This seems to be a chapter of the Bible that everyone has their own ideas about. When it comes down to 24-27, we must all admit that when we first read it, and looked to understand it, we were a bit at odds with our selves. Well ok may not everyone.
Yet as many people know there are many ways this is seen, and understood, why is it that some can't see anything other what they have been told. I know some are willing to openly look at something new, even if it holds no real relevants to their understanding.
Being kind of new to the study of prophecy, I am always seeking the facts, and not the kind of teachings make my eyes glaze over. As we know the Bible gives us everything we need to understand it. Yet I have heard some teachings on this chapter, that seem to be more fantastic than anything.
If I may, I will pace what I have found here. Then if any one see's where I may be going wrong, can you explain where and why? Keep in mind, I am a man with a thousand questions. It may seem as though I am trying to make a mountin out of a mole hill, yet is through my questions, that I seek the truth.
Here we go.
Dan 9:24 “A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place.

Now the Most Holy Place here, is the Holy of Holies am I right? If so then this may end up talking of Dan. 8 as well.

Dan 9:25 Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler—the Anointed One comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times.

I have heard many teachings on this one passage. Some say it was Cyrus, others say Darius, and some, Artaxerxes. My reason for thinking it has to Cyrus, is that Is.44:28 tel us that Is.44:28 tells us that HaShem chose Cyrus for this job. The math doesn't fit most teaching if we use Cyrus, yet in my mind that is due to us not really know how add. LOL Sounds stupid once I look at it. Yet even Daniel was having trouble with the math. Or at lest it seems that way from the opening of this chapter. So just how are we to know something that Daniel was having a problem with?

Dan 9:26 ¶“After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end.

Now here is where Things ca take a turn one way or the other. I am going to ask that we look at this ruler that will destroy the temple. I know that a lot of people teach this was Titus. I kind of understand why, being how we look at things from mans point of view. So I ask, can it be that we are seeing this wrong? In, "The Complete Works of Josephus" Book 6 chapter 4, page 896. Josephus tells us that Titus gave orders NOT to harm the Temple. When he went to sleep, the 10th, or 11th legion burned the Temple, and when told Titus gave orders to put out the fire and save the Temple. By our way of thinking, they were under his command, that makes him the one that did the deed.
Yet are we looking at this in the proper manner? After all we know that in the Eyes of HaShem, every man is responsible for their own actions. There is no record of the an that started the fire, or even what legion he was really in. Yet we do know, that the 10th, 11th, and 12th, were made of mostly Muslim nations. So would it not make more sense to say that it will be from that people, this prince will arise?

Dan 9:27 The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.”

Now I have heard that this is talking of Artaxerxes. Yet that doesn't add up in my little brain. If t it was him, then why after his defilement does Yeshua tell us,

Mat 24:15 ¶“The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!)

Seems to me that this is talking of something still to come. When I pointed this out, I was told that it was talking of Titus. Yet that still doesn't add up. As Titus never placed anything in side the Temple.
Any help here would be great. I may ask some questions as I said. After all, I have never just taken anyone's word for fact, unless they can explain it in a logical manner. If I start to become to demanding with what I may ask, sorry. It is after all, just me. So please over look that.

My view.....

7 years (70th week)

First 1185 days applied to the ministry of JESUS unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
Christ put an end to the sacrifices by his death, burial and resurrection
Dan 12 Exactly 1335 days left to deal with Israel broken down as follow....

1260 days of the great tribulation
30 days of peace
abomination set (idol of the beast)<--1290th day
45 days of wrath

A very short summation for sure

I think I am misunderstanding something here. Are saying that Dan. 9:27 is talking of Yeshua? If so, may I ask when He confirmed a 7 year covenant?
Sorry that one took me off guard to say the lest. I have heard it before, well at lest something like it.

The conformation of the covenant was his ministry and death, burial and resurrection.....they rejected and will now endure the last 1335 days Daniel 12........His ministry, all O.T. prophecies fulfilled and his death CONFIRMED the new Covenant with them.......I have not believed the majority view for some time.......I have one P.C. that is down right now (cannot get it to come on and need to take to get fixed) on it I have the study that I base my belief on....it seems to fit rather well....but a always willing to a greater understanding.....

If I can please permit me to go through one paragraph at a time.

A little about the Book of Daniel first....It was written 300 years before Jesus told Mat 24:15,16, that Daniel was a Prophet.
Gabriel (the Angel) interrupted Daniels Prayer (Daniel 9:1-23) who gave him the Prophecies of God..verses 24-27.
Daniel 9 is all about the people of Israel and Jerusalem then and in the future.
The prophecies of Daniel (through Gabriel) are not of his Timeline but our Timeline.

Dan 9:24 “A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place.

The 70 sets of 7 equal to 490 years or 173,880 days. This paragraph (verse 24) will set the stage for the following three verses.
and it also tells us[ just WHEN will these things happen.

