I thought it would be interesting to read what folks here believe a spirit to be. God made the body of Adam from the earth and then breathed into that body the spirit of life and THEN man became a living soul. So what makes us a living being is the spirit that God has placed within us, so we humans have a spirit. Also, God and all the heavenly host are spirit beings, but then so are Satan and all those who follow him. So what is a spirit?

It's the invisible inclinations of the heart and the mind of a man that make manifest his visible vessel of his body (before men) and his invisible soul (before GOD)

GOD breathed into man the breath of life
HE did not breath into man HIS OWN SPIRIT

That only comes through faith in CHRIST and being reborn of HIS LIFE-GIVING LIFE-LEADING SPIRIT

God is the sovereign creator of all things spiritual and natural...And God is pure spirit.
Genesis says that he created us in his image, so with that and other descriptions of spiritual beings, it seems that the natural realm is an image of the spiritual realm. Since the spirit realm was created first.

Review, Revelations 4:1-11

Adam (man) was flesh first. And after that came spirit

The natural realm is not an image of the spiritual teslm

if that were truth we wouldn't be praying for GOD's KINGDOM to come, nor GOD's WILL to be done

it would just be
but we know that's not true because Adam did not do GOD's will perfectly

he did from his own free will spirit what was clearly against and in disobedience to GOD's SPIRIT

So what is a spirit?
My take is that spirit is the Life Force that indwells every
living cell of every organism, including animals and plants.
Spirit was breathed into Adam and Eve, and the first animals, by God
Himself, and whenever sperm meets egg, that spirit is continued.
Soul, otoh, is consciousness and emotional capacity,
therefore people and animals have soul, and plants do not.
The difference between us and animals is free will.
We are able to make decisions based on right and wrong.
Animals are only able to decide based on instinct and/or training.

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us,
and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection
unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Adam was both man and spirit.

The life of the flesh is the blood.
The life of the blood is the spirit.

There is more than one kind of spirit and the word spirit has a much more in depth meaning and purpose than the word spirit implies. For instance ever heard the term the spirit of Christmas? It is not meaning an actual being but rather a sensual mind set or sense of being in a person, the Christmas spirit is one that has always fascinated me, every time Christmas comes around I see the spirit of Christmas in everything I just tend to see through different set of eyes and get a sense of unique joy and beauty and wonder that I have only come to know at that time of year.

Or consider this, there is another kind of spirit I have been fascinated and that is the human spirit, not in terms of sin or human spirit vs. Gods spirit but rather I have noticed that yes while we humans can go as far as even the devil himself and can shine as bright and as pure as God's light itself the human spirit within the human race is unique because while we humans are flawed in many ways whenever tragedy happens we tend to come together and when things get very hard and hope is nowhere in sight even in our darkest and weakest moments we never truly give up.

A spirit is not always a being of any kind a lot of times it is a way of being. I myself have what you might call the spirit of a child, I see things through the eyes of a child as in I see the world in a different light than most adults do, not always candy and rainbows mind you but A child tends to see things through different lenses and has a sense of innocence both of which I have been well known to have in fact it's kind of funny how even when I first meet a person they always tell me how I seem so innocent and pure lol. A persons spirit can greatly affected the world around them, it can be the eyes and lenses they see through or it can be how they affect others the interact with or it can also be the vibe they give off when speaking or being around people.

Yes God breathed into man His Spirit and with animals also. Psalm 104:Lord how manifold are Your works in wisdom You have made them all...they wait upon You to give then their food in due season...you take away their spirit and they die and return to the dust...you send forth YOUR SPIRIT and they are created. All Spirit that gives life comes from God, that is why it says that God breathed into Adam the spirit of life(spirit from God). If you think this was just talking about air then find a perfect human body that is dead and see if just filling the lungs with air will bring that body to life.

A spirit is us (you, me, the Lord, and everybody else, apart from our earthly bodies).

Do you believe the spirit and soul are different? The soul is who we are, our mind, emotions, will. Our spirit is what contacts God, though of course God can contact our mind if He wants to. Those who pray in the unknown tongue say that their mind, does not know what is being said, but their spirit does.

It's hard to put this into words, but I fear you are being too technical. I am me. I can call myself a spirit, or I can call myself a soul, though I found something in the Bible that suggested I might be wrong about being a soul. (I once defined my soul as the "room" inside me where I talked with the Lord.) Anyway, we can't divide ourselves up. We are who and what we are regardless of whether we call ourselves a spirit or a soul. Yes?

Yeshua is a Spirit, and every single thing that He has made was made from His Spirit,
thus how could His Spirit be not a part of each and every thing that He has created,,,
for this is Him, creating everything from and for Himself, in His Holiness?...

the difference lies in His creation of man', us, whom He has chosen to be a special part
of His Holiness and His 'Holy Family'...of course I can't read His mind, but He has told us
through His Word, that He has specifically 'chosen' us' above ALL things that He has created
through His un-fathomable Love to live with Him for eternity...

now, 'conversion' is another thing all together, this is the manifestation of the Gift of God
for eternal life through His Holy Spirit, a special Gift, given to those whom Love and obey
His Holy Commandments written upon the heart, separated, for His own personal purpose...

it's really just to awesome and as many of us have discovered, we will not understand all of His Ways,
until our futures unfold as He has ordained..,

Do you mean the Adam referenced in Luke 3:38 and who was born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God?
