The way I look at it, God is my ultimate employer as I do the work that He has prepared for me beforehand.

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

I choose this verse without knowing that you chose the same verse. It is very appropriate for those who labor for the Lord.

For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.

Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.Proverbs 22:29 ESV

This is brilliant! I think I've experienced this in some form once before a couple years ago.

I'd really like to flesh some of these scriptures out and understand them more!

Jud 1:16 having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

Sucking up to the boss.

This scripture got me very far in the work industry, which is the greatest tool I ever used, and climbed the corporate ladder so fast that is was unbelievable, where many people got fired as I took their place, and kept climbing, and climbing, kept backstabbing, squealing, snitching, lying, blackmailing, cutthroating, whatever it took to climb the ladder of success to rake in all the money, and prestige, and honor, that I could achieve on my short time on earth, until I got so high in the company that I was second only to the boss, kissing butt of everyone that had an advantage for me,no shame,no guilt, all but competition pleasure, and excitement.

Then I got in to embezzling, swindling, stealing, and never got caught.

Made so much money, and respect,I wrote a book entitled,The ladder of Success in America-a dog eat dog story. The cover had a picture of a ladder, but instead of the rungs of the ladder being metal,or wood, they were people, and a man climbing on top of them to get to the top, wearing baseball cleats, and carrying a baseball bat.

I got so carried away I plotted to overthrow the owner and take charge of the company, setting him up with shady illegal deals so he would get busted, planting drugs in his office, and hiring prostitutes to seduce him so his marriage would fall apart, trying to drive him mad,or by any means to take the throne of the company.

But then it all came to a halt,as I realized the scripture was not advocating that it is good to suck up to the boss for advantage, but it was bad to suck up to the boss, for the traits that go along with it.

Then I gave it up,gave all my money away, and here I am on Christian Chat.

The end,lol.

Wow, that is an incredible story. If one were to base their work on that one verse only without reading the rest they would certainly only do what you did.
The difference between 'sucking up to your boss' and honouring your boss, workplace and showing Christ through you deeds is the motives and inclinations of your heart.
Sucking up has self focused motives, honouring has the interest of others at hand.. At least I believe.
Success and integrity, don't necessarily go hand in hand but it certainly should any anyone's mind, and with many people out there, it does. It's the selfish lot that Jude speaks of that can tarnish it.

Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust.
1 Peter 2:18 ESV

Now this one.. I tend to transpose these verses to employer-employee. This for me at times is a difficult one. When I have one way or idea of doing something and my boss or bosses boss wants it done another way that I don't necessarily agree with. I have to choose to humble myself and do as they have asked rather than grumble and complain thinking I know better.
If my boss was wrong, he wears the consequence in the end but most of the time they are right because they at times, know things or see things that I don't.
I've had to apologise this many times.

We have an operations manager here that isn't very popular. I have to watch myself that I don't get involved in the slander and gossip that goes around about her and her ways. She can be a hard woman at times, but I still have to submit myself to her leadership at times so the business can go forward with what will be done whether I agree or not.

Ephesians 6:5, 6
Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ; not by way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

I realize this is written for slaves specifically, but I always took this scripture to also mean employees be obedient to your employers. So as I worked as unto the Lord, I didn't cheat the company by goofing off or using their time for personal business.

I didn't work only in the bosses presence, but worked just as hard when he wasn't there. I knew that if I worked as unto the Lord in everything, that my boss would be happy with my work.

That is excellent, thanks for sharing. You have done very well translating that to our own lives as employer - employees

A person who does diligent work will be looked up to by others

29Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings;
he shall not stand before mean men.

5He that gathereth in summer is a wise son:
but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

26As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes,
so is the sluggard to them that send him.

His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

The true character of a person is shown by how that person conducts themselves when no one is there to see them.

What they do not teach in business school...the workman is due his hire and do not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain.

If you have responsibility for people who work for you then you are responsible to God to pay them fairly and care for their Spiritual welfare.

Yes, that's right, I worked for a family member years ago in their factory and his workers complained that they hadn't been paid in weeks and it was a common thing. I wasn't happy but at the time I didn't think scripturally nor had the boldness to address the issue, now I look back I would've considering they consider themselves Catholics and I have copped a lot of flack from them about myself being born again (thanks to God)

Yesterday, I had to stand up in front of two shifts regarding rumours that were spreading around about what our unpopular operations manager had said which were completely untrue.
I basically stood up for her, addressed the truth and laid to the rest the lie. It was the first time I had to do such a thing but standing up for someone who is not liked in the eyes of the workers - I don't care about what someay think of me, what I cared about what was right. It is not right she had lies about what she hadn't said about her.
I was shaking like a leaf but I thank God He gave me the strength, boldness and words to say. He really did.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house,
and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows
ofheaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Good Thread, Breno,

Jesus' heart is so big - so forgiving - so understanding, this is what He is teaching us
about Himself so that we may conduct ourselves as He would - but, we must always remember
the 'lines', His 'lines', and grow to discern when to apply them for the good of all concerned,
mainly, first of all Jesus Himself...hub and I have learned the hard way many times, that standing
up for righteousness in the world often means being rejected by them...it just goes with the territory...
every time we did this, and it was a process of Christ teaching us how to use and grow in the Faith
that He has given to us, we often had to make some 3'60's in our life-styles, but it was always for the
good at the end...when our Father tells us to 'step-out-away', we better do it or we will reap what our lack
of Faith-action produces...

Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.
Proverbs 24:27 ESV

I'm in a funny place at the moment. Both my wife and I are desiring to shatter the mold by learning to create a passive income. In another words, making money work for you, not perpetually working for money or in other words, not perpetually trading time for money.

I have been desiring to own our own home for a while but at the same time I want to learn to invest. My interests seem divided and I was never taught money smarts. We don't live Lavish, we have only what we need, and I was thinking what should be done first, then this scripture came to mind.

Life wise, we have done it backwards without realising, having a family before setting ourselves up like this scripture says but God knows what's going on.

6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

(2 Thessalonians 3:6-12).
