Ive finished chronicles and begin Erza tonight.
Still continueing to read the OT. It has been alot of work for me as I have to reread alot.
There is alot of repetition, but this is good as I hope that I will retain what is important.
I am amazed at how much of the OT is repeated in the Nt, also how it brings the two into one teaching by giving true understanding to much of what we learn in the Nt.
I would recomend to those that have not read the OT to give the effort when ready, it does open your eyes to alot, it more importantly conferms much of what you learn in the Nt.

What has held my interest the most is the understanding of the true weakness of man and the comparison to us today when it comes to sin and false gods.
Now many do not have fake gods in the sence of the OT, but we do have many things that we put in place of God Our Father. From our pride to worldly desires. If anything it has made me consider how we all still look to other things, rather than Our Lord God.
Now Im not tring to judge or condemn here, I just wanted to share how we easly can do this without realising it, but also so that we can ask ourselves what do we let replace God.
This does not mean we cannot enjoy God's gifts, he wants us to enjoy all that he created for us, there are alot of refrences to this in the OT as well. I now see that it is good to do this.
But it is a good work as well to examine ourselves and ask what do we set God aside for?
So thankyou for reading this.
I do have a few quick questions as I would like to better understand what and why these were worshipped so often, so those in the know can you inform me?
The poles that were worshipped , what to and why?
The high places? same what and why?
And baal, what and who is this?
Thankyou so much for your help.
On-word and for-word in the word I continue. ;)
What a true wonder it is to know Our Lord God better!
Thankyou and God bless, pickles

Hi Pickles; I can answer some of those, questions but I am uncertain what you mean by poles?
Why the sacrifices were held so often is for a couple of reasons;1: There was the Office of the Preist that was to be held by Isreal through the Levites,until the arrival of Christ. Judah the King line would consult with the Levites for approval on actions they were planning, before moving forward;
you will notice that every battle they fought, that they did not consult THE FATHER,they Lost!
2: The other reason is rather simplistic but caring; put yourself back in the time and of the procededures we use today to handle meat;OUR FATHER was also in a sense teaching them how to handle meat safely.
Once Christ arrived almost all of the Ordaninces were nailed to the cross with him,NOT the statutes or commandments though; This was so instead of going through all that cumbersome work to contact THE FATHER ; Anyone acknowledging CHRIST could now contact THE FATHER themselves directley through CHRIST!!! For this Preisthood is established Forever after the Order of Melchezidek.
Baal is false worship or doing things for OUR FATHER with alterior motives(usually gain for one's self)Not pure intentions.
This is carried on today in many religoins in that they still perform many of the Ordinances that were nailed to the cross.
Also the Office of the Preist was Closed after the arrival of CHRIST! That is why you won't find referance to a Preisthood in the NT unless it is refering to the OT.
The High places are where Isreal made attonmemt after realizing they majorally messed up again; Not consulting THE FATHER FIRST!!!
Hope this helps a little...Love & Peace Forever in CHRIST!

Hello Pickles,

Here are some quick answers to your questions;
Baal

Note: I took this definition from the official Baal web-site. I did not pursue it any further and I do not testify as to it’s accuracy.

Baal was worshipped as far back as three and a half millennia ago among ancient Semitic tribes, such as the descendants of Shem (believed by some scholars to be the oldest son of Biblical Noah) and as late as the Punic wars of the third century BCE. The word Baal means "master" or "owner" which, in ancient religions, denoted sun, lord or god. Baal was a common name for several small Syrian and Persian deities, but principally known as a Canaanite fertility deity.

Asherah Poles
An Asherah pole is a sacred tree or pole that stood near Canaanite religious locations to honor the Ugaritic mother-goddess Asherah, consort of El. The relation of the literary references to an asherah and archaeological finds of Judaean pillar-figurines has engendered a literature of debate.

“High places”
A “high place” was any place that was designated as a place of worship of any of several minor god’s. They were usually on mountains or hills or were elevated temples and poles.

In Micah 1:5 God declares that Jerusalem itself has become a “high place”. 5For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?” Micah 1:5 KJV

You touched on the concept of "high places" in your post' Anything that we place between us and God can become a "high place" or idol

Good post and some very good observations.

In Christ,
John

Thankyou all so much. I always forget to read the footnotes, and by the time I remember to, I forget where it was. smiles
Ive tried writing myself notes in a notebook but then I can never find where I wrote it. smies agian.
Such is my weakness, but when I do absorb what I read it is seen and is as real as it has just happened.
such is the gift given to me.
So all is good in God Our Father.
I figure God wants me to see only His knowladge when He wants me to.smiles
I am so greatful for your help, it adds flavor to what is read.
Thankyou and God bless, pickles