To this day some 2500 years after Daniel speaks these words; Have any of them come true:

have any of the rebellions (Jewish against God) stopped? NO. Preterist argue this happened in 70AD
Has there been an end to all sins of the Israel/world? NO. Preterist argue this happened in 70AD
Israel atoned for their sins? NO Here one can make the argument that Jesus's death and resurrection atone for the sins
To bring in everlasting Righteousness? NO Not yet but Preterist will argue this is happening today.
To confirm Prophetic vision? NO Have we seen the AoD yet and No it did not happen in 70AD
To annoint the Most Holy Place? NO

To end verse 24; after 2400 years these prophecies have not happened to the People of Israel or Jerusalem. Thus this verse sets the terms of the next three to be in the future of today.

The Most Holy of Holies is indeed the place where God could come down to be among his people. While he can not stand sin, the Holy of Holies had a veil separating it from the rest of the temple.Only the High priest can go into the Holy of Holies once per year in preparation of the "Day of Atonement".

DC as far as Daniel 8 goes, it is about the Ram and Goat or commonly know as Alexander's amazing life. Chapters 2 thru 7 were written in Aramaic (Times of the Gentiles) and Chapters 8 through 12 are Hebrew with the attention to Israel and her people.

The only thing I don't understand is if, this is still all in a time to come, How is it that the Temple was destroyed, and we can see the uprising of what many call the anti-Christ.

Rainrider. Verse 25 main part is "from the time the Command is given to rebuild the Streets and walls of Jerusalem.

the KJV of Verse is as follows: 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Artaxerxes Longimanus ascended to the throne of the Medo-Persian empire in July 465 B.C. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 1990 ed.). The twentieth year of his reign would have begun in July 446 B.C. The decree occurred approximately nine months later in the month of Nisan (March/April on our calendar). By Hebrew tradition when the day of the month is not specifically stated (as in Artaxerxes decree), it is given to be the first day of that month. Consequently, the very day of Artaxerxes' decree was the first day of the Hebrew month Nisan in 445 B.C. The first day of Nisan in 445 B.C. corresponds to the 14th day of March. These dates were confirmed through astronomical calculations at the British Royal Observatory and reported by Sir Robert Anderson (Robert Anderson, "The Coming Prince", Kregel. Reprinted in 1984.).

You are correct that Cyrus issued a decree, so did Darius and so did Artaxerxes (TWICE). It was on this fourth decree that the prophecy begins because the streets and walls in very troubled times was commisioned.

The seven weeks to rebuild Jerusalem and temple took exactly (49 years) plus the following 62 weeks would come to pass on April 6th , 32AD. [173,880 days in a 360 lunar calendar from the date of (Nissan 1, 445BC)= March 14th, 445 BC ] Yet Daniel wrote this verse in 537 BC.

My view.....

7 years (70th week)

First 1185 days applied to the ministry of JESUS unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
Christ put an end to the sacrifices by his death, burial and resurrection
I usually agree with you on most things, but not this one. It's fine though :)

Here are my thoughts...

There's a distinction made between "He" in V26 and "he" in V27. A capital letter is always used when God is mentioned, and a lower case for everyone else. This is just additional confirmation, because as I see it the prince in V27 is Antichrist, not Jesus.

Daniel 9:26: "And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah (Jesus) shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people (Romans) of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary...."

Yes, Messiah was cut off/crucified (fulfilled)
The Romans then destroyed the temple (fulfilled)
The future prince who is to come (not yet fulfilled) - it gives a clue by saying the people who destroyed the temple (Romans) are of the prince to come, so we know the future prince is someone from the revived Roman empire.

Continuing......

Daniel 9:27: "Then he (roman prince) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (7 yrs);
But in the middle of the week (3.5 yrs)
he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering (he will break the contract)(sounds like a peace treaty)
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”

None of verse 27 has has been fulfilled yet, which points to it taking place in the last days/Great tribulation.

The first attack on Jerusalem, because Israel rejected Christ,so God allowed the Roman Empire to scatter the Jews in to the nations.

But God said He would bring the Jews back to their land, and will bring them to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah.

God is going to give the world 7 years to have their way,and cause all people who do not love Him to follow a kingdom that ackowledges no God,and exalts people, and that kingdom will persecute all people that hold the testimony that Jesus is Lord and Savior.

They will persecute the saints for three and one half years, then those saints that remain will be gathered unto Christ, and then they will attack Jerusalem, which God will come back with all the saints, and defeat the world, and save Israel.

The second attack on Jerusalem, because they accepted Christ, and God saves the Jews.

Israel is blinded in part, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in,which means,Israel does not recognize Jesus as their Messiah, although they heed the Old Testament, until salvation is no longer available to the Gentiles, and then God will turn Israel to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah, but there are Jews that believe in Jesus, but Israel as a nation will come to the truth, and the Gospel is out in the world, but this turning Israel to the truth will be done by God sending 2 witnesses to Israel.

