Now you are saying something different? I am confused.

Backing out of the "why".....the why is essential, what would I tell the person to whom I am sharing the gospel.

He/She asks. Why should I follow the ten commandments?

Me: No reason...the why does not matter.... just do it
If you're witnessing to a person to get them saved, you don't throw the commandments at them.

First of all they have to come to believe in a personal God and that He cares for them.
They have to understand that they're a sinner and need salvation.

You're either walking toward satan or toward God, there's no third way.
So they need to understand about repentance. And get them walking toward God.

Now.... they ask you "why should I follow the 10 commandments"?

The answer is because God wants His children to obey Him. Like a child obeys his earthly father.
But if they fail, Jesus will pick them up. They're saved now. Their sins will be forgiven. They're SAFE. That's what salvation is all about.

What would YOU answer??
Some here would make it sound like they DON'T HAVE to follow any commandments.

Maybe we should be discussing what salvation is...

Grace why is so hard to understand. Grace is a gift. Jesus is our righteousness, He is our joy He is our Love.
Grace without Love is not really Grace
If in any way you feel like you owe God something for what he's done, I.E pray more tithe more give more, be more, work more, if you have to continually think about the works that you will do

you then are trying to repay something that you never could pay .

If you constantly speak of your love for God, you are missing thee greatest gift that The Father gave us.

That was the gift of his love. Grace is neverr excepted nor believed until you understand His love for You
This is all true.

But we're discussing something and we have to THINK about it if we're going to discuss it.

I don't spend my days thinking About sin.
God is Always with me.

But right now, we need to talk about things we don't think about all the time...

Well it is obvious you will not be persuaded. I met some people where I live that preach this way and it seems to be very popular these days.

You are very sure of the need for obedience to keep salvation, which is your choice, it just makes me sad that you deny yourself assurance, and you will always be unsure.

You have a lot of problems with works if the above is true.
You deny that God Always EXPECTED man to follow His commandments.

THEY ARE REQUIRED TO KEEP SALVATION.

Go back and check out all the IF's in the N.T.
I will no longer post them for you.
You should know them if you know the bible well.

Plus, you never did Mathew.
Incredible.
It's because YOU CANNOT.
The truth would come out. There is NO WAY to explain away many verses...
YOU can only explain away one at a time. How do you twist around a Whole section of a book.

Maybe one day we'll do Galatians.
A book that is speaking to the Jews and to
OBEDIENCE TO THE LAW

It does change to
OBEDIENCE OF FAITH

Not to mention that Galatians is clear....faith plus works to get, keep, finish or maintain = a false gospel with NO POWER, one that is double cursed, different than what Paul preached and equated one to being foolish and bewitched....

The bible is clear....verb tense is clear, context is clear, the verbiage is clear.....it is FAITH and FAITH alone that saves ETERNALLY.........period!

Confusion again...

They're saved now
So now were are eternally saved even when we fail?

By the way if I was asked that question I would not give your answer.
:D

Amen...well said!

Romans 5:17 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ
.

Romans 5:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Galatians 5:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love
.

1 John 4:15-19 (NASB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

[SUP]16 [/SUP] We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

[SUP]17 [/SUP] By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.

[SUP]18 [/SUP] There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

[SUP]19 [/SUP] We love, because He first loved us.

Resting/remaining/abiding in the Lord is not a lazy passive existence. When we know that God has already provided everything we need and we access His wisdom, provision, strength by faith - we'll be governed by the Holy Spirit in a highly strategic and active life.
All well said, I bolded the part that got me.

He promised to Finish the work He started in us. I fully believe that God is intentional and deliberate in that. Highly strategic as you will.

I'm responding to someone who asked me WHY we should do works.

Why don't YOU answer her??
Instead of attacking me post after post.
i am not attacking you, I am stating facts, you always post about people who deny works are required, so how else should I respond

and why would I respond to here, she is not saying people deny god expects works, not her

Yes I asked you that many posts ago...but this thread has moved so quickly I even forgot....what is salvation?

Honestly a faulty understanding of salvation leads in a faulty understanding of everything for anyone.

You said something funny.

You said that you hear this preaching as if it were something new.

What YOU believe is something new.

I have Assurance and I believe You can have Assurance.
It has nothing to do with that.

I guess our conversation will stop here.
It was nice to discuss in a very civil manner.

That's all we could ask.
we'll disagree but still have God's love in us for each other.

I jsut think it should be clear that we are to live for God and to obey our Master.
It doesn't seem to be a choice to me.
This DOES NOT mean we won't sin, like I hear on these threads.

Time to say good night.

As are all that have trusted into Jesus by faith while realizing he will finish the work that he started and complete it....He will never leave us or forsake us and NOTHING can separate us from the LOVE of Christ!

How can you have assurance if you if you could lose salvation, you have no idea what your next 20 years will be like, if you live that long, your assurance is based on what you do to maintain salvation, not what God did to give you salvation.

sorry, but you can have your form of assurance. No thanks. I was saved because I stopped trusting myself and needed god, I am not going to return to have to trust myself

There is some sort of disconnect there when they read the scripture.

There seems to be a little of it in almost every denomination. Some think that water baptism is the way of salvation. Some think going to church on saturday is the way of salvation. Some think following the 10 commandments is the way of salvation.

You can't really have yourself a good religion if you can't tell people they have to do stuff. And if they don't - eternal damnation...

Just look at all the warnings in scripture... lol

2 Timothy 1:7-10
[FONT=&quot]7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:[/FONT]

2Pe 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the full knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.

2Pe 1:4
Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires.

~
1Jn 2:16 For every thing that is in the world, is the lust of the body, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of the world. These which are not of the Father, but they are from the world itself.

gal 5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will never fulfill the desires of the flesh.

So we have been given all that we need within to live godly. In our spirit. We have a new heart with the commandments written within...Holy Spirit and Holy Word within. Is that right?

We live in the Spirit...Walk in the Spirit. Led by the Spirit..empowered by Holy Spirit.

The life of the Spiritual man or woman.

What more can anyone say to this?

It's like a bait and switch,

Sunday #1 "God Loves you so much He died for the forgiveness of your sins, believe on Him and you will have eternal life, rest in His peace and Mercy, and grace, His yolk is easy and His burden is light, He now sees you washed clean, and blemish free as a result of all that He accomplished, the sacrifice that He made on your behalf"

Sunday#2 "....buuuuut now its time to get to work, lets get ALL that sin out of your life and we GOT some REAL work ahead of us. If you don't turn around real quick He will judge and condemn you and off to the lake of fire you go. He really doesn't love you as much as I said last week. But He still loves you for now, but grace is not forever you know, you have some serious issues to work out. COME BACK to the Cross, He really isn't quite finished you know. I trust the Holy Spirit, but he's real busy with you, so I'll "help" Him out and give you some stuff to do so we can get through this together"

Yes, a disconnect. I think it is a lack of understanding of context. Some folks think that every word the Lord has ever spoken was meant for them. Kind of arrogant really.
