He suffer one of the worst beatings in the history of the world. He had too carry his capital punishment instrument to the place of execution ( incidentally we wear it as Jewelery.) naked and alone he is then nailed to the cross.
after a while he said "IT IS FINISHED" what was finished. why did he subject himself to such a horrible death
Lastly why did he tell the pharisees that thier father was of this world
I already know so i will stand back unless invited in

He did it so we can be free.

looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 ESV

We can all go, He did THAT for me?? What a wonderful God!

I will say that when Jesus said it is finished.....every Roman and Greek Speaking person from the first century understood clearly what he meant....that being PAID in FULL.....now this will be rejected, argued over and explained away......I am nothing going to argue it....He paid for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD...end of story.....

The bible is clear....The Holy Spirit convicts of SIN because THEY BELIEVE NOT ON ME......

HE is the propitiation for our SINS<---the word means PAYMENT and when we acknowledge him by faith HIS blood is applied unto us ALONG with the IMPUTED righteousness of CHRIST as described by DAVID in PAUL'S writings in ROMANS 4......

God is clear...

WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD I WILL PASS OVER YOU............!!

Anyone who thinks that Jesus didn't pay the price for our sins in FULL and thinks they can add even a penny to pay their own price is listening to the devil.

No, He didn't.

After they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him. They pressed into service a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to bear His cross.
(Mark 15:20-21)

He couldn't.
Not because He was unable - He is God enfleshed, and He always is.
But because carrying ones cross is a public confession of guilt. It was in the Roman occupied territories, a profession that you deserved it, to be executed horribly in this way by Rome. This is why they forced people to carry the burden of the method of their death in a procession outside the city, symbolically, in full view of everyone.

Yet Jesus knew no sin. God cannot lie: therefore He could not carry the cross. Either He did something astonishingly & embarassingly miraculous when they ordered Him to pick it up, or they dare not. Don't believe what you see on TV;
have a high view of Christ.

Someone else, a man named Simon, carried the thing that represented the guilt of sin to the place where the perfect Lamb of God was sacrificed on it, just as we must pick up our own crosses, confessing our own iniquity before Him, and follow to where He bears the burden.

Exactly why neither you or I are Christ........I would die for my son, the ones I love, some family, a few Jewish people and some friends and maybe even some brothers and sisters in Christ......but for the rest of the world......not now, not tomorrow, not ever......!

He did it due to His great love for us, and a desire to be united forever after with us.

No greater love than this that you give your life for a friend.

One of the best teachings I've heard is to take out the words " us" and "we" and replace with " your name " or "me".

When you make it personal then you really have to wonder. At least I do. If we (I) could only fathom the cost, Fully understand the victory, and what it fully means to be made free and right before the Lord. To be called a son or daughter of the most high. I think about this every day. Wow talk about a gift that thank you can't even begin to touch the appreciation.

"It is finished" meant what He came to do- which was the Will of His Father- which was to live the old law perfectly, make grace available to all, and purchase His church.

Why did He do it? Because He loved God enough to obey Him, for one. "Will I not drink the cup My Father has given Me?" And to lead us in the way we should go-to obey God no matter what. "For we do not have a Savior Who is unable to sympathize with us- He went through everything we go through." How can God expect us to do something even He can't do? We need to love Him more than our own lives.

"Greater love has no one than this; that he lay down his life for his friends." God IS love, no one can love more than He can.

I never want to be tested in that way. But it is my hope that if I ever am, that I will pass the test. I have already been close to death many times, been beaten, attempted to be murdered by being smothered with a pillow, or shot at, went without food, water, shelter, or freedom, been kidnapped, raped, and isolated for years.

I have known pain of every kind- which gives me confidence that I could pass that test, but my confidence is not complete seeing as I have not experienced big chunks of flesh being ripped from my body. It is my hope that if tested that the Holy Spirit will help me pass it.

Jesus and John called them sons of the devil, Paul teaches Satan is god of this world. i would say that has a lot to do with it.

i'm at work, but I do love the feed back. Yes Yes and amen he paid the price in full, not partially not up till today but from everlasting to everlasting
incidently he took our sin and removed them as far as the east is from the west, that a considerable distance
Pastor once said a person can walk away from God. little tidbit Polaris is the north star, Bible says God is in the north. But what about the south,
the southern cross. just a teaser

All I can say is I would never have done any of it.
I was preaching at a revival and my message was about the cross....Being led by the Spirit, I asked everyone to close their eyes and picture Jesus on the cross....I went through the same details and even greater than the OP of this thread did....I asked them the same thing the OP of this thread...why did he do it....I told them I did not want an answer, just answer it in your heart.....

about 10 minutes went by and I let the Spirit speak to people...when released to do so, I said, keep your eyes closed and then asked this question: What would have happened had Jesus decided to come down off the cross...then the message started.....

He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
