I was wanting to start a discussion about the things that are spiritual such as spiritual warfare, angels, demons, spiritual assignments, how the spiritual can affect the physical, how to protect yourself from the spiritual, and why do such things protect us.

I have a few theories of how these things work. I've been a Christain for 19 years so I know that prayer and worship play a big part, I also have some personal spiritual experiences (both good and bad) of my own. But I want to hear from others on this.

Good post. We could all use a little extra knowledge in that area(or maybe a lot). At one time I got up early every morning and prayed continually for an hour, I would feel great afterwards but it seemed like all the forces of the demonic world mounted an attack against me. I mean, things started to happen to me that were never really a problem before. My conclusion was that I must have been troubling the camp of the enemy so they sent reinforcements to try to shut me down. Sad to say, it kind of worked because I did back off to a certain degree.

I have not been to the spiritual realm very often but when I did go i found something very interesting about it. I noticed how here on earth I base my decisions from different factors such as what I know, doubt, how I feel about something or a person and have even noticed how my thoughts are influenced by either god or the enemy but in the spiritual realm I acted and spoke based upon what was in my heart there was no thought process like how it is here it was like what was truly in my heart is what I did and spoke.

I have encountered demons several times both in the spiritual realm and in real life here as well there were times when I was so terrified all I could do was call out to God and he rescued me and there was a time recently when i was in bed at night and a dark figure was standing over me screaming and cursing at me angrily and I couldn't move at all and struggled to even speak as if my tongue was twisted so i would not be able to speak at all and I struggled to say I command you to leave in the name of Jesus Christ but was able to and then the dark figure had no choice but to leave.

Sometimes I need to be protected by God other times I am able to command them to leave

You don't have to answer, but were you into spiritual things before you became a Christian?

2Co 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2Co 10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Jas 4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Jas 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Jas 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Jas 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

1Co 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1Co 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1Co 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1Co 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Php 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Nothing beats hating sin,and not wanting sin, representing goodness, and being Christlike, thinking, and acting right,if one truly wants to be spiritual, and close to God.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Some people believe they cannot abstain from sin,and sin does not affect their relationship with God,and then believe they are sealed unto the day of redemption, but the Lord knows them that are His,and this is the seal, that every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity, which if they do not want sin,and hate sin,by the Spirit they will not sin,for God will not put on them more than they can bear, and with the temptation will give them a way to escape it,so the temptation is lessened in their life compared to the world, and the Spirit will give them the power to overcome the flesh, and abstain from sin.

2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

These people confessed Jesus as Lord, but did not want to abstain from sin,so they could not dwell with Jesus, and on earth were ever learning, and never able to come to the truth that they have to abstain from sin,but thought they were alright despite them willingly sinning, and not trying to overcome the flesh.

Jas 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Jas 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Mat 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Many are called but few are chosen, and nothing beats hating sin,not wanting sin, representing goodness, and being Christlike, thinking, and acting right,if one wants to be spiritual, and close to God.

Check all spiritual experiences next to the truth found in the Bible as a whole.

Read the Bible at least once a year from Genesis to Revelation

Focus more on the world around you than the visions that you have

Judge the spirits by the fruit of what their advice does to your heart....does it condemn you and others? Or does the words match the Bible and makes you more loving, forgiving and Christlike?

Too often folks become too spirtual and lose connection with this world and reality.

This is very true, lots of people become way to spiritual I have seen it happen many times. Some people even seek out spiritual experiences and the enemy will use that against them others become kind of loony and start seeing things that aren't really there not hallucinations but rather they confuse their own imaginations with the things of the spiritual.

This is why I am very cautious with believing any dream vision or experience I encounter, if there is not any scriptural truth to it then I put it in storage in my mind and sometimes later on as I grow in faith God reveals to me the meaning and purpose of it and even scriptures for it.

The entire book of Revelations is written in the perspective of the spiritual realm.

The Christian is commanded to fight the good fight of faith only. God insist that the Believer place their faith exclusively in His Son Jesus and His Finished Work, i.e., The Cross, i.e., The Blood of Jesus. This allows the Holy Spirit the legal means to help the Believer in every capacity of life. Jesus is the full armor of God for the Believer. The Holy Spirit is the one that cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalt itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. The scripture says, "We are complete in Him." So how do we do this? Just Believe! You are now in the Spirit.

Yes, I've heard of that happening before. The enemy often gets more aggressive when they are worried about something, usually when we are going down the right path, regardless of if we know it or not. We see this as a common strategy in war. If the enemy approaches something important to you, you defend it and even call for reinforcements.

Aside from reinforcements, the enemy has various methods of attack. The attacks seem to be either physical or spiritual

Spritual attacks, the enemy harassing, distracting, putting thoughts in our heads, instilling a sence of fear and in the worst cases, invading our dreams.

Physical attacks, the enemy manipulates a person to cause harm to you mentaly, phisicaly, or socially. Or getting us hurt by inanimate objects. The phisical attacks seem to require some strategy on the enemy's side, especially since some bad things have a domino effect and require lots of manipulation.

(I probably missed a few things.) But knowing this kind of information should help us defend ourselves. If you get attacked spiritually, then you can defend with prayer, reciting the word, worshiping, etc. If you get attacked physically, then you can defend with the same thing.

It's a little different when the enemy attacks using people though.

Yup. If your spirit stepped out of your body, then your body would drop like a sack of sh fertilizer. LOL

I agree. Outside of consulting with the bible and God. I find that trying to encounter the spiritual or trying to run away from it completely tends to make the enemy want to bother you more.

Chasing after spirituality leads to the enemy trying to entice you.

Running from spirituality tends to make the enemy try to torment you.

Or if someone runs from God as well, they tend to end up inside a large fish :)

Ultimately we have to not run away or chase after things too much, consult with the word, and not let our imaginations get the better of us.

But putting evil spirits aside, there are angels as well. Let's talk about them too. Where does everyone think angels fit into our spiritual warfare?

The body and the soul 101. One of the easiest things to understand.

Your spirit is you...The soul is your mind I think
The body contains your bones, heart and brain. Whereas your Soul contains your spirit, mind and personality.

They are guardians and do not often speak with us.

If we want to know what God has to say we have the Holy spirit and can ask God directly.

Talking to angels...well most of them who have the "free time" to talk are fallen ones.

Before we are saved they may speak to us to give us a message from God but after we receive the Holy spirit...there isn't really a need, though an angel did talk to the Apostle John.

Hmm, yeh, but there are also a number of angelic encounters in Acts that I've wondered about over the years.
