many physicists and others have come to accept the reality of a theistic origin to the universe precisely because that is where the evidence leads them!
Furthermore, there are innumerable examples of the details of the character and behaviour of the universe where these characteristics have to operate and behave in such narrow ranges of tolerance for the universe to continue to exist and also to support life.
A theistic origin to the universe excludes all religious systems that deny theism and leaves only three possibilities: Christianity, Judaism, or Islam.

The biologists are still fighting the concept of "intelligent design" tooth-and-nail. However, the evidence is mounting inexorably that life as we know it could not have spontaneously sparked itself into existence.
The simplest cell has dozens of very complex interacting systems that all need to be simultaneously functional for that cell to demonstrate even the most basic biological functionality. There simply is no place for a slow incremental evolutionary process where bits and pieces are slowly added by trial and error over millions (billions) of years. Either all the bits work from the get-go or there is no life!

Again, this is not direct evidence for Christianity but it is absolutely consistent with the claims of the Bible that life was directly created by God according to His design.

Essentially, if one is prepared to cover all the evidence (what I have mentioned above is a very small and incomplete summary) for the existence of a theistic God and then examine the historical veracity of the claims for God made in the Bible one is left with no choice but to accept that Christianity is true and its claims about God are valid.

I emphasise that the statements I have made regarding physics and biology and history are independently verifiable - the only question that remains is: are you prepared to do the work and research this for yourself?

There is no other love that compares to the love of Jesus, and Christianity, which if everyone on this planet followed Jesus' teachings, and were saved, and led of the Spirit, there would not be fighting, even in the least sense, and all people would be clothed, and fed,and their needs met.

God said He identifies Himself as the one true God,by showing the end from the beginning, and said no other religion,or person, would be able to do that,in which God showed us every kingdom that would spring up from Egypt to the beast kingdom, showed us how man began in detail, and history from there, even telling us of what is going on now, with the new age movement, the advancement of technology, and travel, and automobiles, vehicles, establishing Israel as a nation again in the end time, and taking contol of Jerusalem by jets, the 6 day war,and more, and one day the world will come together and say,Peace and safety, and will end up rebelling against God,in which He will put them down, and that is it for people in the flesh ever ruling again.

The Bible says that creation testifies that there is a God,and of His attributes, which one of them is love, for He provided food, and the means to make clothing, and shelter,so the world is without excuse.

The Bible says, that there is one God,and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus, for only a sinless man can represent mankind to a holy God.

This makes sense that only a sinless man could represent mankind when creation testifies that God is love, and good, and want people to act the same.

God said you can look at creation and know of His attributes, for the hidden things of Him are clearly seen in creation.

People's lifes changed for the better.

And of course if you read through the Bible you will know there is no way that came from human intellect alone, are there is no other book in the history of mankind that goes in to as much information concerning mankind, and history,as the Bible, and also all the prophesies that came to pass, and everything God said would happen today is happening.

The world will come together, and try to have peace on earth, and think it is the best solution for the world, and eventually they will not acknowledge any God,and Jesus is not Lord and Savior, but a good teacher in spiritual enlightenment, and follow a man that will claim to be above Jesus, for he will exalt himself above all that is called God,or worshipped.

And everything will fall apart, and will be the most chaotic period ever in the history of mankind, for people cannot have peace without God,and Jesus, and when they say Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, and they shall not escape.

But God also told us there would be many hypocrites, and the love of people would wax cold towards each other, and evill men shall wax worse and worse, and children will not obey their parents, and they will devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men, many people turning from Christianity, not wanting to hear Christianity, and the world will view Christianity as not the answer for the operation of the world, but the occult will take over the operation of the world, which is a very self exalting believe, and they will think it is the answer, but it will make the world worse in chaos, and destruction, than ever in the history of mankind.

And God warns the world of this in the Bible,so they do not go along with them when they try to establish peace on earth that will cause the world to fall apart, for their high arrogance, and self exalting ways, will cause much damage.

Some good posts here.

To the OP - you sound like you do not know the gospel!

Put simply, the empty tomb is the reason why following Jesus Christ is the right way, the only way, and the only truth.

Other religions demand you do things to try and earn your salvation. Only Christianity acknowledges how impossible it is for us to be good and righteous, and be deserving of a relationship with God.

Every other religion demands you do works to be saved. And those works will never give assurance that we can meet with God, and he will accept us.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

"No one is righteous, no not one;
No one understands,
No one seeks God." Romans 3:10b-11

So, everyone has this problem - on our own, we simply cannot please God. We are unable to approach a holy and just God. That means we are deserving of death.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

And no, don't pretend you are a "good"or "ok" person.

"And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." Luke 18:19, Mark 10:18

So, we cannot come before God, and we are hopelessly lost. But, God is also merciful and loving, and he knew we would face this dilemma of coming before him, without compromising the holiness and justice of God. How to come before a holy and just God, when we are so sinful and unworthy?

The answer to that is Jesus death and resurrection. If Jesus had stayed dead, like the founders of every other world religion, we would all just be able to choose some kind of religion, and try and live our best. But no, Jesus proved he was God, by rising from the dead where he was seen by his disciples, and 500 other people. And those disciples were willing to die for Christ, because they had seen him after he died.

"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me." 1 Cor. 15:3-8

So, how can you serve God? By coming to God and believing Christ is the living God, admitting you are a sinner, confessing your sins and repenting of them.

