This is a survey for those who speak in tongues to inform everyone how you had received this supernatural tongues.

I miss the most common one option, IMHO:

"I was imitating it in the beginning and then, when I got good at it, I began to believe I have it."

My answer is none of the above in the voting. I asked the Father who would not give me a snake if I asked for a fish and then by faith started speaking a few words until now I speak more in tongues then I do in my native tongue when I pray with my spirit. 1 Cor. 14:2, 14.

Luke 11:10-13 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

[SUP]11 [/SUP] "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?

[SUP]12 [/SUP] "Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he?

[SUP]13 [/SUP] "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

In saying that - I received Christ and was baptized into the body of Christ and received the Holy Spirit when I knelt down by my bed when I was around 13 years old.

By speaking in tongues do you mean the ability to communicate using the spoken word? If so then my answer would be from faith to faith since a child can not develop the ability speak unless they are engaged in active use of the spoken word during the small window of time they can actually develop the ability to speak.

While scientist can not actually conduct any testing which is why it is called the forbidden experiment, there have been a number of events which occurred that place the child outside of human contact, and those of child abuse where the child was not exposed to interaction with another person speaking during what the call the critical period of development. As a result the children who were either found and return to society or those who were removed from the abusive homes were found unable to communicate using the spoken word. Even undergoing extensive efforts to teach the children to speak did not result in any of the children ever developing any ability to speak.

Children who are never spoken to will not acquire language. And the language must be used for interaction with the child; for example, a child who regularly hears language on the TV or radio but nowhere else will not learn to talk.
Source Linguistic Society of America

What is ironic is that if man evolved then who taught them how to speak? Mr. Butters?

However, it is written in the book of life that the LORD walked and talked with his children during the first days.
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: Gen 3:8 So how would Adam say he obtained the gift of tongues? And by 'they' it must mean 'the men' who would began to multiply upon the face of the earth as written in Genesis 6:1 but I digress.

I was in Christ years before I started to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit gave me the utterance. Acts 2:4 . I wanted to make sure that was clear.

I don't for a second believe that one needs to speak in tongues to be a Christian or to "prove" that one has Christ in them.

But we do "get" to speak to our Father and speak mysteries to Him in the spirit in our private devotional prayer to Him. 1 Cor. 14:2.

"I will" pray with my spirit and "I will" pray with my mind too.

I also sing with both my spirit and my mind.

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NASB)
[SUP]2 [/SUP] For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

[SUP]15 [/SUP] What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.

I've seen him in other threads.. sometimes a good old fashioned"all I know is I was born blind but now I see" kinda simple answer suffices for onlookers... I have no way to go head to head with doctrine or verses because I didn't study it out in order to be able to teach intellectually.. All I have is my simple experience that was real because I believe what I read.. You can't teach someone how to do that. They either do or don't
you might as well just survey God

I've read your posts. you are extremely anti tongues and you have a nerve to make a thread like this

who do you think you are?

and that's my honest answer

hey guys? if you do speak in tongues, please don't entertain him. he has really crossed the line.

not that anyone will listen, but this thread needs to die

you are not going to convince him of anything. he has taken this up with CS1 and has been rude to him also, so don't waste your time

well he doesn't care about that

it's not only tongues he has an issue with.

if people wanna cast their pearls at him, then let them, but I wouldn't entertain it

it's just really nasty IMO for him to do what he is doing

Clarify, please.

Are you saying you had received Christ at your salvation when you had knelt down at your bed to pray for salvation or..

Are you saying you had received Christ at your salvation and at a later time when you had knelt down to pray to the Father for the gift of tongue, you had received the Holy Spirit at that time in order to get this tongue?

I agree!! I had years of salvation, heart change, life changes, transformation of my mind before I ever spoke in tongues... I wanted them so I believed for them

at this point, I am like if you CHOOSE not to receive, then live with it

the more people oppose what God freely gives, the more their hearts will be hardened. like Pharaoh

I don't make the rules

honest questioning is honest. this, is not honest

this is mocking

why participate?

do you really think that God would have His Spirit raked over the coals by unbelieving mockers?

yes, I am angry at this point because it just goes on and on and on and on

I'm not on here for him particularly.. This can be read by anyone who gets online.. I'm not getting into a debate with him as all my answers will be experience not Bible scripture.. Just as the blind man, experience will go over an unbeliever

of course. I know that

but there are multiples of multiple threads already about tongues for discussion

I think this guy is trying to make a roll call of those who speak in tongues for his own purposes and that is disgusting IMO

Actually, that is factual. Don Reed from Crossing Path's ministry told me to talk like that in speaking in tongues until it comes.

But I stopped because after babbling so long, it can become habitual and hardly supernatural at all. It would just be second nature to speaking which is babbling. I believed I would not get His gift of tongue in that way because the Bible certainly did not teach to get tongues in that way.

Yes but if anyone brings them to the front more than a few will complain about it.. Not to mention some feel they own threads they start.. I'm not getting into all that mess.. unfortunately with turn over you'll have repeats... As for his MO, not my business...
