Pride.

Pride was the first sin I have found in the Bible even before Adam and Eve sinned.

Pride before a fall? NO! This is misquoted. It is more serious then that!
Pride before DESTRUCTION and haughtiness before a fall.

Pride can be one of the most difficult sin for an individual to notice within him or herself. The world tries to push pride by disguising it in a mild or altered form. Pride in ones appearance. Pride in ones social status etc.
The truth is no matter what position one has worked up to or how one looks, one is no better then the lowest of the low in Gods eyes as He loves you equally as a drunken drug taking homeless man or woman. To God, he loves the rich, the poor the free and the slave all the same. All are His and every one He would come down and give His life for again if He had to!
So if you are down in the gutter...God loves YOU! If you are at the top of society... God loves YOU!

Good one! If I understand properly, pride is the root cause of all sin.

Rebellion gives way to deception and deception then leads to pride...

Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Matthew 12:30-32
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

I think rebellion comes from pride (if the rebellion is unwarranted, there are many rebellions warranted). There's also reverse pride, when people are proud of NOT being wealthy or NOT being educated, or NOT being part of the elite. There's a version of pride in not having or not being.

You can even be prideful that you are humble.

LOL That reminds me of the young fellow about forty five years ago...bragging on how he had learned humility.

Pride is a dangerous sin.

Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

1Ti 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

1Ti 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1Ti 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

1Co 4:6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
1Co 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

Pride is indeed a very dangerous sin and it is indeed easy to have sneak into your heart and not even take notice, I have caught myself being prideful at times without even meaning to be prideful. It is absolutely vital to always search our own hearts and it can be scary doing so because we may in fact find something hidden deep in it that we really don't want to believe is there.

Some ignore the things they find in there as it is too difficult for some to come to acceptance of the darkness they find in their own hearts, but there are those who make it a point to always search their own hearts bravely venturing deep deep within their own hearts to see what they find and when they do find such darkness they don't run from it or pretend it's not there they ask God to cleanse the darkness from their hearts.

Such people are willing to go that far because the heart they are seeking is not their own but Gods, it doesn't seem like such a scary thing to search ones own heart but when you truly probe to the depths of your heart what you find there may be very difficult to deal with

It is a more difficult concept to grasp that one. It is where aspects become more cloudy and less defined.
For an example of this. With little funds, to continue to enjoy my model railroad hobby, I resorted to being clever and make my own things where I can to save cost, and I encourage others also to give it a go. Now is this taking pride of not having the wealth to buy ready made items in the hobby?
An interesting concept as it is harder to define.
Having pride in wealth and social status is very easy to find when other see certain individuals who have such a weakness. I'm certainly not saying all wealthy people have this weakness as I even go as far as saying that most dont or it will be far more apparent, especially where I live. Understandably, most who have this weakness of character dont know they have it. It is why the UK comedy series "Keeping Up Appearances" is so funny where the leading character who acts the part of such an individual does things that are plainly silly to those around her but are logical to her!
It is funny the program also displays relations with extreme opposites to set the scene!