"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved" Romans 10:9-10

And do you know how much this costs? Well, on one hand it costs nothing - it is absolutely free!

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not of your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Eph. 2:8-9

On the other hand, God is so amazing, that paradoxically, coming to Christ costs everything.

"But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead." Phil. 3:7-11

So, that is why, after studying all the world's religions, and finding them to be hollow and empty, God called me and saved me. There simply is no other religion which acknowledges our poverty and sinfulness, and replaces it with God's love poured out on the cross, and Christ raised from the dead.

The tomb was empty!

The true Christian "religion" is the only one that teaches the God has done everything necessary for man to enter eternal life. Every other religion makes man earn eternity with servitude that is beyond his ability to render.

For the cause of Christ

All other relegions are based on salvation eguals the good out weighing the bad. And thats not even promised in some relegions like Islam promises the only sure fire way to gain salvation is to die in a holy war killing infidels.

Another thing historically and archaeology is heavily supports christianity. Eye witnesses and historical documentation supports the resurrection. Jesus is the only known widely spread, documented man to return from death.

All the evidence is there for those who seek. All other religions have too many questions and not enough answers.

[h=2]RELIGION A BAD WORD?[/h]
The word Religion (Strong's #2356) (threskeia) means worship or religious service and can refer to a system of external observances as in (Acts 26:5). In simple terms, religion in this context refers to external actions and patterns of behavior. Christianity is best defined not as a religion but as a relationship with a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is possible to be "religious" but not right with God. Just look at the Pharisees. Religion apart from a relationship with Jesus Christ is in vain.

James 1:26 - If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. This man's religion is vain, empty, devoid of power, lacking in content, nonproductive, dead and of no eternal value. James 1:27 - Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with "pure and undefiled religion" but there is certainly something wrong with impure and defiled religion.

There is only One God the Creator of all existence.. Therefore He will only have one will for mankind.. You cannot have 20 different religions giving 20 different and conflicting views of the will of God.. Either they are all wrong or only one is correct.. But they cannot all be correct..

Therefore the claim that Christianity is the Will of God and it is the only way to eternity with God is not a unreasonable claim.. Yes other religions can also claim they are the exclusive way to God.. islam preaches that and so does judaisim..

People can decide for themselves after hearing and read the different religons scriptures what they believe in teh way to eternal life.. If they are in agreement with God and Love the truth of God they will be drawn into the right religon.. If they love false doctrines they will be drawn into a false religion. So be it.. But the belief that there is only one way to God is still a solid argument no matter what path different people choose..

God walked the earth as a man to teach us how to live, have our sins forgiven, and obtain salvation. Christianity is the ONLY religion that acknowledges this, so it's the only religion that is true.

First and foremost true biblical Christianity is a way of life, not a religion....Jesus condemned organized religion if one wants to he honest about it.....At the end of the day....One who honestly allows the bible to mold them and shape their thoughts and actions after being born of the spirit will be able to see the validity of the bible and the truth it lays bare......!

Christianity is not a religion, it is Jesus church that have grown into many churches that believe on his name. There are religious Christians that follow the word of God whole-heartedly, known as dedicated Christians . That is what makes them religious. Then ,there are those Christians that do not follow the word whole-heartedly. They may be known as luke warm Christians, that God said he would spew them out of his mouth. Wishing they were either hot or cold..These other so called religions are only sects, or cults, and that is exactly what they are outside the kingdom of God. religion is not what you believe in ,but rather how dedicated you are to what it is you believe in. God is the only true God, because through his Son, he offers eternal life, and have proved it, and no other faith can offer it and prove it.

To the OP...

The reason why I know the bible is true and trustworthy is because if it came from a man and not God, man would not have written it, because it condemns all of us. Get yourself a bible and begin reading it, whilst praying to God to illume you heart and mind to reveal His truths to you.

Some good posts here.

To the OP - you sound like you do not know the gospel!

I'll have to go with Angela on this one.

I've never heard a genuine Christian ask why Christianity is the only true religion...
because to a genuine believer, it is self evident.

As far as dealing with this question in serious apologetics, there are many ways to answer it.
It can be answered theologically, historically, and philosophically.

The philosophical approach would be something like this:
A. All religions CANNOT be equally true, because they make propositional claims that contradict each other.
B. Therefore, we cannot logically say "all religions are the same, or equal", and just lump them all into the same basket, and summarily dismiss them all.
C. We are therefore logically forced to the conclusion that because all religions CANNOT be equally true, and the antithesis of religion (atheism) CANNOT be proven... we must carefully examine EVERY religion, independently, to see if ANY will hold up to scrutiny.
D. You can then examine them by breaking them into general categories based on similar beliefs, and then logically proving that all of these categories are LOGICALLY INCONSISTENT INTERNALLY, and thus are all untrue... except one. The ONLY category which is logically consistent is monotheism. (This strips away most of the world's religions, and narrows it down to only a few.)
E. You then use various methods to show Christianity is the monotheistic religion which is the most logically consistent, and which has the best proofs and evidences. (One of the most powerful proofs is the evidence for the resurrection of Christ, which is so strong it will actually hold up just fine in a formal academic debate. The proof for the resurrection of Christ is incredibly strong... strong enough to hold up to the most rigorous debate.)

The philosophical method is all a bit tedious... but it is logically sound.
You CAN prove Christianity is the only true religion.

But the bible says all men know in their hearts there is a God...
so it's much easier to just give them the gospel.
If they reject it, they reject it.
