Hey Joan, what you wrote sounds wonderful, but in the reality of the world it does not always work that way. Paul was our example of a believer, and he said I have been up and I have been down, I know how to enjoy having a lot(my paraphrase), and I know how to still be happy when I have little. Life is an up and down experience and God meant it to be that way, there is no secret formula that we can use to make it always be up. When you are on the mountain rejoice and be glad, and when you are in the valley rejoice and be glad(though it will be harder to do).

Hey Samual., I didn't say we never get down. Since we are here on earth we will "get down" based on the fact we are in this world and in these temporal bodies. Our flesh is subject to all kinds of things here on earth. We need shelter and cloths and food water and ...air. We have mood issues and temptation issues. We have weakness issues and need to learn issues. So we will be down and going through things while here. We will get down even to the degree that there is nothing we can do about what and how we feel about it.

Times like that I hold on to Jesus and His promise to never leave me or forsake me. And then allow time to pass knowing Jesus paid for that kind of grace in my life. That allows some sleep and restoration. Allow the Holy Spirit to show me while I hear the Word of encouragement and faith from the Bible. It's actually become a strategy for me often times when dealing with this flesh. There are things to avoid watching or hearing or being around in the day to day of life because somethings will deplete and cause weakness and even sadness. Having the Bible ready by the table and by the couch and in the bedroom on the night stand at all times. Also having CDs or DVDs of Bible preaching and teaching about the love of God in Christ by the bed or in the car or by the TV ready to be put in and heard saves me for that night.

I know that God can take a day to day situation where someone should have failed 100% and instead God caused the miracle of 100% victory. There was no fan fare or angels singing. It all happened quietly and the only one who saw it was me! When I hear the Bible and expose myself to the Spirit I'm in a place where when physically in the natural there was no way to do something I needed to do or have done. But I plowed a head because I had to. And would not allow the consideration that He would not be there for me ., and the job got done by a miracle.

I've seen we are in a battle for our minds. The flesh is so weak and subject to the world when we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us in the love of Christ. And only we can chose to allow Him into our lives for this day before us. So the reality is this., We have this treasure in earthen vessels. And I do believe what the Bible says when we believe with God all things are possible. that is the "secret formula" as you put it. Why is it so hard for you to believe that Jesus can be counted on to do what He says at all times? Why do you think that you need to leave an open for when He doesn't do what He promised?

I've stated this before not only for my own life but shared it here on CC in hopes to encourage others to do the same because it's Biblical. There is to be no plan B for us believers just "in case" Jesus doesn't come through for us the way He promised. We either trust Him all the way or we don't. To have a plan B is to not trust Him.

Paul trusted Jesus to come through for him. He knew whom he had believed in and was persuaded that Jesus was able to keep that which Paul committed unto Him against those days. So when he had down times he knew he would not be down for long because Jesus was for him and not against him. Paul was loved and lived that security out in his life here on earth.

The thing is., we can always be assured of the grace of God towards us. His unmerited love and provision that is ours not based on our wonderfulness and faithfulness. But based on this grace (unearned/unmerited/undeserved) love with security and provision because of Jesus and all He has done for us. The acknowledgment that it is all ours based on Jesus and Him alone who provides it all for us is what makes it come to pass in our lives. The times we don't credit it to Jesus are the times we fail and stay down and even forfeit the grace of God in our lives. Even fall from grace when we think it's us and not Jesus.

Many believers live lives based on how well they did and are doing and keep doing. There are many threads going on CC all the time about how we need to follow the law in order to be pleasing to God. When the fact is we need to credit Jesus with being perfect for us on our behalf in order to please God in our lives. In order to see the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives we have to know it's all Jesus and not us. The reason we don't see the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives is we are too busy seeing us and not Jesus. That is why we fail because we fail to see Jesus. When we see Jesus we will always have victory and accomplishments even when in the down times we can have a joyful expectation of good coming our way.

There is nothing sadder and more discouraging than a believer who says not to expect from God., not to believe He will always keep His word and always be there faithfully. That is thee most discouraging kind of person to be around because those Christians are seeing with their natural sight and not by supernatural faith. True faith is a supernatural act with supernatural repercussions. Without faith to live out our life here., our lives will be no different here on earth than the unsaved guy. Yes., if a person accepted Jesus and is born again they will go to heaven but their life here on earth will be devoid of the miraculous.

Amen joaniemarie.

The storms of life come to all of us because we have the world, the flesh and the devil against us but Jesus has overcome them all.

Resting in the Lord is not going through life where there are no attacks against us - it's the complete opposite. They are coming to get us out of "resting" in what the Lord has already accomplished for for us.

Exodus 17:8-16 talks about when the Amalek came to fight against Israel on their way to the promised land ( Which is a type of Christ here on this earth )

The Hebrew word for "steady" used in verse 12 is the word for "believing". This is used in the context of the enemy coming against this rest and Moses sitting down with his hands raised to the Lord and then also needed someone to help him with his "steady" hands lifted up.

So, what does all this say to us? When the enemy attacks with trouble, labor or toil - we sit down and rest and raise our hands to the Lord in faith. Faith is our response.

Others come along beside us to encourage us and we all declare the finished work of our Jehovah Nissi, our banner is the heavenly Joshua. Through the cross and resurrection, Jesus has blotted out the remembrance of the human self-effort of trouble toil and labor ( and yet there is a toil and labor of love in the Lord that comes by grace to do what the Lord has called each of us individually to do - how that looks is different for each part of the body ) - so that we can rest in Him.

We can rest in Him even while enduring the most difficult circumstances. We can set our minds on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand and that we have died and our life is hidden with Him in God. We are feasting on God's love, peace and grace for us in the very presence of our enemies.

Resting in what Christ has already done and who we are in Him now is our true warfare of "fight the good fight of faith."

Resting in what Christ has already done and who we are in Him now is our obedience.

Resting in what Christ has already done and who we are in Him now is our faith in action.

many refuse to lay down their weapons of war (sin), and surrender all to God, if not one still remains at war with HIM...very scary place to be....be blessed
