Stephen, was a newly converted Christian and would have been taught, that after Jesus had been given divine glory by our God, John 20: 17; He had ascended to his Father and our Father, to his God and our God, where he, who is now incontestably divine and sits on the right hand of our God, to where he invites his brothers, who like himself, are able to win the victory over the world, to sit with him in the throne of Godhead to all creation, visible and invisible, See Rev 3: 21. But did Stephen actually see anything? After reading everything that Stephen said, I cant put faith he anything that he had to say.

Stephen, a Greek speaking Jew, who had been dragged before the Jewish authorities by Saul, in defense of his faith before being stoned to death, stated in acts 7: 4, that it was after Terah HAD DIED that his son Abraham obeyed Gods command and went to live in the land of Canaan. But the record in Genesis makes it plain that after Terah had turned 70 not 75 or 80, he became the father of Abraham, Nahor and Haran, and that Abraham was 75 when he travelled to Canaan, leaving his father with his younger brother Nahor, and that his father died 60 years later at the age of 205. Stephens words here are seen to be untrue.

Stephen also states in Acts 7: 15-17, that Abraham bought the grave site for Sarah in the land of Shechem from Hamor, whereas Genesis 23: shows that Abraham bought the grave site from Ephron the Hittite at Machpeleh east of Mamre, which is way to the south of Shechem. Again Stephens words are untrue

It is also said by Stephen in the same verses, that Jacob and his sons were buried at Shechem, when in fact, it was only the remains of Joseph which was buried there, see Joshua 24: 32. Again Stephens words are untrue

Jacob and his other sons were buried at Mamre and concerning the burial of Jacob, it is written in genesis 50: 13, They carried the body of Jacob to Canaan and buried it in the cave at Machpelah east of Mamre in the field which Abraham had bought from Ephron the Hittite.Again Stephens words are untrue.

Stephen also got the number of the family who moved into Egypt wrong.

How many people have we heard or who have written the erroneous statement of Stephen, that it was after his father had died that Abraham Journeyed into the land of Canaan? Just because something is stated in scripture, some people take it to be the gospel truth without checking it out .

Stephen was neither a teacher nor a preacher, but was a newly converted Greek speaking Jew, and because the widows of this group were being neglected in the daily distribution of funds, he with six others were chosen to handle the finances, and although he was filled with the Holy Spirit, he did not speak the truth because he did not know the truth, for knowing the truth has nothing to do with the blessings of the Holy Spirit.

The world is filled with wonderful people who are a blessing to the communities in which they live, and who are ignorant to the truth of Gods word, (Blessed are they who do not see, and yet believe) these people are not filled with knowledge of the truth that is revealed in scripture, but they are filled with the love, the power, and the compassion of the holy Spirit

Jesus told his disciples that the Holy Spirit will lead them to all truth. The Holy Spirit is the teacher without scripture. That is how the disciples learned after Jesus left . the only scriptures they had was the old testament and what Jesus had taught them. the rest came through the Holy Spirit. A man that looked up and saw heaven open before his eyes was truly of God., and scripture says that he was full of the Holy Ghost.

The scriptures do say that he was full of the Holy Spirit, so why does he disagree with the Holy scriptures?

You either believe God's word as recorded in the scriptures, or believe the untruths told by Stephen. Which do you believe?

You don't need scripture to learn the truth of God's word. These scriptures are testamonies of the deciples and apostles of their teaching by the Holy Ghost. these teachings were not in the old testament. ,but they were the revelation of Jesus Christ, and his Gospel.. and they came by way of the Holy Spirit.. Paul was not taught of any man, but by the Holy Spirit only, the teacher of the truth.

Well if the Apostles were like you, and their statements were not accurate memories, then you may as well throw your bible out of the window, but thanks be to God, the Apostles and gospel authors were correct when recalling their memories of Jesus.

Unlike Stephen the newly converted Christian.

Please reveal the truths of God's word without referring to the Holy Scriptures? Paul was taught by the greatest religious teacher of those days, he knew all the scriptures off by heart, it was only after his visitation of Jesus of Nazareth in his new glorified body of brilliant and blinding light, that he saw those scriptures in a different light

You are sadly mistaken, Paul only knew the law of moses and what was in the scriptures of the old testament.. no revelation of Jesus until he was converted when he was knocked from his horse and blinded. Read Galatians ; 1; 11-24.

That's a fair statement... I think.

So, how do we come to trusting that what the writers of the gospels, or any scribes of any book of the Bible, have recalled accurate information?
I don't think it is purely logical conclusions.

How do you know? The Holy Spirit confirms the truth of his word. You don't trust the Holy Spirit to teach you and confirm scripture. That is why there is confusion about scripture. only those that trust the Holy Spirit to teach, and confirm scripture will indeed receive the truth.

So then, if you believe that you have the Holy Spirit, you should be able to tell us what is the truth, Did Abraham buy his family burial site from Ephron the Hittite at Machpeleh east of Mamre, which is way to the south of Shechem. as revealed in Genesis 23; or did he buy his grave site from Hamor the father of Shechem as Stephen the newly converted Christian stated?

Stephen, a Hellenist, was quoting from the LXX and much of what he said agrees with what the LXX says, although it disagrees wit the MT.

If you think that having the Holy Spirit guarantees that you will know the truth about Biblical details you are in grave error.

Correct! The Holy Spirit may lead you into all truth, if you continue in the word of the Lord, but the whole truth will not explode in your brain, immediately on receiving the Holy Spirit.

For the word of God can be likened
To a star that's being ever brightened
By the mind of man reaching ever higher
But those who deviate---They're liars.
In God's word minds mind can grow
But those outside---they're like the snow
That settles on the desert sand
And will melt away before 'I AM.' .......S-word

‘Then Joseph sent and invited his father Jacob and all his relative to come to him, seventy-five in all; so Jacob went down to Egypt. He himself died there as well as our ancestors, and their bodies were brought back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a sum of silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.’ [Acts 7:14-16, NRSV]

So Joseph went up to bury his father. With him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, as well as all the household of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s household. Only their children, their flocks, and their herds were left in the land of Goshen. Both chariots and charioteers went p with him. It was a very great company… Thus his sons did for him as he had instructed them. They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field at Machpelah, the field near Mamre, which Abraham bought as a burial site from Ephron the Hittite. [Genesis 50:7-9, 12-13]

Then he [Jacob] charged them, saying to them, ‘I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my ancestors—in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave in the field at Machpelah, near Mamre, in the land of Canaan, in the field that Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site. There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried; there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried; and there I buried Leah—the field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the Hittites.’ When Jacob ended his charge to his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed, breathed his last, and was gathered to his people. [Genesis 49:29-33, NRSV]

Genesis 23
17So the field of Ephron in Machpelah, which was to the east of Mamre, the field with the cave that was in it and all the trees that were in the field, throughout its whole area, was made over 18to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the Hittites, before all who went in at the gate of his city. 19After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah east of Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. 20The field and the cave that is in it were made over to Abraham as property for a burying place by the Hittites.

I believe you are mistaken S-word because you don't know the bloodlines nor the geography as well as Stephen did.

Ephron the Hittite is a son of Hamor
