Why do so many church services serve sugar cookies and tea and coffee after service.

Its suggested that the energy from the sugar rush helps keep the endorphins kicking, emulating a spiritual high that many believers assume is the Holy Spirit.

Though that may be true, many churches do a 'social' after services - coffee, tea, various breakfast items - it's done for general fellowship (though, I gotta admit, I like your theory :) )

When I was a child, about 3, my sister and I were sent off to Bible school in the summer. I loved to go because I loved (no yuchs please) the wonderful array of home made cookies, molasses, sugar, oatmeal, and more it is certain, and I dunked them in Kool-Aid that was given the Bible class children. (The dunking is wehre I expected a yuchhh or two.)

Anyway, I never had a spiritual rush, but Isure enjoyed them cookies and that Kool-Aid.

I did receive the best doctrine of faith a child could have from one of our hymns. My doctrine of belief was formulated then, and still is, and that doctrine is very true and very simple. Jesus loves me...

Since that lesson, through thick and thin, I have always relied on that, and now it is 70 years later......praise Jesus Christ, amen.

If what anyone thinks is a spiritual high from a sugar cookie, then I would have to think that they have never really had a Holy Spirit spiritual high.

Sugar can only go so far.

Our church has this every weekend after our services. It's a fantastic way to get together for bible study and get to know your fellow parishioners, it's been so successful and I've loved going.

Conspiracy theory! I doubt very much that has anything to do with it. Churches serve snacks for their social time, and who wants to go the trouble of cooking a meal?

Maybe fellowship.......kind of like pot luck dinners once a month after services.....a way to fellowship? It is not like God's people spend a whole lot of time together in this hustle and bustle world.......
