I have it in my head what I think BDF is all about. I just heard from a couple of friends on what they wish this forum was about. And, I just read someone else's opinion about what this forum is all about. Everyone's idea of what it is about doesn't match anyone else's concept.

So, I'm really asking, why do you come here? What service does this forum provide? What service do you wish it supplied. What service do you think you supply on here? And what do you -- personally -- get out of it?

Warning: This is not a thread to attack "them." This is not a nostalgia thread. ("I remember when BDF was about...") This is not an "I'm right and your wrong" thread. And, I'm very bored with the "If y'all would just realize how to behave," particularly from people, like me, not known for behaving. (I hope no one was drinking something when reading that, or it probably went out your nose.)

I honestly would like to know why you come, what you hope to give, and what you hope to get. Because it is so diverse, maybe if we start understanding each of us have different wants and different needs, then maybe we can start realizing, what "I want" isn't the end all/be all of what BDF offers anyway. Maybe not, but I really am curious what you are up for when you come on to this particular forum the first time on any given day.

So what do you want from coming here, what do you want to give, and what keeps you coming back? Basically, why do you come to BDF?

I come for several reasons, the first is because it is the most popular forum in this site and thus there much more conversation, the second is to learn and grow more in faith and maturity in love because even in the most heated debates I have always left them gaining something from it. The third is to be used by God to impact the hearts of others however I can be used even if it's just one heart that is impacted. And the fourth is to help others to learn and grow in faith and in love as well

I like to hear what other believers think about the scriptures and even life in general. I also hope that maybe I will learn something new that I did not know before. Also, if I get the opportunity I like to share what I have found in the bible and maybe something that God did in my life. That is about it, sometimes it is just nice to be part of a group that have some things in common.

Occasionally, I enjoy the heated bickering back and forth. I'm not a bible scholar but I do read it everyday and have read it cover to cover 3 times and working on a 4th. It doesn't impress me at all when someone provides pages of bible passages in trying to prove a small point. If you offer a rebuttal bible passage someone will say that it doesn't apply or its for the Jews or Moses wrote it so its irrelevant. I have yet to see a single opinion changed in these discussions. Overall, I have come to the conclusion that some of the members posted probably know even less than I do. I guess some people just enjoy flaunting their obvious biblical knowledge and enjoy belittling others who dare to disagree with them. I come to the BDF mainly for the laughs. I've certainly have not learned anything there.

I just enjoy being on the BDF (and other CC forums). I've found great peace in my life, thanks to the Lord's guidance, and I like to witness to it.

Hey Buddy, do you really think there are people who come here for that reason? There are some very educated and knowledgeable people in this forum, I never felt that any just wanted to show off. I am at times not very good at reading character so you may have a point.

I come once in a while to get different opinions about the Bible from people that spend lots of time reading it because I don't.

this is one of the most saddest and pitiful responses I have ever read in this forum,,.
so, does this mean that you are just a quipper /non-learner, a non-seeker-acceptor of Truth from your 'brethren'???

Basically, I have about given up trying to learn anything in the BDF as it is mostly a lot of fighting and name calling. I do enjoy a lot of the posts from members sincerely attempting to share their knowledge but these are few and far between. Some to the topics I find meaningful but these are quickly side-tracked and then the fighting and name calling starts. There are a few members who I truly respect, and despite what I have written, may have learned a thing or two but for the most part, the BDF is a battle ground. What I'm really trying to say is that I have found the BDF to be, for the most part, disappointing. Yes, this is indeed sad.

I come here to see how far everyone else has strayed from the word of God. I thought that was why everyone else comes here.

It would be nice to have a few actual studies (not critiques) of the scripture.

I concur completely with your estimation. For the record, I consider you one of the good guys who are truly sincere. possess spiritual wisdom and offer practical examples that can be applied in one's life. There are others also, but like you have said, there are also the few miscreants who have reached such a lofty, morally and spiritual height that you and I and the other unfortunate few cannot ever hope to obtain.
