sounds obvious, and for the Christian it is....but I want to focus on something that I have found a lot of Christians don't understand.

In scripture, Jesus says that "Satan is the father of lies, and when he lies he speaks according to his character."

So, what does Satan lie about?

I would like to suggest that foremost he lies about what we want. He makes us believe that we want things we do not want at all...

This is the beginning of all sin and deception. And, if we let ourselves be swayed and led astray we end up far off course.

It just came to my mind the attitude of my heart toward prayer. When I am in prayer, and resting In God's presence, it seems like the sweetest thing in the world, and I would not give anything to be taken from it...but when I have made a habit of not being always retreating into my prayer "huddle with God", I find Satan lying to me and causing the "noise of this world" distracting me from prayer.

I know its the same with everyone, I see it all the time--how someone can go from being at peace with God and content to being consumed with busy-ness and not doing the thing that is essential...reminds me of Mary and Martha...it seems like there is too much work/fun to be done than to just pray, and pray begins to seem less and less fun and profound...

Like tonight, I could stay awake to pray, but my body is deceiving me into thinking I need not pray and saying, what I need is sleep and sleep will heal me in a way that prayer cannot. I am not saying we do not need sleep. But Jesus stayed awake many nights in prayer, retreating to the hill, and this was not for himself but "to show us something essential". He also slept when everyone else was rowing on the lake, so we can see that he did sleep.

Anyway, I am getting a bit sidetracked. I think if we listen to Jesus when he prayed with his soul sorrowful to death, about their spirits being willing but their bodies being weak, we may learn something about pressing forward into God's presence.

I am not saying to constantly talk or tell God things, but draw near to listen to what he tells you and be at peace.

God's plans are always awesome. But Satan also plays a subtle trick in leading us astray. He convinces us either that we "are too insignificant to make a difference" or that "it does not matter what we do" which are both lies. There is a point in modesty of understanding that before God we are but dust and ashes, but we also have to stand in Jesus and say we are also beloved of God for Jesus' sake and that makes every Christian amazing...and the second is one I struggle with now, God gives me awesome things to do and instead of audaciously doing them, I put them on a check list and wait for "when I feel like doing them". The lie here is that Satan--like he did with Job--can often play with how we feel in situations and make every moment feel like the wrong moment though God gave us a truth to share with somebody or a group of people, or perhaps just something wonderous to do in Jesus' name. It is not "us" who do them, but it is important to "forcefully advance into the kingdom" as the Bible says...if there were not opposition, no one need force their way into it, but the Bible warns us that we will be opposed. The Jews would have whistled Dixie into the promised land instead of being terrified at first at physical appeareances, and then only forty years later having the courage that comes with God.

I once told a group of young adults that Satan loves to twist the scripture where Jesus says that the Pharisees strain out a gnat and swallow a camel. The devil often twists this verse in people's minds and hearts into thinking that camels are gnats. What I mean is that Satan would convince us that every pit he puts in our way is really just a puddle and that "such and such a sin is acceptable within certain limits" but "that abomidable other sin is comdemnation." Not hating on 'organized churches', but I have often seen churches that swallow greed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and in their high esteem commend themselves for certain other menial sins. I understand in a 'human way' why this is, "almost everyone wants to be rich" so greed of whatever form is acceptable to most people to a certain limit...but we have to remember that other word Jesus said that "what is highly valued among men is an abomination in the sight of God. And also, how he describes the person fasting and looking down on the humble tax collector's prayer...

So how has satan lied to you? Lets expose the traps of the enemy. And help those caught by some net.

God bless
tony

I once spoke of it a post--about the need to be right. Sometimes the argument really ceases to be about being "right" and becomes about pride.

Satan wants you to feel quilty. Anything you do isn't enough so why bother. Satan wants you to be lazy so you never do your destiny God meant for you. Satan certaintly doesn't want you to use the powers God has given or wants to give you. Satan doesn't want you to know who he is. As long as the Christians are sitting on the side lines watching they are no threat to him. They have turned their power over to him and don't know it. Satan wants God people to think they are to be poor. Only the evil can have riches. Although the bible is full of people of God doing his will and they were rich.

When Jesus said that Satan is the father of lies, the wording is really the father of "the lie." When we answer the question what "the lie" is, we have gained much in knowing ourselves as we are, and can learn who God is then.

satan convinced me that the bottom line for my Christianity was obediance to God's good laws,(being good enough) rather than faith in Christ. I just became a worse sinner. But then although I didn't know it at the time I had a very famous Christian predecessor who found the same thing. Rom7:7-11

"The lie" is that we can be good enough to be like God, by having the knowledge of good and evil. Satan wants to, has always wanted to be like God, and the lie is that we can be like God also.

But the truth is that by being born again of the Spirit, by faith in Jesus Christ, we become God's children. Something Satan can never do.

Satan is indeed the father of all lies. He creates what I call, "False Hope" an example of this usage for instance: A Muslim claims that Allah has given him insight into things and has shown him the way of righteousness. This is Satan creating false hope in ones heart. Satan does not work through but one religion, he works through them all. Satan is known as Shaitan in the Qur'an. He uses this method of creating false hope as much as he can. It is one of his greatest weapons against man kind, and it goes hand in hand with Satan being the father of all lies, he probably lies to Person A to create false hope within them. And the heart of man can easily be tempted and corrupted by one such as Satan. That is why we must keep our guard at all times, Satan eagerly waits for the instant that we let it down.

Satan's greatest lie is that Christians are condemned for their sins. But the secret to overcoming the Romans 7 experience lies in Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

After we know God's love fully and have experienced it fully, I don't think that satan could do anything to convince us to avoid Prayer or Bible time. Hearts that love God fully could never be held back.

