You have to reach the age of 13 before you start to be accountable; Children and the Hadicapped are protected through Innocency>

Most Christians believe in what's called an "age of accountability," which is basically the age when a child has the cognitive faculty to understand his sins and need for a savior.

The same goes for persons who are mentally challenged. If their cognitive faculties are such that they cannot recognize their sinfulness and need for a savior, they are supposedly held innocent by God.

If this is true, children and those who are mentally challenged would simply go to heaven when they die.

(Most Christians do not set any definite age limit to this since everyone develops differently. But as you can see, at least one person thinks it's 13. ;))

There is no doubt that children will be accepted into the kingdom of God. Christ himself said that the kingdom BELONGS to them. As for an age of accountability, I think we all know when we get to that time in our life where it is a conscious choice whether to follow God or not...
