Believe everything that God says, even if you don't understand it. Trust everything that God says, even if you are struggling.

Lord Jesus chose to be born in one of the lowliest places on earth, I can only assume He chose a woman whose heart was such also.

Psalm 138:6
Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

Proverbs 3:34
Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Proverbs 11:2
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Proverbs 16:19
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Martha was troubled and worried about the cares of this world. Mary had her affections set on Jesus and his word.

Mary chose the good part because she had her affections set on Jesus and things above and not things of this earth.

Okay, picture this: Jesus comes to your home. Can you imagine? Martha is in the kitchen preparing a meal fit for Jesus and his disciples - she is in the role of the hostess. Mary, her sister, is awed by the fact that Jesus is visiting their home and just sits in awe of the man of God. Now Martha, in the kitchen, pulling out pots, pans, her brow sweating is still serving her Lord because all this preparation is for him but she is getting frustrated (maybe even a little jealous) that she is having to do this while her sister is doing nothing. Where Martha messes up is that she lets her frustration get the best of her and her service is no longer being done in love . . . she wants help! Jesus reprimands her and basically tells her to: "Slow down Martha. Everything does not have to be perfect . . . even a sandwich will do . . . come, enter into my rest. Come sit at my feet, as your sister Mary, and let go of your stress and worry."

Was Mary any better than Martha . . . no . . . Martha just got too wrapped up into making sure everything was perfect . . her heart was in the right place in wanting to serve until she let herself get so frustrated. How many of us get so wrapped up in every day life that we ALWAYS make time for prayer and study? or just sit at Jesus feet?