I say this of course without a full experience of God's love. But I am convinced that it must be so, as Jesus said that those who hunger and thirst shall be filled.

When Jesus was talking to the Jews, He told them that they were of their father, the devil. He stated that the devil always lies, and that he is the father of "The Lie." This lie is the same one which caused Adam and Eve's fall, that they could and would be like God, knowing good from evil. In truth, this is one of the effects that the Law has on the natural man, and it allows him to judge. If we do not have knowledge of good and evil, we cannot judge, and we know that only God is worthy to judge, because He not only knows good from evil, but He is good, and He is light, and there is not any darkness in Him at all.

The truth of Jesus is that even though we were dead in our sins, condemned to death forever, in Jesus, God has brought us back to Himself, regardless of our sins. There is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus because Jesus took all of the condemnation from us and turned it into righteousness. Yes, the devil will try to make one feel condemned, but the Spirit is our seal of righteousness in Him. If the truth were taught, as it is in Christ Jesus, this lie would have almost no effect.

God is looking for those who will walk with Him, in truth and in love, forsaking all other things for Him. He is in us, with us, around us, always, never to leave us by ourselves. We don't need to go anywhere to find Him, merely open our hearts to Him and let Him in. He is with us, even past the end of all things, into the beginning of the new.

In His love,
vic

I would like to point out that Jesus ultimately defeated Satan and the only thing Satan can do is lie. That's it. He can't actually do anything else. He's defeated. So, if we stay in God's Word and know His truths, we know to stay away from the lies. And there's nothing Satan can do to ruin our relationship with God or tamper with our salvation. Really. Satan has already been rendered powerless by Jesus.

The devil roams around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

The devil come to steal and to kill and to destroy.

His lies are a big part of what the devil does in the world and in the mind of those who believe in Jesus, but it is not all that he does. Spiritual creature that he is, he can influence things in the physical realm also.

It is true that he has been defeated, actually he never had a chance, and God actually was not concerned with confronting him, but negating what he caused to come about. God could cause the devil to cease to exist without any effort at all.

He may come to do those things, but it doesn't mean that he can. He's not like God--he ws only an angel. He's not even omnipresent, so what makes us think that he can do so much in so many places? He can't be everywhere at once--the Bible never says that. He was only an angel. But now he is powerless. He can only be in one place at once--so what makes the individual so important to him that we think he wants to mess with us? Wouldn't he go for someone with more influence and try to tell them his lies?

Did you ever hear the story about the man who saw Paul casting out demons in the name of Jesus. He thought that this was just too cool, so he tried his hand at it. He knew a guy who had several demons, and he went to his house and tried to cast them out in the name of Jesus whom Paul preached.

The demons told him that they knew Jesus, and that they even knew Paul, but they did not know who he was. They beat the man, tore off his clothes, and chased him away naked.

But that is beside the point. What the devil does, what power he has, is the same power he has always had. He lies and he can make people believe the lies. Even christians. What lie does he tell us? Anything, anything at all which takes our eyes and our thoughts and most especially our hearts off of Jesus, away from a simple devotion to Him. And it works, amazingly well.

No, the devil is not powerless. It is said that when he fell from heaven that he took one third of the angels with him, which someone once said was on the order of a trillion or so. His influence is everywhere.

But thinking that he would want to mess with persons of importance, you misunderstand his motives. He hates God, with an everlasting and burning hatred. And, we are God's children, born of Him in the Spirit. Makes us someone he hates with an unreasoning hatred.

I don't want to and will not give him any power or authority that he does not have, but I will not turn my back on him and believe that he is powerless. That is the surest road to defeat that I have ever heard.

Satan's lies can be like a cloud, that distorts and obstructs our vision. He makes things muddy, when they should be clear. He makes things complicated, when they should be simple. He makes things which are horrid and awful seem right and good, while making the good things of God to seem senseless or even wrong. He is a liar and he steals the truth from people. Much of what the world sees as good are a direct result of his lies.

He is intelligent, and knows how to gain his aims without exerting his greatest strength, but rather with the least action that he can use to do as he wants. The reason for this is the subtlety of using the least force masks him and his aims. When his minion, the beast, is in the world, revealed as the supposed savior of the world, he will show miracles and wonders to compete with God's power. But he does this then because he knows that his time is short, that he must act in strength to deceive as many as possible, to bring down as many of those who could be God's children as he can. Again, at the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ, he will be released from his prison once again, to deceive again, and he will lead many to destruction, the judgment and eternal condemnation reserved for him and those angels who followed him.

We should be aware of his schemes, so as not to be caught unaware. The Holy Spirit will guide us in our fight for the truth against the lie.

Nothing is new under the sun. The Devil's first lie to mankind is just being recycled, reinvented, and is updated evertime. ''you surely shall not die'' we all know that one day we will die, but we live our life as if we are not going to die. We subconsciously think that we won't die, or even if we are to die, we can still buy time, or since you are not sick, you still have long days. We are also not aware of the spiritual death that occurs when the dart of sins hits our souls, never mind the moving graves. Noone argues with physical death, what about the second death? There lies the lie, ''you surely shall not die''

Our churches still tell us many truths. That Christ died for us, that salvation is only through His blood not through even what we do, that we are to worship in spirit and truth. It is good.

However, Satan has added so many lies our entire world is deep in immorality. We are told obeying law is denying Christ. We are told that we must not listen to the OT, God changed when Christ lived as a man and was crucified. That Christ finished everything told in the OT, when He replaced animal blood, the priests, and the temple it wiped out all God principles and instructions. We are instructed by satan in our churches we that must not listen to any of what God said in AD.

The church tells us that from creation to the year 30 there was one God who was to be listened to, but then there was a new God. That God, we are told, passed away, now we have a new God.
