I work in the computer field and I often have to install new software. Invariably, there is a check box during installation that says "I have read and accept this license agreement." My problem is that I rarely bother to read the license agreement, but in order to use the software I have to say I did.

Is it a sin to say you have read a software license agreement when you have not?

I understand the issue as I remember when MSN changed to Skype. I didn't sign up as I started to read the legalities and the first page had umpteen offshoots leading to other pages with umpteen offshoots and they had pages with more pages and more!
It would take weeks if I understood legal jargon to read it. And that is the issue. Somewhere things can be hidden that one may find one is breaking some rule somewhere.... Is bad.I never signed for Skype.
My brother had set up the MSN so not sure what he did there.

LOL, seriously?

If you are serious.......

Perhaps you should read the "license agreement"... just once.
In increments of course....
Then you won't have a guilty conscience. :)

Besides, it might make for a good conversation piece with your customers.

I think it has it's problems, like agreeing without reading, than your info is shared, or you're charged for something. You can not fight it in court, because you agreed. It does affect you in a negative way

I actually do read them from time to time, but today it would have added a half an hour to my work if I had really read all the license agreements I claimed to have read.

Wouldn't wasting all that time be stealing from my employer?

I really think there is an issue here. While the legal side may well be needed, the masses put forward one needs to real makes most just sign which is a mistake.
If none of us signed without reading they would soon make it just the single page! And here is the point. When it is pages and pages a lot can be hidden in such pages as they dont do this for no reason as they have to pay for legal experts to write the stuff!

I don't think the folks who write all that stuff believe that most people read all of it. I do not see it as a lie at all because all that fine print is made to protect them, therefore you are required to sign and take responsibility, if you are willing to take the responsibility without reading it all then that is your choice. They want your signature, and they have to give you the warning in writing, it is really up to you if you read all of it or not.

Wouldn't reading it be a part of your job? Would your employer want you protecting their best interest? I guess I don't see it as stealing, unless your employer already read it, and told you to go ahead and just sign up.

Just with education you would be surprised how so many wrong concepts slipped in because people didn't bother reading the small print.
Just on this subject, a lady called Charlotte Iserbyt has exposed some of the history behind the small print and how hidden agendas were brought into government policies in the USA and round the world.

That is true, but have to ask why someone would sign something they did not understand?

Because it's a piece of software that you really want/need to use, have used it for years and have never, or actually, quite possibly have violated the EULA but it never mattered anyway.