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Israel has 70 weeks,490 years,to come to the truth, and anoint the most holy, who is Jesus, and 69 weeks have passed, but the last week will be the time that God brings Israel to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah, and cause all people that do not love Him to follow the beast kingdom.

But Israel has not come to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah yet.

When they were scattered in to the nations, because of their rejection of Christ, they did not acknowledge Jesus as their Messiah, until they became a nation again, because their nation was temporarily put on hold for them, and they were not together as a nation.

When they became a nation again until now they do not recognize Jesus as their Messiah.

So the last week has not happened.

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Daniel 9:26 speaks of the prince to come, the antichrist, man of sin,the beast, and verse 27 continues speaking of the prince to come, that will establish a peace treaty with Israel, and it will cause peace in the Middle East, and the 7 years period will begin, and the time the world says,Peace and safety,in which the Gentile nations will come together to try to establish peace on earth.

Which the prince to come, the man of sin, will claim to be the Jews,God and Messiah, and will deceive all those who do not love God to follow the beast kingdom, which he will be of the occult, witchcraft, acknowledge no personal God,but honors the God of forces,or the power of nature, and in to spiritual evolution through nature, and has power over all nations, kindreds, and tongues, and will spread his falsehood, abominations, that exalts people throughout the earth.

Some people believe the 70th week has occurred, but God said He is going to gather all nations together against Jerusalem, and the 4th kingdom shall devour the whole earth, tread it down, and break it in pieces, and the beast kingdom has power over all nations, kindreds, and tongues.

The saints shall be able to see and know of things that occur on different part of the earth, which can only be known by technology, they shall be hated of all nations, and the Gospel will be preached in to all the world as a witness to all nations.

The man of sin will claim to be God,who will be of the new age movement, and witchcraft, which are lying wonders, which the great wonders will appear so real that it would deceive the very elect if possible, but it is not possible, for they know the beast is against God,and they hold unto God,and the testimony of Jesus.

He will set up the abomination of desolation, and because of his occult ways that he spreads throughout the world for three and one half years,God will go against them and put them down.

They say the millennial reign is spiritual, but why is it only for a 1000 years, when Jesus has been ruling ever since He ascended to heaven, and He rules with an iron rod,but during the time of His ascension until now, there has still been wars, and disobedient people, and people sinning.

The 70th week has not happened yet,and it is the time that God causes all people that do not love Him to follow the beast kingdom, and brings Israel to the truth that Jesus is their Messiah.

The prince to come, the man of sin, confirms the covenant, and the last 7 years will start, and he will play a role of dealing with Israel to deceive them that he is their God and Messiah, and to deceive all those who do not love God to follow the beast kingdom.

How does 7 years apply to Jesus.Because of that covenant for 7 years, there is peace in the Middle East, and the Jews go back to animal sacrifices with no hassle from the Palestinians to the location they build their temple, and in the middle of the 7 years period the prince to come will tell them to stop animal sacrifices, and he is their God and Messiah, and then he will put forth his agenda to the world that is based on the occult, spiritual evolution, and the way to have peace on earth, and will spread his abominations throughout the world.

Messiah (Jesus) shall be cut off, but not for Himself;

Daniel 9:27: "Then he (roman prince) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (7 yrs);

I use to think it was Rome as well. Then I read Josephus, SO if I may ask, " If Titus did give an order not to harm the Temple, and it was done i the heat of battle. Then did his best to stop the fire, and save what was salvageable. Why would it be correct to place this action on Titus? Not saying you are wrong. Lord knows I am a long way from even being a pimple on the nose of a true authority. Yet one cn not learn if they don't ask.
Thank you for your time in reading this. And May you blessed for your time in answering.

I know at some point you folks are going duct tape my hands so I can't keep asking questions. Until then I can see I am going to have 1000's of them. It does look as though we see this in much the same light. As I have seen some of my own thinking in a lot of the replies I have gotten.
Here is another part of my reasoning for not thinking Rome will give up the anti-christ. Now if I am misunderstanding this, please point me in the right direction.
2Jo 1:7 I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.

The RCC doesn't do this, do they? If not then how can they be the people talked of in Dan.? Am I getting out side of what Word is telling us? I know I was always told that any thing from the Word, must always be in full context of the Word from Gen.-Rev.

Thank you once more for your help, and may HaShem bless everyone that has replied.

Absolutely wrong I am afraid.

Solomon's Temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar in 587BC. The temple destroyed by the Romans was Zerubabbel's temple built from 521-516BC, and then later reconstructed by Herod.

If you cannot get the History right, you will come up with all sorts of garbage.

Sorry, cruel to be kind. :)

“Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.
25
“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times.
26
“And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined.
27
Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”

Verse 24 is a summation of verses 25-27, "
or your people and for your holy city" sums up verse 25, "to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity," verse 26, "to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy." verse 27. So it goes from the rebuilding of the Temple and Jerusalem to the ministry and death of Jesus to the consummation or the completion of all things into the eternal state. Now I know in part but then I will know as I am known or no more prophecy.
