Why do people go to hell because they don't believe Jesus is who he claimed to be or the resurrection? If they reject the work of the cross that is like saying what Jesus did on the cross does not matter to them or they don't care enough to look into it or they don't care enough to have an open mind about it. Yet what if someone says they love Jesus but they don't believe he is God or they don't believe he rose again. How is this rejecting Jesus?

People "go to hell" because that is the punishment for sin.

I put "go to hell" in quotes because we could have an entire thread discussing what that actually means... let's not do so in this thread. :)

It is only by God's grace and mercy that we aren't all headed there. Jesus, God incarnate, is the only One Who could make an offering which would satisfy the justice of God and make our redemption possible.

Certainly there are believers who died without understanding the fullness of Who Jesus is and why His sacrifice was sufficient; we don't become Christians and immediately receive a download of understanding. We do, however, receive the Holy Spirit, Who brings us into fullness of understanding over time.

Many of us have incomplete and even incorrect ideas about Jesus; that doesn't necessarily make us un-Christian. However, actively rejecting key truths about Him puts us in jeopardy. We do well to continually seek to learn, understand, and live out our lives as an expression/reflection of Him.

I think rather then being concerned as much as to what others believe or not isn't as effective or important as living out our faith in ways that show forth His character of love for fallen man, and His desire to redeem them.
The fact is we all have the God given power to choose what we believe, however what we do believe has power over us.

I don't believe people are consigned to hell. I believe those who love this world more than they love God are given this world in it's natural state apart from God.

God’s word tells us the world is made of things unseen, which describes the atom and it’s subatomic components. The interesting thing about the atom is that it’s nucleus is composed of like-charged particles, and orbiting that are another set of like-charged particles. The laws of science dictate that like charged particles repel each other, indicating the whole dang thing should just naturally come apart.

But God says that all things are held together by Him ( Hebrews 11:3; Col. 1:16).

The Lord spoke this creation into existence, putting it together by His very Word (note the similarity of word/world). We are told that at the end of its existence the elements will melt with fervent heat (2 Peter 3:7, 10, 12). Consider what happens when an atom is split - it creates intense heat and fire as the element is ripped out of existence.

The lake of fire (which most equate to as being hell) only appears after this creation is de-created. Could it be possible that when God speaks it out of existence, the resulting nuclear meltdown of all the created matter that now exists as our earth and heavens will create the lake of fire? Would it seem fitting that those who love this world more than Him, would be given it in its natural state apart from Him?

Hi Cherie,

The thing is is that a person must be born again to enter the kingdom of God. Our relationship with the Lord is not merely a mental exercise or acceptance of truth. We are entering into a relationship with God our Creator with our whole heart. We love Him with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength.

Jesus told His apostles to go into all the world and do what? Make disciples. A disciple is one who becomes a learner, a student, a follower. Jesus didn't say to make Christians, He said make disciples. Discipleship is denying self, taking up our cross and following Jesus.

The apostles were to teach all of the commands of Jesus. And that's what they did. The NT scriptures teach us what it means to obey all that Jesus commands.

So if the scriptures teach that Jesus has been resurrected, we as followers, as disciples believe the truth. If there is no resurrection for Jesus there is no resurrection for us either. The beauty of the gospel is that we will have eternal life and live forever with our Lord. What would even be the purpose of faith if it doesn't include the resurrection. The belief in Jesus as our Lord and Savior encompasses His death, burial and resurrection.

And Jesus said that He and the Father are one. A person who is a disciple will come to know the truth as they grow in the Lord. The Holy Spirit leads and guides us into truth and those who are truly born again will come to know God in His fulness.

They don't go to hell because of that. They go to hell because they have sinned and deserve it. We all deserve it!

Being saved is not about loving G-d….. Surprising but true.
I knew I was a sinner in need of a Savior. What keeps people from being saved is simple pride. There is a G-d we answer to. Because of Salvation, I love G-d. All sin is committed from loving one’s self above G-d, even as a “Christian”.
Ask those that say they “love” Y-shua if they are a sinner in need of a Savior. Then explain the Gospel. Y-shua did not come into the world to condemn it, it was already condemned; but to save it. We all have fallen short of the Glory of G-d, Y-shua- Perfection. The Messiah. He is G-d’s standard the one and only to perfectly keep Torah in every way.

If I did not truly believe I will answer to G-d someday what would I care!?! As a side note this is the great problem with evolution. If I evolved the is no Creator to answer to. If you tell my son to do something he will say to you, you are not my mom, even though he may “love” you. But when I tell my son something he obeys. Why? He knows I “created” him. It is the same with G-d. There is no doubt in my mind what so ever I was created by the Creator and one day I will answer to Him. That fear got me saved, loving Him keeps my striving to be obedient.

Jesus gave us two great commandments to follow. First, we are to love God with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and the second is to love out neighbors as ourselves. I don't believe anyone will go to hell if they are doing these two things.

What is your intended purpose when you write God with a symbol to replace a letter. I'm genuinely curious.

Maybe.. It is kinda complicated but makes some sense.

Hi Limey,

It's a way that Jews and Messianic Jews give respect to the name of God. They either use G-d or they will say HaShem which means the name.

There's an OT scripture in Deuteronomy that says something around erasing the name of the foreign God's from among them, but that they are not to erase or blot out God's name. So they take that to mean that wherever God's name is written, it is not to be written where someone can erase it, deface it or blot it out. So G-d protects this from happening.
